A finely ground fibrillated cellulose was fractionated into separate size fractions. The characteristics of the smallest size fractions were studied, and the toxicity to humans was tested as part of a safety assessment. Morphological studies performed with state-of-the-art methods, such as scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy, showed that the fraction obtained consisted of long thin fibrils but also larger fibril agglomerates, and spherical particles were present. The finest fraction did not show any sub-lethal effects as assessed by RNA inhibition test in vitro, nor were there any indications of genotoxicity as tested by the Ames test in vitro. Systemic effects tested in vivo with the nematode were also absent. No cytotoxic effects were seen in the highest tolerated dose test in vitro, but some indication of cytotoxicity was observed in the total protein content test in vitro at the highest sample concentration. The significance of this toxicity test result should be addressed in relation to the other toxicity tests, in which no toxicity was observed, with special emphasis on the in vivo test. Given this, the overall toxicity analyses support the conclusion that nano-scale cellulose fibrils can be considered to be safe towards humans. However, the reason for the positive cytotoxicity test result and, in addition, the effect of the biocide used in sample preservation on the toxicity tests need to be clarified before generalizing these results and declaring nanocellulose to be unambiguously safe.  相似文献

The applications of SERS in therapeutic drug monitoring, or other fields of analytical chemistry, require the availability of sensitive sensors and experimental approaches that can be implemented in affordable ways. In this contribution, we show the production of cost-effective SERS sensors obtained by depositing Lee-Meisel Ag colloids on filter paper either by natural sedimentation or centrifugation. We have characterized the morphological and plasmonic features of the sensors by optical microscopy, SEM, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Such sensors can be used to quantify by SERS the anti-epileptic drug Perampanel (in the concentration range 1 × 10−4–5 × 10−6 M) by spinning them during the micro-Raman measurements on the top of a custom device obtained from spare part hard disk drives. This approach minimizes laser-induced heating effects and allows averaging over the spatial non-uniformity of the sensor.  相似文献

Layered singlet paired superconductors with disorder and broken time reversal symmetry are studied, demonstrating a phase diagram with charge-spin separation in transport. In terms of the average intergrain transmission and the interlayer tunneling we find quantum Hall phases with spin Hall coefficients of sigma(spin)(xy)=0,2 separated by a spin metal phase. We identify a spin metal-insulator localization exponent as well as a spin conductivity exponent of approximately 0.96. In the presence of a Zeeman term an additional sigma(spin)(xy)=1 phase appears.  相似文献

Silver and gold thin films were deposited by pulsed laser ablation in a controlled Ar atmosphere at pressures between 10 and 100 Pa. Different morphologies, ranging from isolated nanoparticle arrays up to nanostructured thin films were observed. Fast imaging of the plasma allowed deducing the expansion dynamics of the ablated plume. Plasma velocity and volume were used together with the measured average ablated mass per pulse as input parameters in a model to estimate the average size of nanoparticles grown in the plume. The nanoparticle size is expected to decrease from 4 nm down to 1 nm with decreasing Ar pressure between 100 and 10 Pa: this was confirmed by transmission electron micrographs which indicate a reduced dispersion of particle size over narrow size ranges. The production of substrates for surface enhanced Raman scattering whose performances critically depend on nanoparticle size, shape, and structure is discussed.  相似文献

We study dynamics of electrons in a magnetic field using a network model with two channels per link with random mixing, while the intrachannel potential is periodic (non-random); the channels represent two spin states. We consider channel mixing as function of the energy separation of the two extended states, and show that the phase diagram is different from the standard quantum Hall diagram for random intrachannel potential.  相似文献

The soliton lattice solution of the continuum model for polyacetylene is used to derive the frequency dependent conductivity of charged solitons. The limit of low soliton density is explicitly evaluated and shown to be free of singularities. The conductivity sum rule is proven for the model Hamiltonian, and is shown to be satisfied by the explicit solution. Implications for polyacetylene and for TTF-TCNQ are discussed.  相似文献

The observed phase transitions in Tetrathiafulvalene-Tetracyanoquinodimethane (TTF-TCNQ) are discussed using a simple model for the interchain coupling of charge density waves. Estimates based on Coulomb energies show that for 38 K < T < 49 K the components qx=πa + q′x and qz of the wave vector associated with the charge density wave satisfy qzcq′xa?0.1, with q′xa~(T2 ? T)12 and T2 = 49 K. A possible mechanism for the first order transition at 38 K is proposed. The results are compared with neutron and X-ray scattering and with isotope shifts of the transition temperatures.  相似文献

A charge density wave system near commensurability and with strong damping is considered, as a model for NbSe3. The observed threshold field is associated with depinning of a commensurate part of the charge density, while the excess charge, in form of phase kinks, contributes just to the ohmic conductivity. The characteristic length associated with the frequency generation is one lattice constant.  相似文献
