Small clusters of toluene(n) (n = 1-8) were created in a supersonic expansion of toluene with argon as a carrier gas. Mass-selected resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization spectra of these clusters were recorded for each n. For the dimer, the appearance of the spectrum under warm and very cold conditions was studied. We discuss previous results in the light of the present spectra. For n>2, the spectra resemble very closely that of the dimer.  相似文献

We use density functional theory to investigate the surface chemistry of initial oxidation and hydroxylation of the Ge(100)-2 x 1 surface by water and hydrogen peroxide. Comparison of the reaction of water on the Si(100)-2 x 1 and Ge(100)-2 x 1 surfaces shows that the kinetics of oxidation of the Ge(100)-2 x 1 surface with water is slower. Our calculations also show that oxidation products on the Ge(100)-2 x 1 surface are less thermodynamically stable than on Si. We also investigate two competing dissociation reactions of H2O2 on the Ge(100)-2 x 1 surface. We find that dissociative adsorption via cleavage of the OH bond is less exothermic than OO dissociation. Furthermore, interdimer OO dissociation has a lower activation barrier than interdimer or intradimer OH dissociation, although interdimer dissociation products are found to be less stable compared than those formed from intradimer dissociation reactions. Finally, we find that the oxidation products formed from hydrogen peroxide are more stable than those formed from water.  相似文献

The reaction of ammonia (NH(3)) on the Ge(100)-2 x 1 surface is investigated using density functional theory (DFT). We find that NH(3) adsorbs molecularly onto Ge(100)-2 x 1 via the formation of a dative bond. The calculations also show that, unlike Si(100)-2 x 1, the activation barrier for subsequent dissociation of NH(3) adsorbed on Ge(100)-2 x 1 is higher than that of reversible desorption, which indicates that NH(3) has a low reactive sticking probability on the Ge(100)-2 x 1 surface. We also predict that nitrogen insertion into the Ge-Ge dimer requires NH(3) overexposure because the activation barrier for NH(2) insertion into the Ge-Ge dimer is significantly above the entrance channel. The nitridation reaction pathway results in the N-H bridge-bonded state, which is found to be 17.4 kcal/mol more stable than the reactants. We find that the reactions of NH(3) on the Ge(100)-2 x 1 surface generally involve higher activation barriers and less stable intermediates than the analogous reactions on the Si(100)-2 x 1 surface.  相似文献

The geometry relating to the tangent plane at a stationary point on a surface has been used to re-examine various criteria for the existence of parabolic points (inflexions in 2D-sections) on the outermost sheet of the slowness surface for elastic waves in anisotropic media.Previous results obtained by the authors, exact [4,5], and approximate [6], are related in detail. Further approximations, based on geometrical properties, are derived; one of these proves equivalent to a sufficient condition first applied by McCurdy [8].Numerical investigation shows that, over a wide range of anisotropy, the simply applied approximate criterion of [6] is sufficient and within the accuracy of observation of the elastic stiffnesses.  相似文献

Molecular core binding energies have been measured by ESCA for the homopolymers of ethylene and the fluoroethylenes. The data are interpreted in terms of semiempirical all-valence electron SCF MO calculations in the CNDO/2 formalism, in conjunction with the charge potential model. The results are used as a basis for interpreting the measured core binding energies of some Viton and Kel F type polymers. The routine application of ESCA to the determination of copolymer compositions is described.  相似文献

The X-ray absorption spectra at the molybdenum and selenium K-edges and the tungsten L2,3-edges are acquired for a set of 14 Mo(IV) and W(IV,VI) bis(dithiolene) complexes related to the active sites of molybdo- and tungstoenzymes. The set includes square pyramidal [MoIVL(S2C2Me2)2]- (L = O2-, R3SiO-, RO-, RS-, RSe-) and [WIV(OR)(S2C2Me2)2]-, distorted trigonal prismatic [MoIV(CO)(SeR)(S2C2Me2)2]- and [WIV(CO)L(S2C2Me2)2]- (L = RS-, RSe-), and distorted octahedral [WVIO(OR)(S2C2Me2)2]-. The dithiolene simulates the pterin-dithiolene cofactor ligand, and L represents a protein ligand. Bond lengths are determined by EXAFS analysis using the GNXAS protocol. Normalized edge spectra, non-phase-shift-corrected Fourier transforms, and EXAFS data and fits are presented. Bond lengths determined by EXAFS and X-ray crystallography agree to < or = 0.02 A as do the M-Se distances determined by both metal and selenium EXAFS. The complexes [MoIV(QR)(S2C2Me2)2]- simulate protein ligation by the DMSO reductase family of enzymes, including DMSO reductase itself (Q = O), dissimilatory nitrate reductase (Q = S), and formate dehydrogenase (Q = Se). Edge shifts of these complexes correlate with the ligand electronegativities. Terminal ligand binding is clearly distinguished in the presence of four Mo-S(dithiolene) interactions. Similarly, five-coordinate [ML(S2C2Me2)2]- and six-coordinate [M(CO)L(S2C2Me2)2]- are distinguishable by edge and EXAFS spectra. This study expands a previous XAS investigation of bis(dithiolene)metal(IV,V,VI) complexes (Musgrave, K. B.; Donahue, J. P.; Lorber, C.; Holm, R. H.; Hedman, B.; Hodgson, K. O. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1999, 121, 10297) by including a larger inventory of molecules with variant physiologically relevant terminal ligation. The previous and present XAS results should prove useful in characterizing and refining metric features and structures of enzyme sites.  相似文献

A combined experimental and theoretical study of a model system of multifunctional unsaturated ketones, including ethyl vinyl ketone (EVK), 2-cyclohexen-1-one, and 5-hexen-2-one, on the Si(100)-2 x 1 and Ge(100)-2 x 1 surfaces was performed in order to probe the factors controlling the competition and selectivity of organic reactions on clean semiconductor surfaces. Multiple internal reflection infrared spectroscopy data and density functional theory calculations indicate that EVK and 2-cyclohexen-1-one undergo selective [4 + 2] hetero-Diels-Alder and [4 + 2] trans cycloaddition reactions on the Ge(100)-2 x 1 surface at room temperature. In contrast, on the Si(100)-2 x 1 surface, evidence is seen for significant ene and possibly [2 + 2] C=O cycloaddition side products. The greater selectivity of these compounds on Ge(100) versus Si(100) is explained by differences between the two surfaces in both thermodynamic factors and kinetic factors. With 5-hexen-2-one, for which [4 + 2] cycloaddition is not possible, a small [2 + 2] C=C cycloaddition product is observed on Ge(100) and possibly Si(100), even though the [2 + 2] C=C transition state is calculated to be the highest barrier reaction by several kilocalories per mole. The results suggest that, due to the high reactivity of clean semiconductor surfaces, thermodynamic selectivity and control will play important roles in their selective functionalization, favoring the use of Ge for selective attachment of multifunctional organics.  相似文献

The charged particle multiplicity distributions for two-jet events ine + e ? annihilation at 29 GeV have been measured using the High Resolution Spectrometer at PEP. A Poisson distribution describes the data for both the complete event and for the single jets. In addition, no correlation is observed between the multiplicities in the two jets of an event. For fixed values of the prong number of the complete event, the multiplicity sharing between the two jets is in good agreement with a binomial distribution. The rapidity gap distribution is exponential with a slope equal to the mean rapidity density. These observations, which are consistent with a picture of independent emission of single particles, are contrasted to the results from soft hadronic collisions and conclusions are drawn about the nature of clusters.  相似文献

The nature of intramolecular charge transfer (CT) of N,N-diaryl dihydrophenazine photocatalysts (PCs) in different solvents is explored in context of their performance in organocatalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (O-ATRP). PCs having a computationally predicted lowest energy excited state exhibiting CT character can operate a highly controlled O-ATRP in a wide range of solvent polarities, from non-polar hexanes to highly polar N,N-dimethylacetamide. For PCs having a computationally predicted lowest energy excited state not possessing CT character, their ability to operate a controlled O-ATRP is decreased. This study confirms the importance of CT character in the excited state for N,N-diaryl dihydrophenazine PCs, and a deeper understanding of the activity of CT PCs has enabled the synthesis of polymers of low dispersity (<1.10) in a controlled fashion. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
