Résumé Les auteurs ont étudié le comportement chromatographique sur plusieurs phases stationnaires polaires et non polaires de composés cyclopropaniques stéréoisomêres: où R=H ou CH₃ et X=CH, COOCH₃ ou CH₂OH. Les résultats sont interprétés en fonction de la configuration de X par rapport à , de la nature électronique de X et de l'orientation du phényle par rapport au plan du cyclopropane.

Summary The chromatographic behaviour, on several polar and non polar phases, of stereoisomeric cyclopropanes has been studied R=H or CH₃ and X=CN, COOCH₃, CH₂OH. The results are interpreted in terms of the X versus configuration, the electronic nature of X and the orientation of the phenyl ring in relation to plane of the cyclopropane ring.

     

Free-radical addition of BrCCl3 to 1-decene initiated by tetrahydrofurane

Khrasch addition of BrCCl₃ to 1-decene and spin-trappinq ESR observations show that BrCCl₃ is spontaneously reduced in THF.     

An integrated coupled column liquid chromatography system for the determination of leukotriene metabolites in biological samples

Summary A fully integrated chromatographic system was developed for the determination of leukotrienes in biological samples using photodiode-array detection (PDAD), which eliminates time consuming manual sample handling steps. A special solid phase extraction, (SPE) methodology for leucotriene metabolite stability was developed which increased the recoveries and eliminates the contamination risk of biological samples. The inherent instability (autooxidation) of many of the leukotriene mediators, and the adsorption effects onto exposed surfaces in vials and in the chromatographic system were found to be very important parameters to control in order to circumvent high loss of sample analytes. By binding the cell supernatants to the functionalities of the SPE support stabilised these mediators. Cell culture samples were eluted through a disposable C₁₈ SPE column. The SPE columns were allowed to thaw and deposited in an automated sample handling unit (ASPEC XL). Desorption of the analytes was followed by a second on-line SPE step, to eliminate remaining interfering matrix compounds. Typical recoveries when stored at −70°C were in-between 55–97% except for (LTE₄) which was found to be around 40% after 72 days of storage. Seven reversed-phase packings were studied. Selectivity factors, as well as the separation efficiencies, were found to differ for the various C₁₈ bonded silica stationary phases. This integrated on-line column liquid chromatographic system was applied to the determination of leukotriene B₄, leukotriene C₄, leukotriene D₄, leukotriene and E₄ in human cell extracts using prostaglandin B₂ as the internal standard. More than 1500 biological samples were analysed. Some validation data are presented for unattended operations.     

Thermodynamic excess properties of alkanol + amine mixtures and application of the ERAS model

New experimental data of the molar excess volume V ^E of the mixtures ethanol/n-butylamine, heptanol/n-butylamine, n-propanol/dibutylamine have been obtained using the technique of the vibrating tube densitometer. Together with the data for the molar excess enthalpy H ^E from the literature, the V ^E data have been used for testing the applicability of the socalled ERAS model which accounts for hydrogen bonding effects as well as for free volume effects in associating mixtures. The results obtained by adjusting the model parameters reveal a strong cross association between the unlike molecules in the mixture resulting from strong negative values for the hydrogen bonding energy and the hydrogen bonding volume.Communicated at the Festsymposium celebrating Dr. Henry V. Estimation of band alignment at CdS/Cu2ZnSnS4 hetero-interface by direct XPS measurements

This paper aims to estimate the band alignment to CdS/CZTS hetero-interface by direct X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements. XPS was used to determinate the valence-band offset (VBO) directly by determining the valence band positions at the hetero-interface. The conduction band offset (CBO) value was estimated based on the band gap measurements by UV/Visible spectroscopy and VBO measurements. The position of valence band (VB) changes close to the CdS-CZTS interface and the CBO is cliff-like. The band alignment diagram indicates that the CdS-CZTS interface heterojunction is type II.     

Stress State of an Elastic Space with a Toroidal‐Shaped Cavity

Solutions are obtained for the stress state problem for an elastic space with an internal toroidalshaped cavity that can be expanded in a trigonometric series in the angle in cylindrical coordinates. Displacements and stresses are specified on the boundary. An analytic solution of the problem is found using generalized analytic functions. Stresses and displacements of points in the elastic space are calculated.
