The edge of a complete contact between elastically similar bodies may often be modelled as a semi-infinite monolithic wedge, because, under a wide range of conditions, the interface is often fully closed and stuck or has small regions of lift and slip at the contact edge. When the local edge separates from the half-plane and slip is inevitable a correction to the Williams solution is required, and this is deduced for the case where the contact-defining body possesses a 90° corner. A simple application of the solution to the example problem of a clamped strip subject to tension is calibrated and the results found used to infer the slip and separation lengths.  相似文献

We report our investigation of the dependence of the profile extracted from ARXPS data on the value of the regularization parameter α. We argue that a choice based upon the L-curve criterion, which does not require knowledge of the variances in the data, is less satisfactory than an approach based on choosing α such that χ2/N = 1.  相似文献

Polystyrene films were exposed to nitrogen plasmas for periods up to 8 min. Angle‐resolved X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements revealed the presence of oxygen and nitrogen in the surface due to the plasma treatment. The depth profiles of these adatoms were determined by fitting a regularized multipoint linear segment model to the data. A regularization parameter chosen such that the chi‐square statistic of the fit to the data was equal to the number of independent data points gave a more intuitive result than a parameter chosen according to the L‐curve criterion. Although the shape of the nitrogen depth profile was observed to vary as a function of the plasma duration, the oxygen depth profiles were nearly identical. This paper provides solutions for the stress and displacement fields induced in a half-space by an edge dislocation of constant magnitude, where the dislocation line is a circular ring lying in a plane parallel with the free surface. Two types of edge dislocations are considered; the prismatic form with a displacement discontinuity vector normal to the surface and cases with radial dislocation vectors. The latter are not true Volterra dislocations and produce different results for different path cuts these effects are investigated in some detail. The primary application of these results is for analysis of axisymmetric problems – the radial dislocations would be impossible in finite material.  相似文献

Resolution, sensitivity and calibration data are presented for a novel high energy XPS source, monochromated Ag Lα radiation (hv = 2984.3 eV). Adequate resolution is attainable for good signal/noise spectra, whilst values for experimental sensitivity factors agree well with theoretical cross section values calculated by Nefedov. This allows an evaluation of ESCA 3 Mk. II transmission function up to 3000 eV, which appears to obey an approximate E?12 dependence. Monochromated Ag Lα (linewidth 1.3 eV) overcomes the problem of broad natural linewidths for high energy sources, such that chemical state information can be gained. Various new core level and Auger peaks are developed, a notable feature being the 1s core level and KLL Auger transition capability from Al through to Cl. Improved sensitivity is experienced for elements whose major peaks occur in the 1500–3000 eV BE range, whilst there is no serious reduction of sensitivity in the conventional XPS energy range.  相似文献
