Terminating high-spin bands in 101Rh

High spin states of ¹⁰¹Rh have been populated using the reaction ⁷⁰Zn+³⁶S at 130 MeV. γ-rays were detected with the EUROGAM2 array. New high-spin bands have been observed in this nucleus up to 45/2⁻, 57/2⁻ and 65/2⁺ states. They have been interpreted using the Nilsson-Strutinsky cranking formalism as terminating configurations. Two of the bands were observed up to the predicted terminating states which are built up from g_9/2 protons as well as d_5/2, g_7/2 and h_11/2 neutrons relative to a ⁹⁰Zr core. Photoinduced ligand transformations in a ruthenium complex of dimethoxytetrapyridotetraazapentacene

The dinuclear ruthenium(II) complex [(phen)(2)Ru(tatpOMe)Ru(phen)(2)](4+) (2(4+); phen is 1,10-phenanthroline and tatpOMe is 10,21-dimethoxy-9,10,20,33-tetraazatetrapyrido[3,2-a:2'3'-c:3',2'-l:2',3'-n]pentacene) has been synthesized and characterized by (1)H NMR, ESI mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Loss of methoxy group from bridging ligand of complex 2(4+) due to irradiation is observed by (1)H NMR and photochemistry. The interrelated electronic properties UV-Vis, electrochemistry, photochemistry and molecular orbital calculation are analyzed and discussed on the bridging ligand of the complex 2(4+).     

New examples of Beauville surfaces

We find new mixed and unmixed Beauville structures for groups constructed as 2-quotients, i.e. quotients of 2-power order, of the fundamental group of a certain simplicial complex.     

Band terminations in valence-space and core-excited configurations in102Pd

The level structure of¹⁰²Pd has been investigated using the Eurogam Phase2 array. Termination of rotational bands has been observed atI=28^? andI=32⁺, and tentatively atI=38⁺ andI=42⁺. Three other bands evolving towards termination have also been identified. These terminating bands are explained in terms of valence-space and core-excited configurations.     

High-spin study of Xe

High-spin states have been populated in ₅₄¹¹⁹Xe via the ⁹⁶Mo(²⁷Al,p3n) reaction at 133 MeV, using the γ-ray spectrometer to record triple γ-ray coincidences. The known level scheme has been significantly extended and several band crossings identified. In particular, the νh_11/2 yrast band has been extended to I^π = (83/2⁻) and shows features which are consistent with those of smooth band termination at high spin. Theoretical results for ¹¹⁹Xe at high spin are discussed within the framework of cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations, together with results for ¹¹⁷Xe.     

Counterexamples to a conjecture of Lemmermeyer

We produce infinitely many finite 2-groups that do not embed with index 2 in any group generated by involutions. This disproves a conjecture of Lemmermeyer and restricts the possible Galois groups of unramified 2-extensions, Galois over Q, of quadratic number fields.     

Four-quasiparticle high-K band in 130Ce

High-spin states have been populated in ¹³⁰Ce, using the ¹⁰⁰Mo(³⁴S, 4n??) reaction at 155 MeV. A new strongly coupled structure has been found and is interpreted as based on a mixed neutron-proton high-K four-quasiparticle configuration.     

High-spin states in the 96Tc nucleus

High-spin states in the ⁹⁶Tc nucleus have been studied with the reactions ⁸²Se(¹⁹F,5nγ) at 68 MeV and Zn(³⁶S,αpxn) at 130 MeV. Two γ-ray cascades (irregular bandlike structures) have been observed up to an excitation energy of about 10 MeV and spin 21-22?. Received: 19 January 2001 / Accepted: 30 March 2001
