Outage performance of dual‐hop relaying systems over extended generalized‐K fading channels

The outage performance of the amplify‐and‐forward relaying strategies over mutually uncorrelated extended generalized‐K fading channels is addressed in this paper. The attention is dedicated to the analyses of the noise‐limited and also interference‐limited environment. The new analytical expression for outage probability of observed relaying system in the presence of thermal noise is derived using the method for approximating equivalent signal‐to‐noise ratio. In addition, the outage performance is studied for the dual‐hop system when only the single dominant co‐channel interference is inherent at the relay and destination node. An approximation of filtered signal envelope with phase noise incoherent optical systems

We examine the approximation of the probability density of a filtered signal envelope in the presence of phase noise. The probability density function (pdf) is of practical interest, especially for the performance evaluation of coherent optical systems employing envelope detection. We consider a few possibilities for approximate pdf construction, and develop simple, yet very accurate, expressions to describe the envelope of a filtered signal influenced by phase noise. To check the accuracy, we use the approximation for performance evaluation of a coherent optical frequency-shift keying (FSK) receiver, and compare the results with those obtained from existing methods     

Mn site substitution of La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 with closed shell ions: Effect on magnetic transition temperature

Mn site is substituted with closed shell ions (Al, Ga, Ti, Zr and a certain combination of Zr and Al) and also with Fe and Ru ions carrying the magnetic moment (S=5/2 and 2 respectively) at a fixed concentration of 5 at %. Substitution did not change either the crystal symmetry or the oxygen stoichiometry. All substituents were found to suppress both the metal-insulator and ferromagnetic transition temperatures (T _p(ρ) and T _C, respectively) to varied extents. Two main contributions identified for the suppression are the lattice disorder arising due to difference in the ionic radii between the substituent (r _M) and the Mn³⁺ ion (r _Mn ³⁺) and in the case of the substituents carrying a magnetic moment, the type of magnetic coupling between the substituent and that of the neighboring Mn ion.     

Performance of PSK signal transmitted over satellite channel

The authors determine the bit error rate of a digital satellite system with phase modulation when at the input of the satellite only Gaussian noise is added, while at the input of the earth station they assume both Gaussian noise and an interference approximated by the sum of n sinusoidal signals     

Deoxyribozyme-based ligase logic gates and their initial circuits

A complete set (YES, NOT, AND, and ANDNOT) of molecular scale logic gates based on ligase deoxyribozymes was constructed. The activity of these gates was visualized through the formation of cascades with downstream phosphodieseterase YES gates, which performed fluorogenic cleavage.     

The politics of conservative elites and the 'liberal media' argument

Recent evidence suggests that conservative elites' claims of a liberal media are having an impact upon public perceptions of news coverage. With this in mind, we examined two related questions in the context of the 1988, 1992, and 1996 presidential elections. First, what factors may be prompting conservative elites to make allegations of liberal media bias? Second, what factors may influence when news media report these criticisms during presidential campaigns? Findings suggest that these criticisms of news media are at least partly strategic and reflect a dynamic relationship between political elites and journalists during a presidential campaign.     

Outage analysis of selection diversity over Rayleigh fading channels with multiple co-channel interferers

In this paper an approach to the performance analysis of signal-to-interference (SIR) based selection combining (SC) operating over the Rayleigh fading channels experiencing an arbitrary number of multiple, Rayleigh co-channel interferers is presented. We have presented a general analysis of multibranch SC where each branch experiences an arbitrary number of multiple equal power co-channel interferers. Useful closed form expressions are derived for the probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) at the output of the combiner. Also an outage analysis is performed in order to show the effects of the number of multiple interferers, diversity order and input SIR unbalance to the system performances.     

Second‐Order Statistics of System with Microdiversity and Macrodiversity Reception in Gamma‐Shadowed Rician Fading Channels

In this letter, a wireless communication system with microdiversity and macrodiversity reception in gamma‐shadowed Rician fading channels is considered. Exact and rapidly converging infinite‐series expressions for the average level crossing rate and average fade duration at the output of the system are provided. Numerical results are presented graphically to illustrate the proposed mathematical analysis and to examine the effects of the system's parameters on the quantities considered.
