The role of strange sea quarks on neutrino-nucleus reactions in Superkamiokande and in the supernova r-process

We study the influence of a strange axial vector form factor G_s of the nucleon on the neutrino-induced proton and neutron knockout of ¹⁶O. In particular, we calculate how much G_s≠0 might affect the recently proposed signal for supernova ν_μ and ν_τ neutrinos in the Superkamiokande detector. We discuss whether Superkamiokande might be able to determine the value of G_s in a hypothetical neutrino-beam experiment. Finally we comment on the possible effect G_s≠0 might have on neutrino-nucleus cross sections in the neutrino-driven wind model for the nuclear r-process. On Diphenyl Thiophosphinyl Hydrazide Reaction of diphenyl thiophosphinly chloride with hydrazine hydrate yields diphenyl thiophosphinyl hydrazide. Heating this above 80°C leads to the formation of N,N′-bis-[diphenyl thiophosphinyl]-hydrazide, which has also been prepared by reaction of hydrazine hydrate and diphenyl thiophosphinyl chloride. IR-spectra and properties are described.     

Probabilities of delayed processes for nuclei involved in the r-process

Delayed fission, along with induced and spontaneous fission, is responsible for the suppression of the production of superheavy elements both during the r-process and after its completion. Beta-decay strength functions are required for calculating delayed fission. In the present study, respective strength functions are calculated by relying on the theory of finite Fermi systems and by predominantly employing nuclear masses and fission barriers predicted by a generalized Thomas-Fermi model. The probabilities for delayed fission and for the emission of delayed neutrons are calculated for a number of isotopes. On the basis of calculations performed in order to determine the probabilities for delayed processes, it is shown that some of the delayed-fission probabilities calculated thus far were substantially overestimated. The application of these new results to calculating the r-process may change substantially both the r-process path and the yields of superheavy nuclei.

Simulation of the spherically symmetric stellar core collapse, bounce, and postbounce evolution of a star of 13 solar masses with boltzmann neutrino transport, and its implications for the supernova mechanism

With exact three-flavor Boltzmann neutrino transport, we simulate the stellar core collapse, bounce, and postbounce evolution of a 13M star in spherical symmetry, the Newtonian limit, without invoking convection. In the absence of convection, prior spherically symmetric models, which implemented approximations to Boltzmann transport, failed to produce explosions. We consider exact transport to determine if these failures were due to the transport approximations made and to answer remaining fundamental questions in supernova theory. The model presented here is the first in a sequence of models beginning with different progenitors. In this model, a supernova explosion is not obtained.
