The sliding interface between an unrestrained elastic half-space and a grounded layered half-space excited by an incident harmonic wave is investigated. The problem is formulated considering various possible boundary conditions and boundary inequalities at the sliding interface. The Coulomb friction model without distinction between the static and kinetic coefficients of friction is considered to govern the sliding condition. Three possible bands at the interface, namely slip, stick, and separation, are considered. The interface is assumed to be preloaded under normal and shear stresses. The solution is developed by modifying the problem of welded interface, which then is reduced to a set of algebraic equations. The effects of the incident angle, layer thickness, friction coefficient and externally applied stresses on the drift velocity of the unrestrained half-space are studied numerically for a pair of materials. It is shown that the sliding interface, and hence the drift velocity of unrestrained half-space is noticeably influenced by the layered medium. These results are expected to be useful for the development of a new kind of ultrasonic drive in future.  相似文献

The present paper is devoted to the study of finite inflation of a hyperelastic toroidal membrane on a cylindrical rim under uniform internal pressure. Both compliant and rigid frictionless rims have been considered. The compliant cylindrical rim is modeled as a linear distributed stiffness. The initial cross-section of the torus is assumed to be circular, and the membrane material is assumed to be a homogeneous and isotropic Mooney–Rivlin solid. The problem is formulated as a two point boundary value problem and solved using a shooting method by employing the Nelder–Meads search technique. The optimization function is constructed on a two (three) dimensional search space for the compliant cylinder (rigid cylinder). The effect of the inflation pressure, material properties and elastic properties of the rim on the state of stretch and stress, and on the geometry of the inflated torus have been studied, and some interesting results have been obtained. The stability of the inflated configurations in terms of occurrence of the impending wrinkling state in the membrane has also been studied.  相似文献

In this paper, the extended Lagrangian formulation for a one-dimensional continuous system with gyroscopic coupling and non-conservative fields has been developed. Using this formulation, the dynamics of an internally and externally damped rotor driven through a dissipative coupling has been studied. The invariance of the extended or so-called umbra-Lagrangian density is obtained through an extension of Noether’s theorem. The rotor shaft is modeled as a Rayleigh beam. The dynamic behavior of the rotor shaft is obtained and validated through simulation studies. Results show an interesting phenomenon of limiting behavior of the rotor shaft with internal damping beyond certain threshold speeds which are obtained theoretically and affirmed by simulations. It is further observed that there is entrainment of whirling speeds at natural frequencies of the rotor shaft primarily depending on the damping ratio.  相似文献

The concept of data depth leads to a center-outward ordering of multivariate data, and it has been effectively used for developing various data analytic tools. While different notions of depth were originally developed for finite dimensional data, there have been some recent attempts to develop depth functions for data in infinite dimensional spaces. In this paper, we consider some notions of depth in infinite dimensional spaces and study their properties under various stochastic models. Our analysis shows that some of the depth functions available in the literature have degenerate behaviour for some commonly used probability distributions in infinite dimensional spaces of sequences and functions. As a consequence, they are not very useful for the analysis of data satisfying such infinite dimensional probability models. However, some modified versions of those depth functions as well as an infinite dimensional extension of the spatial depth do not suffer from such degeneracy and can be conveniently used for analyzing infinite dimensional data.  相似文献

This paper revisits an extension of the Lagrangian-Hamiltonian mechanics that incorporates dissipative and non-potential fields, and non-integrable constraints in a compact form, such that one may obtain invariants of motion or possible invariant trajectories through an extension of Noether's theorem. A new concept of umbra-time has been introduced for this extension. This leads to a new form of equation, which is termed as the umbra-Lagrange's equation. The underlying variational principle, which is based on a recursive minimization of functionals, is presented. The introduction of the concept of umbra-time extends the classical manifold over which the system evolves. An extension of the Lagrangian-Hamiltonian mechanics over vector fields in this extended space has been presented. The idea of umbra time is then carried forward to propose the basic concept of umbra-Hamiltonian, which is used along with the extended Noether's theorem to provide an insight into the dynamics of systems with symmetries. Gauge functions for umbra-Lagrangian are also introduced. Extension of the Poincare-Cartan integral for the umbra-Lagrangian theory is also proposed, and its implications have been discussed. Several examples are presented to illustrate all these concepts.  相似文献

A wide range of non-linear effects are observed in piezoceramic materials. For small stresses and weak electric fields, piezoceramics are usually described by linearized constitutive equations around an operating point. However, typical non-linear vibration behavior is observed at weak electric fields near resonance frequency excitations of the piezoceramics. This non-linear behavior is observed in terms of a softening behavior and the decrease of normalized amplitude response with increase in excitation voltage. In this paper the authors have attempted to model this behavior using higher order cubic conservative and non-conservative terms in the constitutive equations. Two-dimensional kinematic relations are assumed, which satisfy the considered reduced set of constitutive relations. Hamilton's principle for the piezoelectric material is applied to obtain the non-linear equation of motion of the piezoceramic rectangular parallelepiped specimen, and the Ritz method is used to discretize it. The resulting equation of motion is solved using a perturbation technique. Linear and non-linear parameters for the model are identified. The results from the theoretical model and the experiments are compared. The non-linear effects described in this paper may have strong influence on the design of the devices, e.g. ultrasonic motors, which utilize the piezoceramics near the resonance frequency excitation.  相似文献

In this paper, the dynamics of a particle placed on a thin circular plate carrying circumferential harmonic travelling wave is studied. Coulomb friction is used to model the particle–surface interaction. Distinct regions on the plate surface are identified where either of the three phases of particle motion, namely jumping, sliding and sticking, occurs. Also, the effect of wave frequency and the plate geometry on these regions is studied. Interestingly, there exists an optimum plate thickness for which the region of sliding is maximum. At certain wave frequencies, from the numerical simulations within sticking and sliding regions, it is observed that the average particle motion spirals inwards towards the plate centre. Such an average motion is observed whenever the particle is placed initially with a zero velocity relative to the plate surface. The Gedanken experiments discussed herein provide cogent explanations to all the observed average (slow) dynamics and are also found to be useful in predicting the slow dynamics of the particle a priori, that is, before the actual numerical simulations. The particle’s velocity couples the radial and tangential sliding friction components and is found to be the key physical feature that explains the observed behaviour. Also, it is observed that the plate surface excited by circumferential travelling waves can provide acoustic lubrication to a particle by reducing the limiting force required to move it relative to the surface. The methods discussed in this paper can be extended to study the dynamics of a group of particles (granular materials) and extended rigid bodies, interacting with such surface waves.
