A refined stress-strain analysis in the load transfer zone of flat specimens of high-strength unidirectional composites in uniaxial tension 1. Theoretical analysis

With the use of an analytical approach developed, the influence of distribution of a tangential load on the stress concentration in uniaxially tensioned flat specimens of high-strength unidirectional composites near the grips of a testing machine is evaluated. In view of singularity of the analytical solution derived at the points of discontinuity of boundary conditions, for estimating the stress concentration, it is suggested to employ the averaged value of longitudinal stresses, which is calculated by means of an improper integral across the thickness of a near-surface layer. __________ Translated from Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, Vol. 42, No. 6, pp. 787–796, November–December, 2006.     

Resistance of composite flywheel rim to radial tensile stresses from centrifugal forces based on results of pure bending of a rim segment

A method is proposed for evaluating the resistance of a flywheel rim to radial stresses in free rotation. The method is based on loading a rim segment in pure bending and calculating the limiting moment and the corresponding limiting angular velocity. Applicability of the method is substantiated theoretically by investigating the similarity of the radial stress diagrams in rotation and pure bending. Limit Regimes of Braking of Disc-Type Composite Flywheels Made by Filament Winding

A set of invariants describing the limit regimes of braking disk-type wound composite flywheels is suggested. The limit regime is determined by using a linear failure criterion. It is shown that, for generating short-time impulses of very high power, a set of small identical flywheels is more effective than one large flywheel with an equivalent mass. Particular examples illustrating the theory considered are discussed.     

The chemistry of indole

The opening of the pyrazolidine ring at the nitrogen-nitrogen bond in 1-arylpyrazolidine under the influence of acidic agents which leads to the formation of N-(3-aminoalkyl)indoles is described. The method enables one to obtain indoles with branched aminoalkyl radicals.For part XIII see [1].     

Mass-spectrometric study of 2- and 4-thiobarbituric acid derivatives

The mass spectra of 2- and 4-thiobarbituric acids and some of their close analogs at ionizing voltages of 70 and 14 eV are compared. Qualitative and quantitative differences in the behavior of these compounds under the influence of electron impact were established. It is shown that the position of the thione group in the ring and the tautomeric transformations have a substantial effect on the character of the fragmentation of the investigated compounds. The established fragmentation principles make it possible to distinguish the structural isomers in a series of 2- and 4-thiobarbituric acids from their mass spectra.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 4, pp. 529–535, April, 1976.     

Reactions of hydrazine derivatives

Synthesis of 3,3-disubstituted 2-iminoindolines by cyclization of 1-phenyl-2-acylhydrazines

3,3-Disubstituted 2-iminoindolines and the corresponding 10,10-disubstituted tetrahydropyrimido-[1,2-a] indoles, including compounds with spiran structures, were synthesized by reaction of 1-phenyl-2-acylhydrazines and l-phenyl-2-acylpyrazolidines geminally substituted at the-carbon atom of the acyl residue with phosphorus oxychloride. Possible mechanism of creep under internal pressure in laminated rings made of composite material

The authors discuss the deformative susceptibility of a ring made of spirally arranged armature layers and a polymer binder. They show that in prolonged stress on these rings by internal pressure under conditions of a highly pliable matrix additional deformation may occur, caused by sliding of the coils.
