Structural Analogy Method in Studies of Adamantanes

The potential of the structural analogy method in the topological studies of adamantane derivatives and analogs is demonstrated. The topological and structural characteristics of these compounds are calculated. Chromatographic retention indices were determined experimentally. Correlations between the topological indices and the physicochemical and chromatographic characteristics are investigated.     

Reactivity of alkyl and polychloroalkyl radicals toward 1-hexene

The kinetics of CCl₃ radical addition to 1-hexene in CCl₃Br and CCl₄ media has been studied. The rate constant of CCl₃ addition to the double bond is shown to be independent of the solvent. The ratios between the rate constants of transfer and allyl chain termination for the alkyl and polychloroalkyl radicals have been estimated by competition methods. Activation parameters for the calculated rate constants are given.

Magnetic,resonant, and thermal properties of Fe<Subscript>0.27</Subscript>Mn<Subscript>0.73</Subscript>S crystals

Fe_0.27Mn_0.73S single crystals were studied. A magnetic transition is detected near 197 K, which is accompanied by anomalies of the thermal, electrical, and resonant properties.     

Magnetic properties of aerugite Co<Subscript>10</Subscript>Ge<Subscript>3</Subscript>O<Subscript>16</Subscript>

This paper reports on the first study of the temperature and field dependences of the magnetization, heat capacity, and electrical properties of synthesized polycrystalline samples of aerugite Co₁₀Ge₃O₁₆, as well as on x-ray diffraction analysis of this compound. It is shown that the cobalt ions in this compound occupy three nonequivalent positions. The results of the experimental and theoretical studies suggest that aerugite is a ferrimagnet with two uncompensated magnetic moments of the cobalt atom per formula unit.     

Heat capacity and thermal conductivity of Fe x Mn1 − x S single crystals

This paper reports on the results of investigations of the thermal properties and thermal conductivity of single crystals of homogeneous solid solutions Fe _x Mn_{1 ? x} S with a cubic NaCl structure, which have been prepared by the cation substitution for divalent manganese ions in manganese monosulfide. It has been revealed that the heat capacity and thermal conductivity exhibit anomalies in the range of the magnetic transition. The cation substitution is accompanied by an increase in the phase transition temperature.     

Thermal and physical properties of sodium niobate ceramics over a wide temperature range

The temperature dependences of the heat capacity C _p (T) and thermal expansion coefficient α(T) of NaNbO₃ ceramic samples have been investigated in the temperature range from 2 to 800 K. In addition to the anomalies associated with the known phase transitions at temperatures T ₆ ≈ 265 K, T ₅ ≈ 638 K, T ₄ ≈ 760 K, and T ₃ ≈ 793 K, anomalies in the behavior of C _p (T) and α(T) have been observed near T _5″ ≈ 500 K and T _5′ ≈ 600 K. It has been found that all the observed structural transformations, according to the values of the entropy change, are not related to the ordering of structural elements. It has been shown that, with an increase in the temperature, the unit cell volume during the phase transitions near 265, 515, 604, and 638 K decreases. The specific features of the transition to the phase R3c have been examined. Two possible scenarios of the sequence of phase transformations in the temperature range between T ₅ and T ₆ have been analyzed.     

Magnetic state of the GdFeTi2O7 compound

The X-ray diffraction, M?ssbauer, calorimetric, and magnetic characteristics of zirconolite GdFeTi₂O₇ have been measured to determine the ground magnetic state. A kink dependent on the magnetic prehistory of the sample has been revealed in the temperature dependence of the magnetic moment at T = 3 K. M?ssbauer spectroscopy has confirmed the nonequivalence of the iron ion positions in GdFeTi₂O₇. The experimental data obtained allow the conclusion on the formation of a spin glass state with the freezing temperature T _f = 3 K in the GdFeTi₂O₇ compound.     

“Blue silver”: transformation of clusters and metal coagulation

The formation and transformations of blue silver ( _max 700 nm) during -irradiation of a weakly alkaline (pH 9) aqueous solution containing AgClO₄, polyacrylic acid (PAA), and isopropanol were studied. We believe that blue silver is a linear silver cluster stabilized on a polymeric molecule. During radiation-chemical reduction the cluster is transformed into new clusters ( _max = 365 and 460 nm). When all of the Ag⁺ ions present in the solution have been reduced, clusters coalesce and a new phase,i.e., colloidal silver particles, forms.
