Synthesis of methyl[N-alkyl(aryl)aminomethyl]difurfuryloxy silanes and methyl[N-alkyl(aryl)aminomethyl]ditetrahydrofurfury loxysilanes

Transesterification of methyl[N-alky(aryl)aminomethyl]-diethoxysilanes with furfuryl and tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohols gives four new substituted furfuryloxysilanes and three new substituted tetrahydrofur-furyloxysilanes, with a secondary or tertiary amino group in the organic group. Some of the physical properties, as well as the IR spectra of the compounds, are given.

Instrument function of a broadband acoustic thermometric detector

The instrument function of a broadband (1.6–2.5 MHz) detector that is used in acoustic thermometry has been calculated. Experimental tests have proved that measured and computed results are in agreement. The effect of the pass band characteristics and the detector’s dimension on the instrument function has been studied as well as the effect that the instrument function has on an acoustic thermometric signal that is measured by the detector. The ratio of the wavelength (for the mean reception frequency) to the detector’s radius has been shown to be the main parameter that determines the acoustic thermometric signal at distances that are typical of acoustic thermometry. For problems of localizing a heated domain, it is optimal to locate the receiver at a distance of 15–25 mm from the domain. For example, for a detector 8 mm in diameter, the width of the instrument function at a level of 0.5 of the maximum is 1.2 ± 0.1 mm in this zone.     

Reaction of trifluoromethyl-containing enones with thiophenol derivatives

The reaction of trifluoromethyl-containing enones with thiophenol derivatives has been studied. Reactions with 4-methylthiophenol proceed with the formation of either ketosulfides or a pyran derivative. Comparison of Sensitivities of Semiconductor (HPGe) and Scintillation (CeBr<Subscript>3</Subscript>) Detectors in the Measurement of Gamma Spectra Induced by Neutrons in the Model of Planetary Soil

The results of neutron-activation measurements performed using the model of planetary soil and detectors based on high-purity germanium (HPGe) and cerium bromide (CeBr₃) are reported. Gamma lines lying in the energy range from 200 keV to 8 MeV are used as indicators to compare these two types of detectors in experiments with the model irradiated by 14-MeV neutrons from a pulse neutron generator. The results will aid the design of scientific instruments for the active neutron and gamma spectroscopy of planet surfaces in future Russian and international lander missions (Luna-Glob, Luna-Resurs, and ExoMars-2020).
