Crystal structure of the La3+ sandwich complex based on 8-membered macrocyclic siloxanolate ligands

The product of the reaction between anhydrous lanthanum trichloride and potassium vinylsiloxanolate, K₅[VinSiO₂]₈La₄(₄-OH)[O₂SiVin]₈ · 5n-BuOH·2H₂O has been studied by X-ray diffraction. The compound is a «sandwich»-type complex where macrocyclic vinyloctasiloxanolate ligands with regularcis-configuration have co-axial and antiparallel orientation. These ligands coordinate a planar «cationic layer» formed by four La³⁺ ions and stabilized by an additional ₄-OH^– bridge ligand. A three-dimensional cage structure of complex lanthansiloxanolate pentaanions linked through the coordinated K⁺ counter-ions is formed in the crystal studied.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 1, pp. 184–189, January, 1993.     

Crystal Structure of N-Propargylcarbazole and N-(3-lodopropargyl)carbazole

An X-ray study of N-propargylcarbazole (I) and N-(3-iodopropargyl)carbazole (II) has been carried out. In the crystal II acetylenic groups form zigzag ladder-like infinite motives extended along the b axis. The motives are characterized by alternation of more close (and capable, in principle, of topochemical dimerization in crystal) and more distant pairs of acetylenic groups. A hypothetical possibility of topochemical polymerization in crystal II under uniaxial compression with formation of the ordered trans-polyacetylene is considered.     

Perturbation method for solving the nonlinear eigenvalue problem arising from fatigue crack growth problem in a damaged medium

An analytical solution of the nonlinear eigenvalue problem arising from the fatigue crack growth problem in a damaged medium in coupled formulation is obtained. The perturbation technique for solving the nonlinear eigenvalue problem is used. The method allows to find the analytical formula expressing the eigenvalue as the function of parameters of the damage evolution law. It is shown that the eigenvalues of the nonlinear eigenvalue problem are fully determined by the exponents of the damage evolution law. In the paper the third-order (four-term) asymptotic expansions of the angular functions determining the stress and continuity fields in the neighborhood of the crack tip are given. The asymptotic expansions of the angular functions permit to find the closed-form solution for the problem considered.
