Metabolites of the pathogenic fungusVerticillium dahliae III. The lipid composition ofVerticillium dahliae

Summary The compositions of the neutral lipids of the mycelium and of the culture liquid from the pathogenic fungusVerticillium dahliae Kleb. have been investigated for the first time. The fatty-acid compositions of the main lipid fractions and the glyceride composition of the triglyceride fraction have been determined. The main acids of all the fractions are the 16:0 and 18:1 acids and in the triglyceride fraction, additionally, the 18:2 acid. Diisobutyl phthalate has been found in the combined neutral lipids of the fungal mycelium.V. I. Metabolites of the pathogenic fungusVerticillium dahliae. XI. Primary structure of the polypeptide moiety of the phytotoxic pigment PKZh-1

The sequence of the 27 amino acid residues composing the polypeptide moiety of the phytotoxic metabolite PKZh-1 of the fungusV. dahliae has been determined on the basis of the structures of tryptic and chymotryptic peptides. It has been established that the linkage of the polypeptide with 2,5,7-trihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (flaviolin), which is the chromophoric moiety of PKZh-1, is effected through an ester bond formed by the carboxy group of the C-terminal amino acid and one of the hydroxy groups of flaviolin.     

Reaction of 5-bromo-2, 3′-dipyridyl with magnesium in the presence of ethyl bromide

5-Ethyl-2,3′-dipyridyl was obtained by the reaction of 5-bromo-2,3′-dipyridyl with magnesium in the presence of ethyl bromide. The yield of the Grignard reagent did not exceed 20%.

Ba1−x R x F2 + x Phases (R = Gd-Lu) with distorted fluorite-type structures—products of crystallization of incongruent melts in the BaF2-RF3 Systems (R = Gd-Lu). III. Defect Ba0.75Lu0.25F2.25 structure. A new {Lu8[Ba6F71]} supercluster of defects

The structure of Ba_0.75Lu_0.25F_2.25 crystals grown from melt has been studied by X-ray diffraction analysis (4729 measured reflections, 269 independent reflections with I > σ (I), R = 1.1%, R _w = 0.7%). The crystals are crystallized in the cubic system, sp. gr. Pm $\bar 3$ m, with the lattice parameter a = 5.9870(9) Å. A new complex of defects is singled out—a supercluster of the composition {R ₈[Ba₆F₇₁]}. This supercluster differs from the well-known rare earth octahedral supercluster of the composition {Ba₈[R ₆F_68-69]} because its nucleus is formed not by RE cations but by an alkali earth cation, Ba. The {R ₈[Ba₆F₇₁]} supercluster has a configuration close to that of the [B₁₄F₆₄] fragment of the fluorite structure and can replace the latter isomorphously. The model of the Ba_0.75Lu_0.25F_2.25 crystals consisting of coherently intergrown isostructural microphases having different chemical compositions is characterized by the good agreement of the calculated and experimentally determined occupancies of the F^1? positions. The comparison of the Ba_0.8Yb_0.2F_2.2 (phase studied earlier) and Ba_0.75Lu_0.25F_2.25 structures demonstrates the evolution of the defect structure along the series of rare earths with the corresponding change of the sp. gr. Fm $\bar 3$ m by the sp. gr. Pm $\bar 3$ m.     

Formation of RNA oligonucleotides over the mineral surface preliminary irradiated with UV light

An opportunity of the abiogenic formation of oligonucleotides over the surface of montmorillonite particles, preliminarily irradiated with UV light, was found upon the adsorption of mononucleotides on this surface. A probable mechanism of such a synthesis is suggested.
