Study of the reactione + e −→K + K − in the energy range1350 \leqq \sqrt s \leqq 2400 MeV

Thee ⁺ e ^?→K ⁺ K ^? cross section has been measured from about 750 events in the energy interval \(1350 \leqq \sqrt s \leqq 2400 MeV\) with the DM2 detector at DCI. TheK ^± form factor |F _F ^±| cannot be explained by the ρ, ω, ? and ρ′(1600). An additional resonant amplitude at 1650 MeV has to be added as suggested by a previous experiment.     

A synthetic divalent cholera toxin glycocalix[4]arene ligand having higher affinity than natural GM1 oligosaccharide

A high-affinity ligand of cholera toxin, the divalent glycocalix[4]arene 1, was obtained by exploiting a combination of structure-based design of glycomimetic monovalent ligands and affinity enhancements by multivalent presentation through a calix[4]arene scaffold. It exhibits a slightly higher affinity for the toxin than its natural ligand, the GM1 oligosaccharide.     

Mathematical model for the analytical signal of an herbicide sensor based on the reaction centre of Rhodobacter sphaeroides

This paper introduces a mathematical model which makes it possible both to determine the concentration of photosynthetic herbicides and to obtain a quantitative parameter in order to compare their activity using a previously described sensing system. The working principle involves the changes in absorption properties at 860 nm of the reaction centre (RC) isolated from the bacteria Rhodobacter sphaeroides when photosynthetic herbicides are present. The method has been used for the determination and activity comparison of five photosynthetic herbicides: diuron, atrazine, terbutryn, terbuthylazine and simazine. Detection limits obtained were 2.2, 0.75, 0.046, 0.25, and 1.4 μM, respectively. The resulting order for the different herbicides according to their action on RC was: terbutryn > terbuthylazine > atrazine > simazine > diuron.     

Cu(II) complexes with heterocyclic substituted thiosemicarbazones: the case of 5-formyluracil. Synthesis,characterization, x-ray structures,DNA interaction studies,and biological activity

Two new 5-formyluracil thiosemicarbazone (H(3)ut) derivatives, Me-H(3)ut (1) and Me(2)-H(3)ut (2), were synthesized by reacting thiosemicarbazides, mono- and dimethylated on the aminic nitrogen, with 5-formyluracil and were subsequently characterized. These ligands, treated with copper chloride and nitrate, afforded three complexes: [Cu(Me-H(3)ut)Cl(2)].H(2)O (3), [Cu(Me(2)-H(3)ut)Cl(2)].H(2)O (4), and [Cu(Me-H(3)ut)(NO(3))(OH(2))(2)]NO(3) (5). The crystal structures of these complexes have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In 3 and 4, a similar pentacoordination is present; the copper atom is surrounded by the ligand SNO donor atoms and by two chloride ions. The structure of 5 consists of [Cu(Me-H(3)ut)(NO(3))(OH(2))(2)](+) cations and nitrate anions. The copper coordination (4 + 2) involves the SNO ligand atoms and a water oxygen in the basal plane; the apical positions are occupied by a second water oxygen and by an oxygen of a monodentate nitrate group. Two biochemical techniques, namely DNA titration in the UV-vis region and thermal denaturation, have been employed to probe the details of DNA binding of these compounds. Analysis of the results suggests that our compounds are able to interact with DNA by electrostatic and groove binding but not by intercalation. The compounds have been also tested in vitro on human leukemic cell line U937, but they are not able to inhibit significantly cell proliferation.     

Radiative decay ofJ/ψ into γ π+ π−

The radiative decayJ/ψ → γ π⁺ π^? has been studied using the 8.6 millionJ/ψ produced in the DM2 experiment at the DCIe ⁺e^? storage rings at Orsay. The π⁺ π^? mass spectrum shows a cleanf ₂ (1270) signal, and the possible presence of two other states at thef ₂ (1720) andf ₄ (2030) masses. For thef ₂ (1270), the branching ratio BR(J/ψ →γf)xBR(f→π⁺ π^?) is measured to be (7.50±0.30±1.12)×10^?4, and the spin analysis prefers theJ=2 assignment, with helicity parametersx=0.83±0.06 andy=0.01±0.06. The existence of higher mass states is discussed.     

Mössbauer spectra of “stannite group” minerals

Stannite group minerals were studied by means of Mössbauer spectroscopy. In particular we examined the problem of stannite-kesterite miscibility. From the behaviour of the Mössbauer linewidth as a function of the mineral composition it follows that all the samples have a single phase structure, in disagreement with the existence of a miscibility gap.
