Electron impact excitation of Fe25+

A three-state close-coupling calculation of the impact excitation of the 2s and 2p states of the hydrogenic ion Fe²⁵⁺ has been performed using the algebraic variational method.     

L = 2, 3 phase shifts for electron-hydrogen scattering

A variational calculation using a pseudo-state basis has determined phase shifts for partial waves of L = 2, 3 for the scattering of electrons by hydrogen atoms in the energy range 0.01–0.75 Ry.

Band structure,optical properties,and compton profile of copper

A self-consistent calculation of the band structure of copper has been performed using a basis of gaussian orbitals and a local exchange-correlation potential. Results are also presented for the optical conductivity and the Compton profile.     

Dimensional reduction by Monte Carlo

A Monte Carlo method for mapping a field theoretical or statistical system to a new theory embedded in a space-time of lesser dimensionality is presented. Typically, the critical properties of the dimensionally reduced system depend upon the details of the mapping. As an example, the two-dimensional Ising model is mapped to a one-dimensional Ising model with long-range forces and a phase transition. Systems with long-range interactions and known exponents can thus be constructed with this procedure.     

Inelastic scattering of electrons by helium

Measurements of the angular distribution and total cross section for all inelastic processes in the scattering of intermediate and high energy electrons by helium atoms are analyzed using the first Born approximation.     

Ionization of hydrogen atoms by electron impact

Cross sections for the ionization of hydrogen atoms by electron impact have been computed for incident energies from threshold up to 54 eV. A projection technique has been used in conjunction with a variational pseudostate calculation.
