Rapid,Traceless, AgI‐Promoted Macrocyclization of Peptides Possessing an N‐Terminal Thioamide

Peptide macrocyclization is often a slow process, plagued by epimerization and cyclodimerization. Herein, we describe a new method for peptide macrocyclization employing the Ag^I‐promoted transformation of peptide thioamides. The Ag^I has a dual function: chemoselectively activating the thioamide and tethering the N‐terminal thioamide to the C‐terminal carboxylate. Extrusion of Ag₂S generates an isoimide intermediate, which undergoes acyl transfer to generate the native cyclic peptide, resulting in a rapid, traceless macrocylization process. Cyclic peptides are furnished in high yields within 1 hour, free of epimerization and cyclodimerization.     

Microwave-assisted Sinthesis of Thymyl Ethers and Esters in Aqueous Medium

Various thymyl ethers and esters have been synthesized by reactions of thymol with alkyl halides and acid chlorides, respectively, in aqueous medium under environmentally benign conditions using micro-wave irradiation. The products are important as potent pest managing agents.     

Synthesis and characterization of SPE membrane based on sulfonated FEP‐g‐acrylic acid by radiation induced graft copolymerization for PEM fuel cell

A Novel solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) membrane containing both ? COOH and ? SO₃H group has been prepared by simultaneous method of radiation grafting of acrylic acid onto FEP followed by sulfonation. The presence of weakly acidic acrylic acid controls the swelling in water while ? SO₃H group provides conductivity due to its strongly ionic characteristic. FEP‐g‐acrylic acid and its sulfonated derivatives were characterized by their properties. While the mechanical properties decreased, other properties such as ion exchange capacity (IEC), water uptake and ionic conductivity increased with increase in graft content. These properties further changed on sulfonation. Acrylic acid being weakly acidic in nature, conductivity values of the grafted membrane were quite low. However, introduction of strong ? SO₃H group resulted in conductivity closer to Nafion 117. Few sulfonated membranes have been tested with respect to H₂/O₂ fuel cell performance. Short‐term fuel cell test for 100 hr gave a stable performance. These membranes are less expensive compared to Nafion. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

One-Pot Synthesis and Fungicidal Activity of Pyrimidinylidenamido- and Thiazolinylidenamidomonothiophosphoric Esters

A novel one-pot synthesis of four new classes of amidothiophosphoric esters and trisamidothiophosphoric esters is developed. (1-Alkyl-2-pyrimidinylidenamido)bis(diethylamido)thiophosphates, (1-alkyl-2-pyrimidinylidenamido)bis (O-2/4-methylphenyl)thiophosphates, (3-alkyl-2-thiazolinylidenamido)bis (diethylamido)thiophosphate and (3-alkyl-2-thiazolinylidenamido)bis(O-2/4-methylphenyl)thiophosphates are obtained from the nucleophilic substitution and oxidation of N-alkyl-2-cycloiminylidenaminodichlorophosphines generated in situ from the reaction of the corresponding N-alkyl-2-aminocycloiminium halide with phosphorus trichloride and triethylamine. The synthesized thiophosphoric esters have been investigated for fungicidal properties.     

Fly‐Ash‐Supported Synthesis of 2‐Mercaptobenzothiazole Derivatives under Microwave Irradiation

Microwave‐assisted, solvent‐free alkylation and acylation of 2‐mercaptobenzothiazole has been attempted using silica gel, alumina, and a new solid support, fly ash. Fly ash, a waste generated at thermal power stations, could be used as solid support just as efficiently as commercial supports. The additional features of methodology include a much faster reaction, easy workup, higher yields, higher purity of the products, and an ecofriendly approach.     

Infrared Divergences in Light Front Field Theory and Coherent State Formalism

We discuss fermion self energy correction in light front QED using a coherent state basis. We show that if one uses coherent state basis instead of fock basis to calculate the transition matrix elements the true infrared divergences in δ m ² get canceled up to O(e ⁴). We show this in Light-front as well as in Feynman gauge.
