Racemization of aspartyl residues in proteins is a post-translational process, related to ageing. A method is presented for the detection of aspartic acid enantiomers in protein hydrolysates, based on chiral capillary gas chromatography. It is fast, easy and preferable to the usual diastereomeric dipeptide technique. We present evidence that traces of metals that are extracted from the glassware during acidic hydrolysis are the main cause for high background racemization, which often troubles accurate measurements. Effective ways to reduce this background and its standard deviation to acceptable levels are discussed, and a mathematical approach to correct for background racemization is given. Hydrolysates of aged human eye lens proteins were used to demonstrate the enantiomeric separation. 相似文献

Isoperimetric inequalities are applied to a moving-boundaryproblem for doubly-connected domains. This problem occurs forexample in electrochemistry, in which case the domains in questionare the electrolyte of an electrolytic cell. The two electrodessurrounding the electrolyte are assumed to grow or dissolve,at different rates in general, by electrochemical reaction.We obtain optimal estimates showing, for example, that the leastchange in volume of each electrode always occurs in sphericalsymmetry. 相似文献

We have calculated the electromagnetic Brillouin precursor that arises in a one-dimensional photonic crystal that consists of two homogeneous slabs which each have a single electron resonance. This forerunner is compared with the Brillouin precursor that arises in a homogeneous double-electron resonance medium. In both types of medium, the precursor consists of the components of the applied pulse that have their frequencies below the lowest of the two electron resonances. In the inhomogeneous medium however, the slab contrast starts affecting the precursor field after a certain rise time of the precursor: its spectrum starts to peak at the geometric scattering resonances of the medium whereas minima appear at the Bragg-scattering frequencies. 相似文献
