The bacterial reduction of Cr(VI) from industrial wastewater was evaluated using a 2.0-m3 bioreactor. Liquid pineapple waste was used as a nutrient for the biofilm community formed inside the bioreactor. The use of rubber wood sawdust as packing material was able to immobilize more than 106?CFU?mL?1 of Acinetobacter haemolyticus cells after 3?days of contact time. Complete reduction of 15?C240?mg?L?1 of Cr(VI) was achieved even after 3?months of bioreactor operation. Cr(VI) was not detected in the final effluent fraction indicating complete removal of Cr from solution from the flocculation/coagulation step and the unlikely re-oxidation of Cr(III) into Cr(VI). Impatiens balsamina L. and Gomphrena globosa L. showed better growth in the presence of soil?Csludge mixture compared to Coleus scutellarioides (L.) Benth. Significant amounts of Cr accumulated at different sections of the plants indicate its potential application in Cr phytoremediation effort. The bacterial-based system was also determined not to be detrimental to human health based on the low levels of Cr detected in the hair and nail samples of the plant operators. Thus, it can be said that bacterial-based Cr(VI) treatment system is a feasible alternative to the conventional system especially for lower Cr(VI) concentrations, where sludge generated can be used as growth supplement for ornamental plant as well as not detrimental to the health of the workers.  相似文献

The development of an optical biosensor based on immobilization of 3-methyl-2-benzothiazolinone hydrazone (MBTH) in hybrid nafion/sol-gel silicate film and tyrosinase in chitosan film for the detection of phenolic compounds has been described. Tyrosinase was immobilized in chitosan film deposited on the hybrid nafion/sol-gel silicate film containing MBTH. The enzymatic oxidation product of phenolic compounds were stabilized through formation of adduct with MBTH to produce a maroon color adduct. The color intensity of adduct was found to increase proportionally with the increase of the substrate concentrations after 5 min exposure. The linearity of the biosensor towards phenol, catechol and m-cresol were in the respective concentration range of 0.5-7.0, 0.5-10.0 and 1.0-13.0 mg/L with detection limit of 0.18, 0.23 and 0.43 mg/L, respectively. The biosensor shows a good stability for at least 3 months.  相似文献

Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) produced by Streptomyces sp. H11809 exerted inhibitory activity against human GSK-3β (Hs GSK-3β) and Plasmodium falciparum 3D7 (Pf 3D7) malaria parasites. The current study aimed to determine DBP’s plausible mode of action against Hs GSK-3β and Pf 3D7. Molecular docking analysis indicated that DBP has a higher binding affinity to the substrate-binding site (pocket 2; −6.9 kcal/mol) than the ATP-binding site (pocket 1; −6.1 kcal/mol) of Hs GSK-3β. It was suggested that the esters of DBP play a pivotal role in the inhibition of Hs GSK-3β through the formation of hydrogen bonds with Arg96/Glu97 amino acid residues in pocket 2. Subsequently, an in vitro Hs GSK-3β enzymatic assay revealed that DBP inhibits the activity of Hs GSK-3β via mixed inhibition inhibitory mechanisms, with a moderate IC50 of 2.0 µM. Furthermore, the decrease in Km value with an increasing DBP concentration suggested that DBP favors binding on free Hs GSK-3β over its substrate-bound state. However, the antimalarial mode of action of DBP remains unknown since the generation of a Pf 3D7 DBP-resistant clone was not successful. Thus, the molecular target of DBP might be indispensable for Pf survival. We also identified nocardamine as another active compound from Streptomyces sp. H11809 chloroform extract. It showed potent antimalarial activity with an IC50 of 1.5 μM, which is ~10-fold more potent than DBP, but with no effect on Hs GSK-3β. The addition of ≥12.5 µM ferric ions into the Pf culture reduced nocardamine antimalarial activity by 90% under in vitro settings. Hence, the iron-chelating ability of nocardamine was shown to starve the parasites from their iron source, eventually inhibiting their growth.  相似文献

Two methods of differentiating between natural rubber and synthetic cis-1,4-polyisoprenes have been examined. Both techniques depend on the presence of Ziegler-Natta catalyst residues in the synthetic polymers. The major pyrolysis product of cis-1,4-polyisoprenes at 350°C is 1-methyl-4-(1-methylethenyl)cyclohexene. This can undergo disproportionation to yield 1-methyl-4-(1-methylethyl)benzene and methyl-(1-methylethyl)cyclohexenes. It is this disproportionation reaction, catalyzed by Ziegler-Natta catalyst residues or by carbon black, that is responsible for the different product ratios obtained on pyrolysis of natural rubber and Ziegler-Natta catalyzed cis-1,4-polyisoprenes. Lithium alkyl-polymerized polyisoprenes undergo this secondary disproportionation reaction only in the presence of carbon black. Derivative thermogravimetric traces of black-filled sulfur vulcanizates of natural rubber and synthetic polyisoprenes are significantly different because polymerization catalyst residues promote cyclization of the polymer.  相似文献

Measurements of the pressure dependence of the static dielectric constant of tellurite (pure TeO2 and 67%TeO2 + 33%WO3) and samarium phosphate (5%Sm2O3 + 95%P2O5 and 15%Sm2O3 + 85%P2O5) glasses at elevated pressures (0–70 kbar) for a range of temperatures (77–380 K) are reported. The electrical properties under pressure have been determined from the low-frequency complex plane analysis of glass discs contained within a Bridgman opposed anvil cell. The most notable observation is that the pressure dependence of the static dielectric constant, of all glasses studied, is positive, for example for vitreous TeO2 ln ε/P is equal to 4.41 × 10−11 (Pa−1) at 293 K. Behaviour of this type is common to a number of materials (plastics and chalcogenide glasses) for which it is not possible to define any long-range order. It is in direct contrast with the behaviour of crystalline insulators, for which ε/P is usually negative. The effect of pressure on the dielectric constant has been analysed using two different approaches based on the macroscopic Clausius-Mossotti equation. The effects of high pressure on the dielectric constant have been correlated with the temperature dependence of the dielectric constant at atmospheric pressure.  相似文献

Homogeneous (LiCl) x (P2O5)1 − x glasses were synthesised using a melt-quenching method for x = 0.1–0.6 in the interval of 0.05. The amorphous structure of the samples was evident by the X-ray diffraction spectrum. The short range structures of the binary phosphate samples were examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, whilst the density of the samples was measured as supportive data for the investigations. The results of refractive indices as measured using an ellipsometer reveal the homogeneity of samples and was found to depend on the glass composition. The electrical properties of the glasses were investigated by ac impedance spectroscopy from 10 mHz to 1 MHz for temperatures ranging from room temperature to 573 K. An estimation of the bulk resistivity was obtained by taking the intercepts on the real axis at low frequencies of the complex impedance plot. The dc conductivities derived from the reciprocal of resistivity values were found to obey the Arrhenius relationship, and its activation energy shows a decreasing trend with the increase in LiCl content in the glass. Lastly, an equivalent circuits consisting of real and complex capacitors is proposed to describe the dielectric response of the glass.  相似文献

A series of glasses [(TeO2) x (B2O3)1−x ]1−y [Ag2O] y with x = 70 and y = 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 mol% were synthesised by rapid quenching. Longitudinal and shear ultrasonic velocity were measured at room temperature and at 5 MHz frequency. Elastic properties, Poisson's ratio, microhardness, softening temperature and Debye temperature have been calculated from the measured density and ultrasonic velocity at room temperature. The experimental results indicate that the elastic constants depend upon the composition of the glasses and the role of the Ag2O inside the glass network is discussed. Estimated parameters based on Makishima–Mackenzie theory and bond compression model were calculated in order to analyse the experimental elastic moduli. Comparison between the experimental elastic moduli data obtained in the study and the calculated theoretically by the mentioned above models has been discussed.  相似文献

Homogeneous CaO-P2O5 and Cu2O-CaO-P2O5 glasses were prepared using a melt-quenched method under controlled conditions. The binary glasses were found to be colourless and transparent while the ternary glasses changed from light green to dark green as the Cu2O content increased. From the absorption edge studies, the values of the optical band gap, Eopt and Urbach energy, ΔE were evaluated. The position of the absorption edge and hence the optical band gap were found to depend on the glass composition. Analysis of the optical band gap shows that for the binary glasses, the value increases as the content of CaO decreases, while for the ternary glasses, the value of the optical band gap increases as the content of the Cu2O decreases. The density of the glasses was also measured and was found to increase with the increase in CaO and Cu2O contents.  相似文献
