Potentiometric studies of dithiooxamide with a sulphide-selective membrane electrode

The sulphide-selective electrode is applicable to the determination of dithiooxamide by titration with silver nitrate. The effect of the alkali content of the solutions on the reaction has been studied. The reaction products are silver sulphide, oxalic acid, and nitric acid. If the alkali concentration of the solution is lower than that equivalent to the acid formed during the titration, the amount of sulphide produced by hydrolysis decreases and the equilibrium potential is established more slowly.The determination is rapid and accurate in the presence of 1 M sodium hydroxide.     

Block copolymer containing poly(3‐hexylthiophene) and poly(4‐vinylpyridine): Synthesis and its interaction with CdSe quantum dots for hybrid organic applications

Poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(4‐vinylpyridine) diblock copolymer was synthesized by RAFT polymerization of 4‐vinyl pyridine using a trithiocarbonate‐terminated poly(3‐hexylthiophene) macro‐RAFT agent. The optoelectronic properties and the morphology of the block copolymer blends with CdSe quantum dots were investigated. UV‐vis and fluorescence experiments were performed to prove the charge transfer between CdSe and poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(4‐vinylpyridine) diblock copolymer. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Mountain pass theorem in the problem on a nontrivial solution of a quasilinear equation with a parameter

In the present paper, we consider a quasilinear elliptic equation with a parameter whose values lie in a neighborhood of an eigenvalue of the linear problem. To prove the existence of a nontrivial solution, we use a modification of the conditional mountain pass theorem.

High‐power HgGa2S4 optical parametric oscillator pumped at 1064 nm and operating at 100 Hz

The defect chalcopyrite crystal HgGa₂S₄ has been employed in a 1064‐nm pumped optical parametric oscillator operating at 100 Hz, to generate ∼5 ns long idler pulses near 4 µm with energies as high as 6.1 mJ and average power of 610 mW. At crystal dimensions comparable to those available for the commercial AgGaS₂ crystal, operation of the 1064‐nm pumped HgGa₂S₄ OPO is characterized by much lower pump threshold and higher conversion efficiency, with the most important consequence that such a device might become practical at pump levels sufficiently lower than the optical damage threshold.     

Physicochemical and electrochemical properties of sulfolane solutions of lithium salts

The physicochemical and electrochemical properties (electrical conductivity, viscosity, density, and electrochemical stability) of sulfolane solutions of various lithium salts are studied. The nature of the anion considerably affects the physicochemical and electrochemical properties of the electrolyte systems considered. Sulfolane solutions of lithium salts have moderate electrical conductivity and high electrochemical stability, and can be used as electrolytes in lithium batteries.     

Problem on multiple eigenvalues and positive eigenfunctions for a one-dimensional second-order quasilinear equation

We consider the eigenvalue and eigenfunction problem for a one-dimensional secondorder quasilinear differential equation. We analyze a number of versions of the function f specifying the nonlinearity for which the problem has multiple eigenvalues.     

Charge transfer interactions between nucleic acid bases and strong acceptors

The regularities of the donor-acceptor interaction of nucleic acid bases and some of their derivatives with the strong acceptor 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) in thin amorphous films at 77 K were studied using UV and visible spectroscopy. Purine and pyrimidine bases are shown to form charge transfer TCNQ complexes whose band energies hν_ct = I_p ? E_A ? (H* ? H⁰) are linearly dependent of the donor ionization potential I_p. Calculated differences between the interaction energies of uncharged molecules and ion radicals, ΔE ≈ 3.0 eV, are in good agreement with experimental variations of the complex dissociation energies in the ground and excited states, (H* ? H⁰) = 2.73 eV. Annealing of the films of complexes containing cytosine, 1-methylcytosine, uracil, and caffeine leads to ordering of their structure and the formation of ion radical salts.
