Summary This paper contains three applications of the technique of limit series (our [1986]) to the theory of ramification of linear series on smooth curves, and curves of compact type, overC.Let {L t t|<}, be a family of linear series on a smooth family of smooth curves {C t }, and letp 1(t),p 2(t)C t be sections of the family which coincide (only) att=0. Setp=p 1())=p 2(0)C 0.We first give a condition related to the Schubert calculus which must be satisfied by the ramification series and the . We then take up the converse problem: In what ways can a given ramification point arise as a limit? We show that if the ramification point isdimensionally proper in the sense of our [1986], then families of every kind allowed by the Schubert calculus condition can actually be constructed. Finally, we prove that dimensional propriety is in a strong sense an open condition, so that ramification points constructed as above are again dimensionally proper.In the body of the paper we work not with pairs of points, as above, but with arbitrary finite collections of points approaching (possibly) several points of the limit curve. Further, by their nature, the results are valid for families of curves of compact type.  相似文献

The K-Selectride reduction at low temperature (-45°C) of 7-oxo-5α-holestan-3β-yl acetate and methyl 7-oxo-3α-hydroxy-5(β-cholanoate resulted in almost quantitative yield of the 7α-alcohol in the 5α-compound but only moderate yield of the 5β-analog. The simultaneous reduction of two carbonyl groups in the 3 and 7 positions afforded good to excellent yields of the diaxial diol in planar steroids (methyl 3,7-dioxo-5α-cholanoate, 3,7-dioxo-5α-cholestane and methyl 3,7-dioxo-5α-cholestan-27-oate) and only 14% of 3α,7α-(OH)2 from methyl 3,7-dioxo-5β-cholanoate.  相似文献

Thresholds for discriminating the fundamental frequency (FO) of a complex tone, FODLs, are small when low harmonics are present, but increase when the number of the lowest harmonic, N, is above eight. To assess whether the relatively small FODLs for N in the range 8-10 are based on (partly) resolved harmonics or on temporal fine structure information, FODLs were measured as a function of N for tones with three successive harmonics which were added either in cosine or alternating phase. The center frequency was 2000 Hz, and N was varied by changing the mean FO. A background noise was used to mask combination tones. The value of FO was roved across trials to force subjects to make within-trial comparisons. N was roved by +/- 1 for every stimulus, to prevent subjects from using excitation pattern cues. FODLs were not influenced by component phase for N= 6 or 7, but were smaller for cosine than for alternating phase once N exceeded 7, suggesting that temporal fine structure plays a role in this range. When the center frequency was increased to 5000 Hz, performance was much worse for low N, suggesting that phase locking is important for obtaining low FODLs with resolved harmonics.  相似文献

Tetrahedron shape measures are used for evaluating the quality of tetrahedra in finite element meshes. Three shape measures, theminimum solid angle min theradius ratio , and themean ratio , are discussed in this paper. A new formula for the computation of a solid angle of tetrahedron is derived. For different shape measures andv (with values 1), we establish a relationship between andv of the form wherec 0,c 1,e 0, ande 1 are positive constants. This means that if one measure approaches zero for a poorly-shaped tetrahedron, so does the other. Combined with the property that each measure attains a maximum value only for the regular tetrahedron, this means that the shape measures are equivalent.This work was partially supported by a grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.  相似文献

Resonance-line scattering in static low density media with large optical thickness has a diffusive behavior in both space and frequency because photons belonging to the Lorentzian wings of the line may be scattered almost monochromatically a very large number of times. This diffusive behavior holds on frequency scales and spatial scales, χc and τc, much larger than the scales associated with one elementary scattering of a wing-photon.A method developed for diffusion approximations in neutron transport theory, suitably generalized to handle diffusion in frequency space, is applied to the case of conservative scattering in a bounded medium with interior sources and zero incoming radiation. The method is to separate the line radiation field into an interior part and a boundary layer part which goes to zero in the interior. Each part is expanded in terms of a small parameter ?, which is the ratio of the mean free-path at frequency χc to the characteristic spatial scale τc.It is shown that the leading term in the interior asymptotic expansion is isotropic, zero on the boundary, and obeys a space and frequency diffusion equation. In the boundary-layer expansion, the leading term is of order ? and is a solution to a monochromatic transfer equation in a semi-infinite, plane-parallel medium. The emergent radiation field is shown to be of order ? and proportional to the gradient of the interior solution at the boundary. Its angular dependence, in the case of isotropic scattering in the atom frame, is given by the Ambartsoumian H-function. A comparison is presented between numerical solutions of the full transfer equation and asymptotic solutions. Non-conservative scattering and time-dependent problems are briefly discussed.  相似文献

This paper presents Hurst exponent footprints from pseudo-dynamic measurements of significantly varied activities on a damaged bridge structure during rehabilitation through continuous monitoring. The system is interesting due to associated uncertainty in large-scale structures and significant presence of human intervention arising from fundamentally different processes. Investigations into the variation of computed Hurst exponents on time series of limited lengths are carried out in this regard. The Hurst exponents are compared with respect to specific events during the rehabilitation, as well as with the data collection locations. The variations of local Hurst exponents about the values computed for each activity are presented. The scaling of Hurst exponents for different activities is also investigated; these are representative of the extent of multifractality for each event. The extent of multifractality is assessed along with its source and time dependency.  相似文献

The performance of an integrated capillary electrophoresis system with a novel split-flow sample injection mechanism and special high sensitivity UV absorbance detector is described. Sample introduction into the capillary is accomplished with a standard HPLC-type microliter syringe. The injected sample is divided proportionally between the separation capillary and an adjustable splitvent. The volume of sample introduced into the capillary can be manipulated by varying the length or the i.d. of the splitvent tubing; or the volume of sample injected. Data are presented showing reproducibility of retention time, peak height, and peak area; minimum detectability; and operation at short UV wavelengths.  相似文献

Molecular reorientation in the presence of internal rotation is investigated and an analytical expression for the spin—rotational rate of a nucleus attached to the internal rotor is obtained in terms of the internal angular-momentum correlation time. A model of a symmetric-top molecule undergoing anisotropic rotational diffusion is extended to include a modified extended diffusion of internal rotation. The result is applied to liquid toluene and the internal angular-momentum correlation time is evaluated from the 13C nuclear spin—rotational relaxation rate of the methyl carbon. A comparison with the previous result on the dipole—dipole relaxation data is made and the consistency of the present theory is discussed.  相似文献
