Determination of the correlation effects in molecules using the complete error potential

Summary The complete error potential is used for the study of the correlation of molecules. The correlation can be seen as a relaxation of the electrons and a relaxation of the nuclei. From the Fermi sea, the electronic relaxation gives rise to a partial excitation of each orbital which collectively generates a linear, a surface or a volume pressure; the resulting forces acting on the nuclei are defined in a general theory of the intramolecular forces. H₃, H ₃ ⁺ , the diatoms and the hydrid of the first nine elements are taken as examples.

The stereoregularity of polymethylthiiranes initiated by zinc and cadmium thiolates depends upon the nature of the metal, temperature, solvent and the monomer/initiator concentrations ratio. Complexation of the metal with monomer has been studied by (¹³C) and (¹H) NMR on a model molecule, dimethylcadmium. Cryoscopic measurements made on a soluble cadmium thiolate have shown the presence of aggregates. The relationship between these observations and polymer stereoregularity is discussed.     

Electrochemistry and scanning electron microscopy of polyaniline/peroxidase-based biosensor

An amperometric biosensor was prepared by in situ deposition of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) enzyme on a polyaniline (PANI)-doped platinum disk electrode. The PANI film was electrochemically deposited on the electrode at 100 mV s⁻¹/Ag-AgCl. Cyclic voltammetric characterization of the PANI film in 1 M HCl showed two distinct redox peaks, which prove that the PANI film was electroactive and exhibited fast reversible electrochemistry. The surface concentration and film thickness of the adsorbed electroactive species was estimated to be 1.85×10⁻⁷ mol cm⁻² and approximately 16 nm, respectively. HRP was electrostatically immobilized onto the surface of the PANI film, and voltammetry was used to monitor the electrocatalytic reduction of hydrogen peroxide under diffusion-controlled conditions. Linear responses over the concentration range 2.5×10⁻⁴ to 5×10⁻³ M were observed. Spectroelectrochemistry was used to monitor the changes in UV-vis properties of HRP, before and after the catalysis of H₂O₂. The biosensor surface morphology was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) using PANI-doped screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs) in the presence and absence of (i) peroxidase and (ii) peroxide. The SEM images showed clear modifications of the conducting film surface structure when doped with HRP, as well as the effect of hydrogen peroxide on the morphology of biosensor.     

Benzyl esters of optically active malic acid stereocopolymers as obtained by ring-opening polymerization of (R)-(+) and (S)-(-)-benzyl malolactonates

(R)-(+) and (S)-(-)-benzyl malolactonates were copolymerized anionically by using triethylamine and aluminum porphyrin as initiators. Configurational composition of resulting optically active poly(benzyl β-malate) stereocopolymers depends on the enantiomeric purity in the monomer feed. Stereochemistry during the multistep synthesis starting from aspartic acid enantiomers used as precursors is discussed. It is shown that natural L(+)-aspartic acid yields (-)-poly(benzyl β-malate) which degrades to L(-)-malic acid in alkaline aqueous medium. Configurational structures were investigated by ¹³C NMR (75.47 MHz) and splittings of stereosensitive resonances are discussed in terms of stereosequence distributions. Results show that stereocopolymerization proceeds through random addition of chiral repeating units according to Bernoullian statistics. In order to exemplify the effect of enantiomeric composition on physical properties, thermal characteristics have been investigated by DSC for the whole series of stereocopolymers. Samples with more than 70% (S) or (R)-units are semicrystalline. Melting temperature and crystallinity increase with stereoregularity.     

Facile synthesis of N,N'-ethylenebisthiazolium salts: precursors of dithiadiazafulvalenes

Bis-thiazolium salts, precursors of dithiadiazafulvalene (DTDAF), have been prepared. Electrochemical investigations have been carried out on these salts in order to determine the redox behavior of DTDAF. These bis-thiazolium salts undergo intramolecular coupling, either chemically or electrochemically, to afford N,N'-ethylene-bridged DTDAF.     

Anomalous photon diffusion in atomic vapors

The multiple scattering of photons in a hot, resonant, atomic vapor is investigated and shown to exhibit a Lévy flight-like behavior. Monte Carlo simulations give insights into the frequency redistribution process that originates the long steps characteristic of this class of random walk phenomena.
