General application of jäntti's method for the fast calculation of sorption equilibrium

On the basis of a molecular model for adsorption kinetics Jäntti introduced a method to calculate equilibriums shortly after a change of the pressure of the sorptive gas. In the present paper we show that this method is useful in many more situations than those intended originally.     

Application of jäntti's method to volumetric adsorption measurements

Jäntti introduced a method to calculate the adsorption equilibrium by measuring the actual adsorbed amount three times after a change to the gas pressure. By this method the experimental time for adsorption measurement can be considerably shortened. The procedure was developed for use in adsorption measurements where the adsorbed masses are directly measured with a balance. In the present paper we will demonstrate that the method is particularly useful in volumetric (manometric) measurements.     

Estimation of the dimensions of nano-capillaries from gas adsorption data

A new approach is presented to determine the dimensions of cylindrical nanopores from adsorption measurements.     

Barkhausen noise in differential transformers

A treatment is presented of the Barkhausen noise in differential transformers in analogy to our noise calculations on fluxgate magnetometers. A numerical estimate is given which for practical situations leads to an accuracy limit of the order of 10^?10 m.     

Fundamental limits to the measurements of the gravitational constant G

An analysis is given of the limits set by the thermal noise to the accuracy of the measurements ofG with a torsion balance. The results are applied to measurements published recently. This shows that the uncertainty in modern measurements approaches the noise limit.     

Determination of isotropic and anisotropic knight shift in V3X compounds

Methods are described to determine the isotropic as well as the anisotropic part of the Knight shift from powdered samples of several V₃X compounds (V₃Co, V_77.5Ni_22.5, V₃Rh, V₃Pd, V₃Pt and V₃Ir). Measurements of the Knight shifts of the central line as well as the satellites prove to be necessary. The obtained values for K_iso are about 0.5% while K_ax is not larger than 0.03%.The influence of the X elements on the quadrupolar interaction frequency v_Q will be discussed.     

Weighing in liquid chromatography

A method is presented of measuring the force acting on a sample in the inhomogeneous part of the electronic field of a condensor. This paper describes a new method which is based upon the widely diverging values of the dielectric constants of most substances.     

Weighing with strain gauges

Weighing with strain gauges is shown to have some very attractive features. An analysis is given of the limitation of the sensitivity due to various noise sources. It is shown that it is possible to use strain gauge balances somewhat below the milligram region.
