Copolymers of methyl methacrylate and 3-oximino-2-butanone methacrylate (OM) were investigated as deep-UV and e-beam resists. Their increased sensitivity relative to PMMA (up to 50 times) was correlated with the radiation chemical yields of the volatile products and main chain scissions. The degradation of these copolymers, activated by the 3-oximino-2-butanone entity, is discussed in terms of energy absorption mechanisms and the subsequent scission reactions.  相似文献

The volatile products from the γ irradiation of samples of poly(vinyl chloride) prepared under different conditions and reduced to the corresponding polyethylenes have been measured quantitatively and compared with those for low- and high-density polyethylenes and copolymers of ethylene with small amounts of α-olefins. The presence of methyl branches is clearly demonstrated and there is also evidence for ethyl and butyl branches, although these had not been considered significant in previous [13C] NMR studies. The method is shown to be extremely sensitive to small quantities of residual trialkyl tin hydride reductant occluded in, and possibly also reacted with, the polymer, and to residual chlorine (<0.5%). The yields of alkanes are higher than expected from the branch frequencies determined by i.r. and [13C] NMR and results for ethylene-α-olefin copolymers. This difference is apparently due to sensitisation of the radiation degradation by residual chlorine and reductant. Quantitative determinations of branch frequencies by the radiolytic method are unlikely to be obtained until these problems are overcome.  相似文献

Polystyrene of narrow molecular weight distribution, M w/M n ≈ 1.03, was subjected to γ irradiation at 100 and 150°C. The yields of scission and crosslinking, G(S) and G(X), where determined from the changes in molecular weight distribution using gel permeation chromatography, (GPC) with supporting evidence from osmometry and viscometry. The ratio G(S)/G(X) increased from 0.02 at 30°C, obtained previously, to 2.8 at 150°C. This was mainly due to a tenfold increase in G(S), whereas G(X) apparently decreased slightly. These results are compatible with increased disproportion of chain scission radicals relative to their combination, analogous to the temperature dependence of mutual termination in the free radical polymerization of styrene. There was no obvious discontinuity through the glass transition temperature, although there may be a change in sign of the temperature coefficient of G(X). This system provides an excellent example of the applicability of measurements of molecular weight distributions and averages to determinations of G(S) and G(X) under conditions when gel measurements are inappropriate, either because of the failure of the system to form gel, or, as in the present case, because of the very large radiation doses required for gel formation.  相似文献

The advantages of using diodes as thermal sensors in solution thermochemistry are discussed and a simple, low-cost circuit for the use of diodes as temperature sensors is reported. In preliminary studies, the titration of TRIS and hydrochloric acid is used to compare the precision of thermistors and diodes in thermometric titrimetry. Several systems are assayed at various temperatures by enthalpimetric methods to illustrate the advantages of diodes as sensors for monitoring thermal methods capable of being used in quality control system.  相似文献

The predominant degradation reaction in the γ-irradiation of nine poly(olefin sulfone)s was found to be C-S bond scission with elimination of SO2 and olefin. The extent of depolymerization, measured by the yields of the two comonomers, increased over five irradiation temperatures from 0 to 150° C and could be correlated with the ceiling temperature. Thus G (total volatile products) increased from 10 to 10,000 over this temperature range. Minor radiolysis products included the alkanes corresponding to (1) loss of the side chain group and (2) scavenging of the side chain radical by monomer olefin. There was a deficiency of olefin relative to SO2, except at high temperatures, and isomerization of the product olefin in some cases. These observations are attributed to reactions of radiation-induced polymeric cations.  相似文献

Liquid crystal displays had a humble beginning with wrist watches in the seventies. Continued research and development in this multi-disciplinary field have resulted in displays with increased size and complexity. After three decades of growth in performance, LCDs now offer a formidable challenge to the cathode ray tubes (CRT). A major contribution to the growth of LCD technology has come from the developments in addressing techniques used for driving matrix LCDs. There are several approaches like passive matrix addressing, active matrix addressing and plasma addressing to drive a matrix display. Passive matrix LCD has a simple construction and uses the intrinsic non-linear characteristic of the LCD for driving. Departure from conventional line by line addressing of a passive matrix has resulted in improved performance of the display. Orthogonal functions have played a crucial role in the development of passive matrix addressing. Simple orthogonal functions that are useful for driving a matrix LCD are introduced. The basics of driving several rows simultaneously (multi-line addressing) are discussed by drawing analogies from multiplexing in communication. The impact of multi-line addressing techniques on the performance of the passive matrix LCDs in comparison with the conventional technique will be discussed.  相似文献

γ-Irradiation of polyolefins produces small amounts of volatile hydrocarbons. Their yields have been measured for irradiation of homopolymers of ethylene and copolymers with propene, 1-butene and 1-hexene at temperatures from 30 to 175°C. The alkane distribution was characteristic for each type of polymer, and dependent on the frequency of the alkyl substituents. The distribution for a particular polymer was similar at all temperatures, although the yields of alkanes increased rapidly above 100°C. The yields of alkenes, which were mainly ethylene and butene, increased proportionately more rapidly from almost nil at 30°C. The ethylene yields from all the polymers fitted a common Arrhenius relationship with an activation energy of 40 kJ mol?1 and are attributed to radiation-induced thermal depolymerization. Detection of alkyl short branches in polyolefins is more sensitive at higher temperatures, but corrections for radiation-induced thermal degradation are more significant, whereas morphological differences can apparently affect the radiation sensitivities at 30°C.  相似文献
