Fused isoquinolines: 3-aryl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]isoquinoline-1,5-dione-2-spiro-4′-(1′-alkyl-1′,4′-dihydropyridine)s

Previously unknown 3-arylamino-1,2-dihydro-1-isoquinolones were obtained by condensation of 2-cyanomethylbenzoic acid with arylamines. Isonicotinoylation of the compounds was shown to proceed at the carbon atom in the 4-position to give 3-arylamino-4-isonicotinoyl-1,2-dihydro-1-isoquinolones which were quaternized with alkylating agents and formed the corresponding pyridinium salts. Deprotonation of the latter induced intramolecular conjugated addition with the pyrrole ring closure and formation of spiro compounds. The structure of the products was confirmed by NMR, IR and UV spectroscopy and by synthesis of the model compound, 3-(4-tolyl)-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]isoquinoline-1,5-dione.     

240-fs pulses with 22-W average power from a mode-locked thin-disk Yb:KY(WO(4))(2) laser

We demonstrate what is to our knowledge the first passively mode-locked thin-disk Yb:KY(WO(4))(2) laser. The laser produces pulses of 240-fs duration with an average power of 22 W at a center wavelength of 1028 nm. At a pulse repetition rate of 25 MHz, the pulse energy is 0.9microJ , and the peak power is as high as 3.3 MW. The beam quality is very close to the diffraction limit, with M(2)=1.1 .     

Q-switched Yb 3+ :YVO 4 laser with Raman self-conversion

We report the efficient continuous-wave (CW) and Q-switched laser operation of a diode-pumped Yb:YVO₄ laser. A CW output power of 1 W with a slope efficiency of 59% with respect to absorbed pump power was demonstrated. Passively Q-switched with a Cr⁴⁺:YAG saturable absorber, a Yb:YVO₄ laser with Raman conversion was demonstrated. Q-switched 18.7- J pulses with a pulse duration of 17 ns and a peak power up to 1 kW were obtained at 1018-nm fundamental wavelength and 3.6- J pulses with a pulse duration of 6 ns and a peak power of about 0.6 kW were obtained at 1119.5-nm first-Stokes wavelength.This revised version was published online in March 2005. Yb3+-doped YVO4 crystal for efficient Kerr-lens mode locking in solid-state lasers

We report the first demonstration, to our knowledge, of soft-aperture Kerr-lens mode locking in a diode-pumped femtosecond Yb3+:YVO4 laser. Near-transform-limited pulses as short as 61 fs are generated around a center wavelength of 1050 nm with an output power of 54 mW and a pulse repetition frequency of 104.5 MHz. This is, to our knowledge, the shortest pulse generated directly from an Yb laser having a crystalline host material. The femtosecond operation has a mode-locking threshold at an absorbed pump power of 190 mW. The nonlinear refractive indexes of the Yb3+:YVO4 crystal have been measured to be 19 x 10(-16) cm2/W and 15 x 10(-16) cm2/W for the sigma and pi polarizations, respectively, at 1080 nm.     

Spectroscopy and continuous-wave diode-pumped laser action of Yb3+:YVO4

The growth, spectroscopic properties, and laser performance of Yb:YVO4 crystal with laser diode pumping are reported. A peak absorption cross section of 7.4 x 10(-20) cm2 at 985 nm, a radiative lifetime of 0.25 ms, and a stimulated-emission cross section of 1.25 x 10(-20) cm2 at 1008 nm for pi polarization were determined for the Yb3+ ions in YVO4. Continuous-wave laser action of Yb:YVO4 at 1020-1027 nm was demonstrated with an output power of 610 mW and a slope efficiency of 49%.     

Rheological properties and flow of filled oligomeric compounds in highly porous cellular materials

The dependences of the dynamic viscosity of a highly filled oligomeric compound based on oligo(dieneurethane-epoxy) oligomer on the shear rate were studied in the temperature range 20–60°C. An experimental installation for studying the flow of highly viscous systems through permeable materials was developed. For the polymeric compound chosen, quantitative dependences of the pressure on the flow rate, temperature, and geometric parameters of the highly porous cellular material were obtained.     

Dirac-kahler equation and calculation of matrix elements for spin-1/2 particles

An explicit tensor method presented for calculating the matrix elements of the interaction of massive spin-1/2 particles does not involve calculation of traces from the products of Dirac matrices.Belorussian State University. Spectral kinetic properties and lasing characteristics of diode-pumped Cr<Superscript>2+</Superscript>:ZnSe single crystals

The temperature and concentration quenching of the luminescence of Cr²⁺ ions in Cr:ZnSe crystals is experimentally investigated and the radiative lifetime of the upper lasing level is determined. The values of the cross sections of absorption from the ground state of Cr²⁺ ions in Cr:ZnSe crystals are refined. It is shown that the absorption from the excited state of Cr²⁺ ions is negligible near 1.5 μm. Lasing in Cr:ZnSe single crystals is implemented with an efficiency of 31% and an output power of 186 mW using laser diode pumping at a wavelength of 1.77 μm.
