Near infrared (NIR) reflectance spectroscopy was used to develop a non-destructive and rapid qualitative method for the analysis of plastic films used by the pharmaceutical industry for blistering. Three types of films were investigated: 250 microm PVC [poly(vinyl chloride)] films, 250 microm PVC films coated with 40 g m(-2) of PVDC [poly(vinylidene dichloride)] and 250 microm PVC films coated with 5 g m(-2) of TE (Thermoelast) and 90 g m(-2) of PVDC. Three analyses were carried out using different pre-treatment options and a PLS (partial least squares) algorithm. Each analysis was aimed at identifying one type of film and rejecting all types of false sample (different thickness, colour or layer). True and false samples from four plastics manufacturers were included in the calibration sets in order to obtain robust methods that were suitable regardless of the supplier. Specificity was demonstrated by testing validation sets against the methods. The tests showed 0% of type I (false negative identification) and 1% of type II errors (false positive identification) for the PVC method, 13 and 3%, respectively, for the PVC-PVDC method and no error for the PVC-TE-PVDC method. Type II errors, mostly due to the slight sensitivity of the methods to film thickness, are easily corrected by simple thickness measurements. This study demonstrates that NIR spectroscopy is an excellent tool for the identification of PVC-based films. The three methods can be used by the pharmaceutical industry or plastics manufacturers for the quality control of films used in blister packaging.  相似文献

Cationic aluminium(chloro) hydroxide complexes with two to four aluminium atoms were studied using quantum chemical methods. Complexes were studied in both gas and liquid phase. The liquid environment was modeled by using a conductor-like screening model (COSMO). COSMO calculations were carried out as a single point calculation at the optimized gas phase structures. Water (epsilon = 78.54) was used as the solvent. The minimum energy structures obtained from the gas phase studies were mostly compact cyclic structures. Aluminium preferred to be five-coordinated in oxygen rich clusters. Core oxygen preferred three-fold coordination but in the largest clusters the four-coordinated oxygen was observed. Water reacted dissociatively with hydrogen poor clusters. The COSMO calculations showed that the optimal structures of cationic aluminium(chloro) hydroxides tend to be more open in the liquid than in the gas phase.  相似文献

The Monsanto acetic acid process is one of the most effective ways to produce acetic acid industrially. This process has been studied experimentally but theoretical investigations are so far sparse. In the current work the active catalytic species [Rh(CO)2I2] (1) and its isomerisation has been studied theoretically using the hybrid B3LYP exchange and correlation functional. Similar calculations has been performed for the iridium complex [Ir(CO)2I2] (2) that also is catalytically active in the methanol carbonylation. Experimental work has confirmed the existence of the cis forms of the active catalytic species, but they do not rule out the possibility of the trans isomers. Our gas phase results show that cis-1 has 4.95 kcal/mol lower free energy than trans-1, and cis-2 has 10.39 kcal/mol lower free energy than trans-2. In the case of rhodium, trans-1 can take part to the catalytic cycle but in case of iridium this is not very likely. We have also investigated the possible mechanisms of the cis to trans conversions. The ligand association mechanism gave free energy barrier of 13.7 kcal/mol for the rhodium complex and 19.8 kcal/mol for iridium. Thus the conversion for the rhodium complex is feasible whereas for iridium it is unlikely.  相似文献

Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics (CPMD) and the static density functional method (DFT) with a conductor-like screening model (COSMO) were used to investigate the chemistry of aluminum (chloro)hydroxide in water. With these methods, the stability, reactivity, and acidic nature of the chosen chlorohydrate were able to be determined. Constrained molecular dynamics simulations were used to investigate the binding of chlorine in an aquatic environment. According to the results, aluminum preferred to be 5-fold-coordinated. In addition, the activation energy barriers for the dissociation of chlorine atoms from the original chlorohydrate structure were able to be determined. The actual values for the barriers were 14 +/- 3 and 40 +/- 5 kJ mol (-1). The results also revealed the acidity of the original cationic dimer. DFT with COSMO was used to determine free energy differences for the reactions detected in the molecular dynamic simulations. In conclusion, new results and insight into the aquatic chemistry of the aluminum (chloro)hydroxides are provided.  相似文献

The adsorption of silver and gold atoms, and M2, M6, and M13 (M=Ag or Au) clusters on the (0001) graphite surface has been investigated computationally using the density functional theory (DFT) with periodic boundary conditions and plane wave basis functions. The surface has been modeled as a single carbon sheet. The role of dispersion forces has been studied with an empirical classical model. The results show that the clusters avoid hollow sites on the graphite surface, and that the metal atoms favor atop and bond sites. Large structural changes are observed in octahedral M6 and icosahedral M13 clusters on the graphite surface when compared with gas-phase geometries. The results also indicate that if accurate results are required, the dispersion forces between metal and carbon atoms should be included in the studied systems.  相似文献

Oxygen reduction catalyzed by cofacial metalloporphyrins at the 1,2-dichlorobenzene-water interface was studied with two lipophilic electron donors of similar driving force, 1,1'-dimethylferrocene (DMFc) and tetrathiafulvalene (TTF). The reaction produces mainly water and some hydrogen peroxide, but the mediator has a significant effect on the selectivity, as DMFc and the porphyrins themselves catalyze the decomposition and the further reduction of hydrogen peroxide. Density functional theory calculations indicate that the biscobaltporphyrin, 4,5-bis[5-(2,8,13,17-tetraethyl-3,7,12,18-tetramethylporphyrinyl)]-9,9-dimethylxanthene, Co(2)(DPX), actually catalyzes oxygen reduction to hydrogen peroxide when oxygen is bound on the "exo" side ("dock-on") of the catalyst, while four-electron reduction takes place with oxygen bound on the "endo" side ("dock-in") of the molecule. These results can be explained by a "dock-on/dock-in" mechanism. The next step for improving bioinspired oxygen reduction catalysts would be blocking the "dock-on" path to achieve selective four-electron reduction of molecular oxygen.  相似文献

The oxygen-induced reconstruction of Cu(100) surfaces has been studied in great detail. Experimentally, missing row reconstruction occurs with an O coverage of 0.5 monolayer (ML). Several DFT-based calculations of vacancy-surface Cu pairs were performed at O coverage between 0 and 0.5 ML. No structure was identified in these calculations as being energetically favoured over the ideal Cu(100) structure. When a Cu atom (0.125 ML) was added to the system, a new energetically favourable missing row and added Cu-O-Cu row structure was found. It has been suggested that this structure is an important intermediate step towards the missing row formation. The transition from the missing and added row structure to the (2√2 × √2)R45o-O reconstruction has the energetic requirement of very good binding sites for the Cu atoms, which can be found on the step boundaries. These results are in excellent agreement with the step edge growth and the formation of strongly anisotropic islands observed by Lahtonen et al. (J. Chem. Phys. 129 (2008) 124703).  相似文献
