A special family of partitions occurs in two apparently unrelated contexts: the evaluation of one-dimensional configuration sums of certain RSOS models, and the modular representation theory of symmetric groups or their Hecke algebras Hm. Although the most important use of nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) continues to be for diagnostic medicine, recognition is being gained for many nonmedical applications. Examples include the following areas: petrogeology, food, agriculture, polymers and polymer-composites, and pharmaceuticals. These areas all involve studies of species that have short spin-spin relaxation times, and consequently need far fast gradient switching. We demonstrate that a pair of additive quintic equations in at least 34 variables has a nontrivial integral solution, subject only to an 11-adic solubility hypothesis. This is achieved by an application of the Hardy–Littlewood method, for which we require a sharp estimate for a 33.998th moment of quintic exponential sums. We are able to employ p-adic iteration in a form that allows the estimation of such a mean value over a complete unit square, thereby providing an approach that is technically simpler than those of previous workers and flexible enough to be applied to related problems.  相似文献

The fusion–evaporation reaction 10B(12C, 2n) was used to make the first observation of in-beam γ decays from the astrophysically important nucleus 20Na, lying adjacent to the proton drip-line. All states below the proton threshold in 20Na were populated and identified in the experiment. These include new levels, previously unresolved levels, and states located with improved energy precision. The level structure of 20Na, and its γ transitions, are compared to the mirror partner 20F measured simultaneously in this experiment. In particular, a high degree of energy stability is found for all negative parity states. These results are discussed in the context of the nuclear shell model.  相似文献

High-spin states in 59Cu were populated using the fusion-evaporation reaction 28Si + 40Ca at a beam energy of 122 MeV. The Gammasphere Ge-detector array in conjunction with the 4π charged-particle detector array Microball allowed for the detection of γ-rays in coincidence with evaporated light particles. The resulting extensive high-spin decay scheme of 59Cu is presented, which comprises more than 320 γ-ray transitions connecting about 150 excited states. Their spins and parities have been assigned via directional correlations of γ-rays emitted from oriented states. Average quadrupole moments of rotational bands have been determined from the analysis of residual Doppler shifts. Shell model calculations in the fp shell are invoked to study some of the low-spin states, while the experimental characteristics of the rotational bands are analyzed in the configuration-dependent cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky (CNS) approach. Gold ultra-microelectrode arrays are used to explore the electrochemical oxidation of hydroxide ions and are shown to be analytical useful. Two types of ultra-microelectrode arrays are used; the first consist of 256 individual electrodes of 5 microm in radius, 170 of which are electrochemically active in a cubic arrangement which are separated from their nearest neighbour by a distance of 100 microm. The second array compromises 2597 electrodes of 2.5 microm in radius and of which 1550 of which are electrochemically active in a hexagonal arrangement separated by the nearest neighbour by 55 microm. Well defined voltammetric waves are found with peak currents proportional to the concentration of hydroxide ions in the range 50 microM to 1 mM. Detection limits of 20 microM using the 170 ultra-microelectrode and 10 microM with the 1550 ultra-microelectrode array are shown to be possible but with a higher sensitivity of 4 mA M(-1) observed using the 1550 ultra-microelectrode array compared to 1.2 mA M(-1) with the 170 ultra-microelectrode array.  相似文献

Lamb pregastric lipase was purified from a commercial source using delipidation, solubilization with KSCN, acid-precipitation, pepsin-digestion, affinity chromatography with agarose-Cibacron Blue F3GA, gel filtration, and elution from a native 10% (w/v) polyacrylamide gel. The enzyme had a single subunit of 68,000 Da with maximum esterase activity when measured at pH 6.0 and 30 degrees C. The enzyme preferentially hydrolyzed short- and medium-chain (C4, C6, and C8) synthetic esters and short-chain (C4 and C6) monoacid triglycerides. The NH2-terminal sequence demonstrated high homology with gastric and lingual lipases.  相似文献

Following a myocardial infarction (MI) cells die or are damaged and their contents leak into the blood circulation, resulting in elevated serum levels of various enzymes, proteins, and organic molecules. Over the past few decades, it has become standard practice to employ the detection of these elevated substances as markers for the confirmation of MIs and to monitor MI patients’ response to treatment. Although it has previously been shown that cytochrome-c, a small respiratory protein, is among those elevated, the lack of a suitable detection system has prevented its routine use in the diagnosis of MIs. We present a preliminary study in which chemiluminescence was employed to detect elevated levels of cytochrome-c in the serum of MI patients. The technique, which is specific for c-type proteins, is approx 30 times more sensitive than the traditional Coomassie blue stain and can detect as little as 0.03 μg of protein. It also has potential for diagnostic use in other diseases that are characterized by mitochondrial damage.  相似文献

The sequential association energies for one through six water molecules clustering to Na(2)I(+), as well as one and two water molecules clustering to Na(3)I(2)(+), are measured. The association energies show a pairwise behavior, indicating a symmetric association of water molecules to the linear Na(2)I(+) and Na(3)I(2)(+) ions. This pairwise behavior is well reproduced by Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. DFT calculations also suggest that a significant separation of charge for the Na-I ion pair occurs when four or more water molecules cluster to a single sodium center. Two different solvent-separated ion pairs have been identified with the DFT calculations. Experiments also show that the dissolution processes, loss of a neutral NaI unit, occurs when six or more water molecules have been added to Na(2)I(+) cluster. However, one or two water molecules are able to detach an NaI unit from the Na(3)I(2)(+) cluster. The difference in solubility of the Na(2)I(+) and Na(3)I(2)(+) ions is due to the difference in the energies required to lose an NaI unit from these two species. The experiment also confirms that the loss of a neutral NaI unit, instead of an Na(+) ion, occurs during the dissolution processes of Na(3)I(2)(+). The microsolvation schemes proposed to explain our experimental observations are supported by DFT and phase space theory (PST) calculations.  相似文献
