We present a detailed discussion of the evolution of a statistical ensemble of quantum mechanical systems coupled weakly to a bath. The Hilbert space of the full system is given by the tensor product between the Hilbert spaces associated with the bath and the bathed system. The statistical states of the ensemble are described in terms of density matrices. Supposing the bath to be held at some - not necessarily thermal - statistical equilibrium and tracing over the bath degrees of freedom, we obtain reduced density matrices defining the statistical states of the bathed system. The master equations describing the evolution of these reduced density matrices are derived under the most general conditions. On time scales that are large with respect to the bath correlation time and with respect to the reciprocal transition frequencies of the bathed system, the resulting evolution of the reduced density matrix of the bathed system is of Markovian type. The detailed balance relations valid for a thermal equilibrium of the bath are derived and the conditions for the validity of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem are given. Based on the general approach, we investigate the non-linear response of the bathed subsystem to a time-periodic perturbation. We investigate the ferromagnetic resonance of Co/Cu/Co trilayers by use of AC-spin-transfer torque excitations. Magnetic structures are grown in a 6-μm-thick commercial nanoporous polycarbonate membranes by use of electrodeposition in a cobalt/copper single bath. We show that microwave magnetic excitations corresponding to the uniform mode of the two cobalt layers are electrically detected as a change of the DC voltage of the system.  相似文献

We investigate experimentally one of the main features of a quantum fluid constituted by exciton polaritons in a semiconductor microcavity, that is, quantum degeneracy of a macroscopic fraction of the particles. We show that resonant pumping allows us to create a macroscopic population of polaritons in one quantum state. Furthermore, we demonstrate that parametric polariton scattering results in the transfer of a macroscopic population of polariton from one single quantum state into another one. Finally, we briefly outline a simple method which provides direct evidence of the first-order spatial coherence of the transferred population.  相似文献

The thermodynamics of an electrically charged, multicomponent fluid with spontaneous electric and magnetic dipoles is analysed in the presence of electromagnetic fields. Taking into account the chemical composition of the current densities and stress tensors leads to three types of irreversible terms: scalars, vectors and pseudo-vectors. The scalar terms account for chemical reactivities, the vectorial terms account for transport and the pseudo-vectorial terms account for relaxation. The linear phenomenological relations, derived from the irreversible evolution, describe notably the Lehmann and electric Lehmann effects, the Debye relaxation of polar molecules and the Landau-Lifshitz relaxation of the magnetisation. This formalism accounts for the thermal and electric magnetisation accumulations and magnetisation waves. It also predicts that a temperature gradient affects the dynamics of magnetic vortices and drives magnetisation waves.  相似文献

Second-order time correlations of polaritons have been measured across the condensation threshold in a CdTe microcavity. The onset of Bose-Einstein condensation is marked by the disappearance of photon bunching, demonstrating the transition from a thermal-like state to a coherent state. Coherence is, however, degraded with increasing polariton density, most probably as a result of self-interaction within the condensate and scatterings with noncondensed excitons and polaritons. Such behavior clearly differentiates polariton Bose condensation from photon lasing.  相似文献

Raman scattering studies as functions of temperature, magnetic field, and Gd substitution are used to investigate the evolution of magnetic polarons and spin-carrier interactions through the metal-insulator transition in Eu(1-x)Gd(x)O. By using nuclear magnetic resonance techniques we show that for T<30 K the La0.875Sr0.125MnO3 compound displays a nonuniform charge distribution, comprised of two interconnected Mn ion subsystems with different spin, orbital, and charge couplings. The NMR results agree very well with the two spin wave stiffness constants observed at small q values in the spin wave dispersion curves [Phys. Rev. B 67, 214430 (2003)]. This picture is probably related to a yet undetermined charge and orbital superstructure occurring in the ferromagnetic insulating state of the La0.875Sr0.125MnO3 compound.  相似文献
