Gas-chromatographic analysis of alkylated derivatives of carane and of cycloheptane in capillary columns

The retention indices of synthesized alkyl derivatives of carane and of cycloheptane in capillary columns with tricresyl phosphate and squalane at 70°C have been determined. The influence of the structure of the hydrocarbons studied on the values of their retention parameters is considered. An estimate is given of the nature of the interrelationship between the physical properties of these hydrocarbons and their retention indices on a nonpolar stationary phase.     

Products of the catalytic liquid-phase oxidation of 3-carene

The liquid-phase oxidation of 3-carene in the presence of various catalytic systems has been studied. Preparative synthesis of veratraldehydeoxime esters

Synthesis and structure—aroma correlation of anisaldehyde oxime esters

Preparative syntheses from anisaldehyde 1 of the anti-isomer of anisaldehyde oxime 2 and anisaldehyde oxime esters 3a-q in 84-93% yields were developed. Synthesis of calone derivatives

Compounds that were promising as fragrances were prepared by a series of transformations at the carbonyl group of 7-methyl-2H-benzo[b][1,5]dioxepin-3(4H)-one.     

2-Carene in the Prins reaction

The Prins reaction of 2-carene with formaldehyde has been studied. The main reaction product is 2-hydroxymethyl-3-carene. The dehydration of 2-hydroxy-methyl-3-carene is accompanied by a skeletal rearrangement of the carane structure with the formation of products having a seven-membered ring.Institute of Physical Organic Chemistry, Belorussian SSR Academy of Sciences, Minsk. Esters of D,L-, D(+)-, and L(?)-camphor oximes were synthesized, and the correlation between their structure and odor was examined.     

Synthesis and Perfume Characteristics of Acetals Containing an Aromatic Ring

Aromatic acetals were prepared by condensation of 2-methyl-3-(4-R-phenyl)propanals (R = Me, i-Pr, i-Bu) with ethanol, methanol, ethylene glycol, 1,2-propanediol, methyl Cellosolve, and Cellosolve. The perfume characteristics of the acetals were studied.
