Synthesis and chiroptical properties of two new planar-chiral macrocycles

Could simple intraannular-arm macrocyclic systems exist in enantiopure stable forms? The effective synthesis of two representative compounds of such a class, their resolution into enantiomers, and experiments justifying their stability toward racemization are presented.     

Synthesis of macrocyclic tetraamides derived from α-amino acids and their investigations using ESI-MS technique

Chiral α,ω-diesters react under high-pressure conditions (10 kbar) with α,ω-diamines to give chiral cyclic tetraamides of C₂-symmetry. The complexation properties of tetraamides towards alkali metal cations (Li⁺, Na⁺, K⁺, Rb⁺ and Cs⁺) were estimated on the basis of ESI-MS spectra.     

The synthesis of 3,6-diamino-2,3,4,6-tetradeoxy-dl-threo-hexopyranose derivatives,substrates for the synthesis of negamycin

Three synthetic routes to derivatives of 3,6 - diamino - 2,3,4,6 - tetradeoxy - DL - threo - hexopyranose were investigated. Addition of sodium azide in acetic acid to 6 - phthalimido - 5,6 - dihydro - 2 - pyrone gave 4-azido compound (7) of the erythro configuration. From methyl 2,4 - dideoxy - β -dl- erythro - hexopyranoside threo 4 - phthalimido - 6 - phthalimidomethyl - tetrahydro - 2 - pyrone (17) was obtained in three steps in low overall yield. Addition of sodium azide in acetic acid to butyl 6 - oxo - 2 - hydroxy - hex - 4 - enoate followed by methylation, amonolysis of the ester group, and reduction gave methyl 3,6 - diacetamido - 2,3,4,6 - tetradeoxy - α - DL - threo - hexopyranoside (26).     

Factors Influencing the Course of the Macrocyclization of α,ω‐Diamines with Esters of α,ω‐Dicarboxylic Acids

The efficient synthesis of eight new macrocyclic amides (lactams) via reaction of diesters with diamines under normal dilution conditions is described. The role of intermolecular H‐bond formation and steric hindrance is discussed based on ¹H‐ and ¹⁵N‐NMR studies of appropriate model compounds. Principles for the optimal choice of esters that can be efficiently transformed into diamides have been developed.     

Effects of nonionic sugar surfactants on the phase transition of DPPC membranes

The influence of newly synthesized N-alkanoyl-N-methyllactitolamines (decanoyl [C₁₀MELA], lauoroyl [C₁₂MELA] and miristoyl [C₁₄MELA]) on the thermotropic phase transition of phosphatidylcholine bilayer was compared with common sugar-based surfactants N-dodecyl-β-d-glucopyranoside [C12G1] and decanoyl-N-methyl glucamide [MEGA-10]. The results indicate that C_nMELA are very active at the membrane surface and disturb the phospholipid bilayer structure less than commercially used MEGA-10 and C12G1.     

Enantioselective allylation of alkyl glyoxylates catalyzed by (salen)chromium(III) complexes

The enantioselective addition of allylstannanes and allylsilanes to alkyl glyoxylates of type 1, catalyzed by chiral (salen)Cr(III) complexes 3, has been studied. We have found that the reaction proceeded smoothly for low loading (1-2 mol %) of (1R,2R)-(salen)Cr(III)BF₄3a or (1R,2R)-(salen)Cr(III)ClO₄3c, and allyltributyltin under simple, undemanding conditions, affording (R)-2-hydroxypent-4-enoic acid esters 2 in good yield (61-90%) and enantioselectivity (58-76% ee).     

Structural studies of new chiral nickel (II) complexes of cyclams: The influence of a systematically varied number of amide groups

The synthesis and structures of nickel (II) complexes of chiral cyclams originating from l-proline are presented. Upon addition of nickel acteate, oxocyclams having amide groups underwent deprotonation forming distorted square-planar complexes. In the case of the all-amine analogue a six-coordinate octahedral complex is formed.     

Diastereoselective addition of vinylmagnesium halides to variously N-mono- and N,N-diprotected l-alaninals

Diastereoselective C₂-elongation processes of N-mono- 1a-c and N,N-diprotected 1d-fl-alaninals, using vinylmagnesium bromide and chloride, are described. A substantial difference between effects of the N-protecting groups replacing either one or two amino protons was observed.     

Influence of the size and geometry of the anion binding pocket of sugar–urea anion receptors on chiral recognition

Three new chiral urea-type anion receptors were synthesized from aromatic diamines and 1-amino-1-deoxyglucose. The anion binding properties of these receptors were studied using chiral carboxylates derived from mandelic acid and three α-amino acids. We found that the size of the anion binding pocket played an important role in chiral recognition processes. The best results were obtained for 1,8-diaminoanthracene and α-amino acid anions.
