trans‐Diaquabis(3‐hydroxybenzoato‐κO1)bis(nicotinamide‐κN1)copper(II)

The title compound, [Cu(C₇H₅O₃)₂(C₆H₆N₂O)₂(H₂O)₂], is a two‐dimensional hydrogen‐bonded supramolecular complex. The Cu^II ion resides on a centre of symmetry and is in an octahedral coordination environment comprising two pyridine N atoms, two carboxylate O atoms and two O atoms from water molecules. Intermolecular N—H...O and O—H...O hydrogen bonds produce R₂²(4), R₂²(8) and R₂²(15) rings which lead to one‐dimensional polymeric chains. An extensive two‐dimensional network of N—H...O and O—H...O hydrogen bonds and C—H...π interactions are responsible for crystal stabilization.     

Wafer and epilayer improvement for integrated optics devices on InP: the ESPRIT project 2518

Ga _x In_1–x As _y P_1–y alloys lattice matched to InP substrates are currently used to fabricate optoelectronic and integrated optics devices. To achieve devices with high performances and high fabrication yield, the uniformity and reproducibility of the Ga _x In_1–x As _y P_1–y epitaxial layers (composition, thickness, doping, etc.) have become key parameters. These problems have been addressed in the frame of ESPRIT project 2518 and are presented in this paper. Several aspects have been considered starting from the optimization of InP substrates, the MOVPE growth of uniform GalnAsP layers, the material characterization to the validation of material uniformity on passive optical waveguides. Both scanning photoluminescence analysis and waveguide losses measurements performed on 2 inch wafers with a high lateral resolution have shown that high quality uniform GalnAsP layers can be obtained reproducibly on 2 InP substrates using a commercially available LP-MOCVD growth process. In particular, more than 60% of 36 mm long, 3m wide and 100m spaced rib waveguides exhibit losses below 0.8dBcm^–1.     

Synthesis of New Tandospirone Analogues Carrying 1-(3-(Trifluoromethyl)phenyl)piperazine

New tandospirone analogues containing a 1-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]piperazine (TFMPP) moiety have been synthesized by hydroarylation reactions with Pd(OAc)₂. The perhydroisoindole derivatives were obtained by the reaction of reduced starting material with aryl-(heteroaryl) iodides under the same conditions. Spiro-1,3-indandionolylpyrrolidine derivatives having an array of stereocenters are reported.     

Nanocomposites based on crosslinked polyacrylic latex/silver nanoparticles for waterborne high‐performance antibacterial coatings

Functional polymer/AgNPs nanocomposites have been prepared. Silver nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized to which polyacrylamide, PAAm, was covalently bound. PAAm was synthesized via a RAFT reaction and carried thiol and carboxylic acid end groups. Thiol was used to bind the polymer to the metal surface and carboxyl for further reactions. The AgNPs were used in a post‐crosslinking reaction with a separately synthesized poly(butyl acrylate‐co‐methyl methacrylate)/polyglycidyl methacrylate core/shell latex bearing epoxy functional groups. Dynamic mechanical analysis showed that the functional AgNPs effectively crosslinked the latex polymer, and that the final product had excellent mechanical strength. Antibacterial tests revealed that the nanocomposite films had strong antibacterial activity against all types of the bacteria and the immobilization of silver NPs by crosslinking retarded the release of silver in comparison to the uncrosslinked ones. With the presented method, it is possible to obtain ductile antibacterial nanocomposites to be used as waterborne functional coatings. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Inventory control and pricing for perishable products under age and price dependent stochastic demand

Multistage stochastic programming (SP) with both endogenous and exogenous uncertainties is a novel problem in which some uncertain parameters are decision-dependent and others are independent of decisions. The main difficulty of this problem is that nonanticipativity constraints (NACs) make up a significantly large constraint set, growing very fast with the number of scenarios and leading to an intractable model. Usually, a lot of these constraints are redundant and hence, identification and elimination of redundant NACs can cause a significant reduction in the problem size. Recently, a polynomial time algorithm has been proposed in the literature which is able to identify all redundant NACs in an SP problem with only endogenous uncertainty. In this paper, however, we extend the algorithm proposed in the literature and present a new method which is able to make the upper most possible reduction in the number of NACs in any SP with both exogenous and endogenous uncertain parameters. Proving the validity of this method is another innovation of this study. Computational results confirm that the proposed approach can significantly reduce the problem size within a reasonable computation time.     

Simultaneous spectrophotometric and liquid chromatographic determination of dextromethorphan hydrobromide,phenylephrine hydrochloride,and carbinoxamine maleate in pharmaceutical preparations

Simultaneous determination of dextromethorphan hydrobromide (DEX), phenylephrine hydrochloride (PHEN), and carbinoxamine maleate (CAR) in pharmaceutical preparations was performed by using liquid chromatograpy (LC) and spectrophotometry. In LC, the separation was achieved on a C18 column and the optimal mobile phase for satisfactory separation in a gradient elution program was found to be acetonitrile-sodium perchlorate solution (5: 95, v/v) initially, then a linear gradient up to 60% acetonitrile in 8 min. In spectrophotometric method, a chemometric technique, principal component regression (PCR), was used. In the method, the absorbance data matrix corresponding to the concentration data matrix was obtained by the measurement of absorbances in their zero order spectra by Δλ = 1 nm in the 210–300 nm range. Then, the calibration was obtained by using this data matrix for the prediction of unknown concentrations of DEX, PHEN, and CAR in their ternary mixture. The methods proposed were validated and successfully applied to a pharmaceutical preparation, capsule, and the results were compared.     

Synthesis and Properties of Thiophene and Dithiin Functionalized Tetrathiafulvalenes

Abstract

Syntheses of two analogues of tetrathiafulvalene (TTF), fused to 1,4-dithiin and thiophene rings, substituted with thiophene moieties, have been illustrated. The syntheses were accomplished through the reaction of a 1,8-diketone with phosphorus pentasulfide or Lawesson's reagent in boiling dry toluene. Conversion of the thioketones to their the oxo forms with mercury (II) acetate, was followed by self-coupling in freshly distilled boiling triethyl phosphite. Attempts for their electro-polymerizations through the thiophene groups at the peripherals were unsuccessful. Computational chemistry studies revealed that the thiophene groups did not exhibit enough spin densities to perform polymerization.
