The effects of an externally applied magnetic field on the Anderson localization of electromagnetic waves in an alternating layered system of vacuum and semiconducting slabs are studied. Specifically, a waveguide formed from perfectly conducting parallel plates which contain between them an array of vacuum and n-type semiconductor slabs is examined in the presence of an external static magnetic field applied parallel to both the plates and the slab surfaces. The widths of the slabs in the array are random but with a randomness such that the array of slabs is almost periodic, and we study only electromagnetic modes which propagate perpendicular to the slab surfaces. The localization length is obtained by studying the reflection and transmission properties of a finite array of slabs in the limit that it becomes semi-infinite. Two types of system are treated: (i) a reciprocal system which exhibits a localization length that does not depend on the sign of the applied magnetic field, and (ii) a non-reciprocal system which exhibits a localization length that depends on the sign of the applied magnetic field. 相似文献

Doubling the number of tungsten wires from 120 to 240, keeping the mass fixed, increased the radiated X-ray power relative to the electrical power at the insulator stack of the Z accelerator by (35±15)% for 8.75- and 20-mm radii Z-pinch wire arrays. Speckle correlations in the light scattered from a weakly rough one-dimensional random metal surface

Perturbation theory is used to compute the angular-intensity correlation function C(q, k|q(?), k(?)) = ?[I(q|k) - ?I(q|k)?][I(q(?)|k(?)) - ?I(q(?)|k(?))]? for p-polarized light scattered from a weakly rough, one-dimensional random metal surface. I(q|k) is the squared modulus of the scattering matrix for the system, and q , q(?) and k , k(?) are the projections on the mean scattering surface of the wave vectors of the scattered and the incident light, respectively. Contributions to C include (a) short-range memory effect and time-reversed memory effect terms, C((1)) ; (b) an additional short-range term of comparable magnitude C((10)) ; (c) a long-range term C((2)) ; (d) an infinite-range term C((3)) ; and (e) a new term C((1.5)) that along with C((2)) displays peaks associated with the excitation of surface polaritons. A new reverse Monte Carlo method for the determination of the surface profile statistics from differential reflection data for the scattering of electromagnetic radiation from rough surfaces is presented. The method is used to extract the power spectrum of the surface profile from scattering data recently measured by West and O'Donnell [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 12, 390 (1995)]. Excellent agreement with the power spectrum of the surface profile measured by contact profilometry is obtained. 相似文献

A discussion of intrinsic localized modes (ILMs) in photonic crystals is given. Emphasis is placed on ILMs in photonic crystal waveguides formed from Kerr nonlinear materials and photonic crystal circuits formed by joining nonlinear photonic crystal waveguides into networks. Work on stationary and propagating ILMs in nonlinear waveguides and waveguide junctions is reviewed. In addition, some discussion is given on the optical bistability of the barrier and junction geometries and on recent results on two-dimensional ILMs in Kerr nonlinear photonic crystals. 相似文献

The dynamics of a randomly diluted Heisenberg ferromagnet on a two-dimensional square lattice is calculated using a CPA procedure introduced by Theumann and Tahir-Kheli. The density of states and frequency-wave-vector-dependent response functions at various symmetry points of the Brillouin zone are presented for several magnetic concentrations. Our results for the density of states are compared with those obtained from computer-experiment calculations of Huber and are found to be in good agreement with them. The spin-wave stiffness coefficient is calculated, and comparison is made with results on two-dimensional resistor networks given by Watson et al. 相似文献

A double Z pinch driving a cylindrical secondary hohlraum from each end has been developed which can indirectly drive intertial confinement fusion capsule implosions with time-averaged radiation fields uniform to 2%-4%. 2D time-dependent view factor and 2D radiation hydrodynamic simulations using the measured primary hohlraum temperatures show that capsule convergence ratios of at least 10 with average distortions from sphericity of /r200 MJ. 相似文献
