Synthesis and Antiradical Activity of 5-Acetyl-2-alkylthio-4-aryl-6-methyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-3-carboxylic Acid Nitriles

The alkylation of 3-cyano-1,4-dihydropyridine-2(3H)-thiones or the condensation of an aromatic aldehyde, cyanothioacetamide, acetylacetone, and methyl iodide in the presence of piperidine has given a series of novel 5-acetyl-2-alkylthio-4-aryl-6-methyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-3-carboxylic acid nitriles. A compound was obtained from 3,5-di(tert-butyl)-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde in the molecule of which were combined the active part of the antioxidant ionol and a 1,4-dihydropyridine ring. It was found that, among the compounds synthesized, the highest antiradical activity occurred in a compound having two hydroxyl groups in the 4-phenyl substituent.     

Reactivity of N-alkyl derivatives of hydroxylamine in decomposition of 4-nitrophenyl diethylphosphonate in water and in cetyltrimethylammonium bromide micelles

Neutral forms of hydroxylamine, N-methylhydroxylamine, and N,N-dimethylhydroxylamine are typical α-nucleophiles in water. In comparison with aryl anions of similar basicity their rate of reaction in the decomposition of 4-nitrophenyl diethylphosphonate is increased by about 10² times. Decomposition of the substrate is accelerated in cetyltrimethylammonium bromide micelles (about 4 to 30 fold). Hydroxylamine and its N-alkyl derivatives are the most effective low basicity nucleophiles. The large-scale vortex structures in plasma-like media and the electric explosion of conductors

Formation of large-scale hydrodynamic convective patterns in plasma-like current-carrying media is considered. This process is shown to be described by the same equations, as Benard rolls, except that a temperature field must be replaced by a magnetic field. A simple low-mode model of spatial pattern formation for a case of cylindrical liquid-metal conductor with current is proposed and investigated. Nonlinear interaction of perturbations of the magnetic field and the velocity field results in an increase of effective conductor resistance even when transport coefficients are constant. In our opinion, it is this instability, that is of first importance at the initial stages of the electric explosion of conductors. In particular, it leads to conductor stratification and electric current interruption. (c) 1996 American Institute of Physics.     

Molecular structure and properties of benzo-12-crown-4 and acetylbenzo-12-crown-4

Molecular structures of compounds formed by benzo-15-crown-5 with calcium salts

X-ray structural and spectroscopic results are given on the compound formed by benzo-15-crown-5 with calcium perchlorate, Ca(ClO₄)₂·C₁₄H₂₀O₅·2H₂O; the combination does not involve any substantial change in the dihedral angles in the macrocycle, as the coordination sphere is constructed as a result of supplementing the positions occupied by the macrocycle oxygen atoms with three other atoms (oxygen atoms from the perchlorate group and two water molecules). The results are compared with published data on the structures of the compounds formed by benzo-15-crown-5 with NaClO₄, Mg(NCS)₂, CuCl₂, Ca(NCS)₂ and Ca(3,5-dinitrobenzoate)₂.Translated from Teoreticheskaya i Éksperimental' naya Khimiya, Vol. 24, No. 2, pp. 242–247, March–April 1988.
