Design and investigation of UV image detectors

The results of investigation of optical image detectors designed for the largest problem, near-VUV, range of the spectrum are presented. The possibility of using a dual-stage image detection system to appreciably lower the sensitivity threshold and make computer data processing feasible is considered. The integration of a UV module into a wideband image detector is studied.     

Integral Method o Reciprocity in the Spectroscopy of Laser Crystals with Impurity Centers

A new method of determining the stimulated emission cross-section spectra from the absorption cross-section spectra, which we call the integral method of reciprocity, is suggested it does not require knowledge of the structure of the impurity-center electron levels. Based on this method, formulas for calculating the radiation lifetime of impurity centers in crystals have been derived. The effectiveness of the integral method of reciprocity was demonstrated in determining the stimulated emission cross sections and radiation lifetime of an ytterbium ion in the laser crystals Yb³⁺:KYW and Yb³⁺:KGW.

High-performance composite cathodes for Alkaline electrolysis of water

A procedure for preparing and modifying composite electrode materials, allowing preparation of high-performance Ni-based catalysts for water electrolyzers with alkaline electrolyte, is reported. Electrodes for cathodic process, fabricated using this procedure, allow the power consumption for hydrogen production in alkaline water electrolyzers to be considerably reduced relative to known analogs used in Russia and other countries.

Secondary fibrous materials from cardboard and paper production and consumption waste

Some information characterizing wastepaper, including utilization rates, technical data of different fiber grades, and waste paper processing technologies, is presented in the article. Wastepaper obtained from different sources such as cardboard and paper production, production of various goods (e.g. printing companies), and cardboard and paper consumption (e.g. household waste) is also described.     

The optical module of Baikal-GVD

In April 2015, the first cluster of Baikal-GVD was deployed in Lake Baikal and put into operation. It comprises eight strings. Each string consists of 24 optical modules. An optical module is a detection element of Baikal-GVD; it includes a Hamamatsu R7081-100 photomultiplier tube with a high quantum sensitivity. We describe the design of the optical module, the front-end electronics, and the laboratory characterization and calibration.
