Joint detection of a given number of reference fragments in a quasi-periodic sequence and its partition into segments containing series of identical fragments

The problem of joint a posteriori detection of reference fragments in a quasi-periodic sequence and its partition into segments containing series of recurring fragments from the reference tuple is solved. It is assumed that (i) an ordered reference tuple of sequences to be detected is given, (ii) the number of desired fragments is known, (iii) the index of the sequence term corresponding to the beginning of a fragment is a deterministic (not random) value, and (iv) a sequence distorted by an additive uncorrelated Gaussian noise is available for observation. It is established that the problem consists in testing a set of hypotheses about the mean of a random Gaussian vector. The cardinality of the set grows exponentially as the vector dimension (i.e., the sequence length) increases. An efficient a posteriori algorithm producing a maximum-likelihood optimal solution to the problem is substantiated. Time and space complexity bounds related to the parameters of the problem are derived. The results of numerical simulation are presented.     

Repeatability and reproducibility of retention data and band profiles on six batches of monolithic columns

Chromatographic data were acquired for eight different mixtures, under five different sets of experimental conditions, for a total of 30 neutral, acidic and basic test compounds, on a series of six Chromolith Performance columns from Merck. These columns are made of a C₁₈ chemically bonded silica monolith. Each column belonged to a different production batch, so the data reported here characterize their batch-to-batch reproducibility. The parameters studied in this work were the retention times, the retention and separation factors, the hydrophobic and the steric selectivities, the column efficiencies, and the tailing factors for all 30 compounds.     

Quantum-chemical calculations of electronic-absorption spectra of aromatic amino acids in aqueous solution

Quantum-chemical methods are used to calculate electronic-absorption spectra, dipole moments, and atomic-charge distributions of aromatic amino acids in aqueous solutions at various concentrations. The electronic-absorption spectra are analyzed and compared with the spectra that are calculated for gas phase. The bathochromic shift of the spectral position is shown for the long-wavelength absorption peak of the singlet-singlet transition for aqueous solutions of amino acids.     

Complexation and transport of amino acid esters and their salts with synthesised chiral novel aza crown ether derivatives

The syntheses of four aza-15-crown-5 ethers bearing phenyl and phenoxymethyl moieties attached to a stereogenic centre on the crown ring were achieved. Macrocycles have exhibited strong binding ability (K_a = 5364–12,969 M^? 1) and modest enantiomeric discrimination towards the enantiomers of amino acid methyl ester salts by UV titration method in CHCl₃ at 25°C. Computer modelling results supported experimental data providing a detailed understanding of the molecular recognition mode between hosts and guests and the likely binding sites involved. Macrocycles were used for chiral discrimination of amino acids in their zwitterionic forms or as potassium and sodium salts in transport experiments across a bulk chloroform membrane with satisfactory selectivity.     

Investigation of the spectral–luminescent properties of the threonine molecule

We have investigated the laser-excited photoluminescence spectra of powder and aqueous solution threonine. The spectral ranges of the photoluminescence and its intensity maxima have been determined. We have measured the spectral dependence of the molar extinction coefficient of an aqueous solution of threonine. Using quantum-chemical methods, we have calculated the electron absorption spectrum, the dipole moment, and the distributions of charges on individual atoms of the threonine molecule. The calculated electron absorption spectrum has been compared with experiment.     

Investigation of Some Functionalization Reactions of 4‐Benzoyl‐5‐phenyl‐1‐(4‐methoxyphenyl)‐1H‐pyrazole‐3‐carbonyl Chloride and Their Antimicrobial Activity

The 1H‐pyrazole‐3‐carboxylic acid 1 was converted via reactions of its acid chloride 3 with various asymmetrical disubstituted urea and alcohol derivatives into the corresponding novel 4‐benzoyl‐N‐(N′,N′‐dialkylcarbamyl)‐1‐(4‐methoxyphenyl)‐5‐phenyl‐1H‐pyrazole‐3‐carboxamide 4a , b and alkyl 4‐benzoyl‐1‐(4‐methoxyphenyl)‐5‐phenyl‐1H‐pyrazole‐3‐carboxylate 7a‐c , respectively, in good yields (57%‐78%). Friedel‐Crafts reactions of 3 with aromatic compouns for 15 min.‐2 h led to the formation of the 4‐3‐diaroyl‐1‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐5‐phenyl‐1H‐pyrazoles 9a‐c , 4‐benzoyl‐1‐(4‐methoxyphenyl)‐3‐aroyl‐5‐phenyl‐1H‐pyrazoles 10a , b and than from the acylation reactions of 9a‐c were obtained the 3,4‐diaroyl‐1‐(4‐acyloxyphenyl)‐5‐phenyl‐1H‐pyrazoles 13a‐d . The structures of all new synthesized compounds were established by NMR experiments such as ¹H, and ¹³C, as well as 2D COSY and IR spectroscopic data, and elemental analyses. All the compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial activities (agar diffusion method) against eight bacteria and two yeasts.     

Preparation of New Calix[4]arene-Immobilized Biopolymers for Enhancing Catalytic Properties of Candida rugosa Lipase by Sol–Gel Encapsulation

The article describes preparation of new calixarene biopolymers consisting of the immobilization of convenience calixarene derivative onto cellulose and chitosan biopolymers, and the encapsulation of these calixarene biopolymers with Candida rugosa lipase within a chemical inert sol–gel supported by polycondensation with tetraethoxysilane and octyltriethoxysilane. The catalytic properties of immobilized lipase were evaluated into model reactions employing the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenylpalmitate and the enantioselective hydrolysis of naproxen methyl esters from racemic prodrugs in aqueous buffer solution/isooctane reaction system. The resolution studies using sol–gel support have observed more improvement in the enantioselectivity of naproxen E?=?300 with Cel-Calix-E than with encapsulated lipase without calixarene-based materials. Furthermore, the encapsulated lipase (Cel-Calix-E) was still retained about 39 % of their conversion ratios after the fifth reuse in the enantioselective reaction.
