The quality of the surface of metallic wires is relevant for different applications. The reflection of a laser beam on the surface of a metallic cylindrical wire provides an efficient way to inspect the quality of its surface. Our interest is focused in the detection of axially oriented defects, which are the most relevant for the wire drawing process. We present a simple interference-geometrical model to describe the light pattern reflected from a wire with defects. This model adequately accounts for the observed results from an industrial prototype developed for the purpose. It incorporates three-laser beams incident on the wire at equidistant locations in its perimeter, which produce three reflection cones with a CCD. This configuration permits to explore the whole perimeter of the wire. Several results are presented, both in static operation and in production line, in agreement with qualitative and quantitative predictions.  相似文献

The spin polarizationP of the low energy cascade electrons excited with a primary unpolarized electron beam is measured with ultrathin films of permalloy (Ni80Fe20) as a function of film thickness, external magnetic field, and temperatureT. Surface adsorbates of small concentrations of less than 10% of a monolayer can change the Curie point and the saturation value ofP 0(T0) by as much as 30%. The Ta-substrate induces a magnetically dead region in permalloy. Conventional spin wave theory cannot account for the observed smallT-dependence of the magnetizationM. Films on a nonmagnetic substrate are compared to similar films coupled to bulk permalloy over an interface of Ta. TheT-dependence ofM with the coupled films can be explained by spin wave theory. At lowT, the films coupled to the bulk exhibit a faster decrease ofM than the uncoupled films. We propose that this thermal stabilization of the magnetization in very thin ferromagnetic films is due to quenching of the long wavelength spin modes.  相似文献

A surface probing depth of only 2 layers for low energy cascade electrons excited with a 3.2 keV primary electron beam is clearly demonstrated by model experiments with non-magnetic overlayers of Ta on magnetic substrates of Fe/Ni80Fe20. This result establishes a short probing depth of low energy electrons in transition metals generalizing the previously observed short magnetic probing depth for spin-polarized electrons in ferromagnets. The short probing depth sheds new light on a number of spectroscopic observations on ferromagnetic transition metals, and has important implications concerning surface magnetic properties and scattering processes of hot electrons in transition metals.  相似文献

In the present work the phenomenon of in situ crystallization of low molecular weight organic compounds from an amorphous polymer was studied. Phase diagrams of tetrachloroxylene and tetrachlorobenzene with polystyrene showing softening, precipitation, and dissolution have been constructed. Three modes of crystallization, namely, needlelike, dendritic, and tiny crystalline particles have been observed depending on cooling rate. Hot stage optical microscopy and electron microscopy have been used to study crystallization, dissolution, and morphology. Softening temperature was determined by the vicat method. Shearing of samples undergoing crystallization has produced oriented samples.  相似文献

An energy-conserving spectral solution is derived and tested. A range-dependent medium is approximated by a sequence of range-independent regions. In each region, the acoustic field is represented in terms of the horizontal wave-number spectrum. A condition corresponding to energy conservation is derived for the vertical interfaces between regions. The accuracy of the approach is demonstrated for problems involving sloping ocean bottoms. The energy-conserving spectral solution is less efficient than the energy-conserving parabolic equation solution, but might be suitable for generalization to problems involving elastic bottoms.  相似文献

A tank experiment was carried out to investigate underwater sound propagation over an elastic bottom in flat and sloping configurations. The purpose of the experiment was to evaluate range-dependent propagation models with high-quality experimental data. The sea floor was modeled as an elastic medium by a polyvinyl chloride slab. The relatively high rigidity of the slab requires accounting for shear waves in this environment. Acoustic measurements were obtained along virtual arrays in the water column using a robotic apparatus. Elastic parabolic equation solutions are in excellent agreement with data.  相似文献

The photoelectric yieldY of clean Ag and Au particles suspended in He-gas has been measured up to photon energieshv=10 eV.Y shows strong deviations from the bulk in the case of Ag but not in the case of Au.
