Composite materials were processed by casting a mixture of aqueous suspensions of latex and microfibrils. These microfibrils, or whiskers, are extracted from a sea animal and are monocrystals of cellulose, with an aspect ratio around 100 and an average diameter of 20 nm. It has been found that the mechanical properties (shear modulus) are increased by more than two orders of magnitude in the rubbery state of the polymeric matrix, when the whisker content was 6% (w/w). This very large effect is discussed on the basis of different types of mechanical models and it is concluded that these whiskers form a rigid network, probably linked by hydrogen bonds. The formation of this network is assumed to be governed by a percolation mechanism.  相似文献

We consider diffraction by a semi-infinite crack located alonga fusion interface between two differing elastic media. Twotypes of crack, namely open and partially closed cracks, areinvestigated. An open crack is modelled by a stress-free contactboundary condition and a partially closed crack is modelledby a spring contact boundary condition. For the latter, thejump in the stress across the crack is assumed to be proportionalto the jump in the displacement across the crack. This situationarises in, for example, a K-weld where the fine grain of theparent material (for example, ferritic or forged austeniticsteel) is in stark contrast with the coarse-grained weld metal(for example, austenitic weld metal). In the metal weld thedirection of the grain axis varies through the metal. However,diffraction is a local phenomenon and so the austenitic steelis assumed to have a zonal axis so that it may be modelled bya transversely isotropic composite. The ferritic or forged austeniticsteel will be modelled as an isotropic material.  相似文献

We report the routine generation of sub-5-fs laser pulses with 1-mJ energy and stable carrier–envelope phase at 1-kHz repetition rate, obtained by compressing the multi-mJ output from a phase-locked Ti:sapphire amplifier in a rare-gas-filled hollow fiber. The dual-stage amplifier features a hybrid transmission grating/chirped mirror compressor providing 2.2-mJ, 26-fs pulses at 1 kHz with standard phase deviation of 190 mrad rms. We demonstrate hour-long phase stability without feedback control of grating position or rigorous control of the laser environment, simply by using small pulse stretching factors in the amplifier, which minimize the beam pathway in the compressor. The amplifier also integrates a versatile AOPDF (acousto-optic programmable dispersive filter) for closed-loop spectral phase optimization. The various factors influencing the overall phase stability of the system are discussed in detail. Using the optimized output, 1-mJ, 4.5-fs pulses are generated by seeding the neon gas filled hollow fiber with a circularly polarized input beam. A standard phase deviation of 230 mrad after the HCF is obtained by direct f-to-2f detection and slow-loop feedback to the oscillator locking electronics without any additional spectral broadening.  相似文献

Novel χ(3)-based nonlinear polarization interferometer is theoretically and experimentally investigated. It enables efficient spatial and temporal filtering of femtosecond pulses via generation of cross-polarized wave. In this paper we present the first comprehensive study of the role of spectral phase on cross-polarized wave (XPW) generation using sub-30 femtosecond (fs) laser pulses. XPW generation improves the temporal contrast and shortens the pulse duration of fs chirped pulse amplification (CPA) lasers. For Ti:Sa lasers, compression below 30?fs is non-trivial and therefore never perfect. We therefore systematically analyze the effect of an arbitrary input spectral phase on the output spectrum and efficiency of the XPW process, both theoretically and experimentally. We derive the maximum acceptable value of residual phase for a given initial pulse duration in order to efficiently drive the XPW process for pulse shortening and contrast improvement.  相似文献

Herbimycin A and other members of the benzoquinoid ansamycin class of natural products are known to inhibit Hsp90 activity. The total synthesis of herbimycin A was achieved from the commercially available Roche ester 1 by using allylmetals to control the stereogenic centers at C6, C7, C10, C11, and C12 and a ring-closing metathesis to control the (Z)-double bond of the (E,Z)-dienic moiety.  相似文献

Imide units copolymerized with MMA units have been selected in order to improve compatibility between PC and acrylics through specific interaction or internal repulsion. Good dispersion of acrylic inside a PC matrix has been observed upon melt mixing, which can be partially explained by the good rheological agreement between these two polymers. Transmission electron microscopy has shown that the system remains phase separated from 5 to 95 wt % of PC. Phase diagrams for three different imide concentrations have been drawn. Results obtained by DSC (conventional and with enthalpy relaxation) are similar to those obtained by optical cloud point detection. The phase diagrams show the raise of the PC/PMMA demixtion curve (LCST type) when percentage of imide increases in the acrylic phase. Theoretical calculations on binary interaction energy density show a slight improvement of the interaction between acrylic and PC when imide percentage increases. Cloud point measurements on 50/50 PC/acrylic blends varying the imide concentration show that the improvement of compatibility deduced from the raise of the demixtion curve (LCST type) is more related to a kinetic effect (the high Tg of imidized samples is reducing macromolecule mobility) than specific interactions. The calculated favorable interactions are probably too weak to be detected with cloud point measurements. The microstructures obtained after crystallization of the PC phase under solvent vapors in phase separated PC/acrylics blends can also be explained by Tg effects. Moreover, solvent vapor exposure could be a powerful tool to determine the real thermodynamic behavior of the blends at room temperature. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
