Density functional and coupled cluster calculations show that facile thermal configuration change in [12]annulene occurs via a twist-coupled bond-shifting mechanism. The transition state for this process is highly aromatic with M?bius topology. At the CCSD(T)/cc-pVDZ//BH&HLYP/6-311+G** level, the isomerization of tri-trans-[12]annulene 1a (CTCTCT) to its di-trans isomer 2 (CCCTCT) via such a mechanism has a barrier of 18.0 kcal/mol, in good agreement with earlier experiments. Two other aromatic M?bius bond-shifting transition states were located that result in configuration change for other [12]annulene conformers. This mechanism contrasts sharply with diradical configuration change for acyclic polyenes and with planar bond-shifting mechanisms generally assumed for annulenes. This constitutes evidence that neutral M?bius aromatic annulenes play a role in the dynamic processes of neutral [4n]annulenes.  相似文献

Various aspects of our communication are well known to havechanged over time (1-3). This article describes a cross-sectional study that examined the acoustic characteristics of two groups of Australian women aged 18–25 years from recordings made in 1945 and 1993 and investigated the possible changes in the voice across generations. Archival recordings from 1945 which had been used in a longitudinal study (4) were compared to recordings made in 1993. The results of this study show that women in 1993 have significantly deeper voices than women of the same age recorded in 1945. The possible factors influencing this change are discussed.  相似文献

Dihydrothiazolo ring-fused 2-pyridones have previously been shown to inhibit pilus assembly in uropathogenic Escherichia coli. Methods have now been developed to synthesize both dihydroimidazolo and dihydrooxazolo ring-fused 2-pyridones. To obtain the nitrogen analogs, Cbz-protected imidazolines were reacted with an acyl-Meldrum's acid derivative under acidic conditions. To prepare the oxygen analogs, a one-pot procedure was developed that allowed synthesis of dihydrooxazolo ring-fused 2-pyridones starting from acylated serine derivatives. After hydrolysis to their corresponding carboxylic acids and lithium carboxylates, biological evaluation revealed that the sulfur could be replaced by an oxygen atom and still maintains the ability to inhibit pilus assembly in uropathogenic E. coli. However, introducing a secondary amine instead of oxygen resulted in a substantial decrease in biological activity.  相似文献

A novel method for covalent attachment of ultrathin silica films (thickness <10 nm) to gold substrates is reported. Silica layers were prepared using spin-coating of sol-gel precursor solutions onto gold substrates that were cleaned and oxidized using UV photo-oxidation in an ozone atmosphere. The gold oxide layer resulting from this process acts as a wetting control and adhesive agent for the ultrathin silica layer. Control of silica layer thickness between approximately 6 and 60 nm through modification of precursor solution composition or by repetitive deposition is demonstrated. Films were characterized using infrared spectroscopy, ellipsometry, atomic force microscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. For the standard deposition parameters developed here, films were determined to be 5.5 +/- 0.75 nm thick, and were stable in aqueous solutions ranging in pH from 2 to 10 for at least 30 min. The Stern-Volmer quenching constant (KSV) for quenching of anthracene fluorescence in sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelles by pyridinium chloride has been reported previously to be 520 M?1 based on steady state fluorescence measurements. However, such measurements cannot distinguish static versus dynamic contributions to the overall quenching. In the work reported here, the quenching dynamics of anthracene in SDS micelles by cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), an analogue of pyridinium chloride, were investigated using both steady state and time resolved fluorescence quenching. Concurrent measurement of the decrease in fluorescence intensity and lifetime of anthracene provide a quantitative evaluation of collision induced (i.e. dynamic) versus complex formation (i.e. static) quenching of the anthracene fluorophore. The results reveal that a combined quenching mechanism is operative with approximately equal constants of 249?±?6 M?1 and 225?±?12 M?1 for dynamic and static quenching, respectively.  相似文献

In accord with previous results on 1,5-hexadiene, CASSCF calculations found both stepwise and concerted pathways for the [3,?3] rearrangement. For the competing [3,?5] sigmatropic rearrangement, CASSCF and CASPT2 calculations revealed three stepwise pathways with similar barriers. UB3LYP and UM06-2X calculations predicted a different potential energy landscape: no stepwise [3,?3] pathway, only two competing [3,?5] sigmatropic shifts, and an intramolecular Diels-Alder cycloaddition/homolytic ring-opening pathway. Significant lowering of barriers for all rearrangements was predicted for some 1,3,7-octatrienes with substituents at the 4- and 7-positions.  相似文献
