Palladium(II) complexes of aliphatic amines and their oxidation by chloramine‐T in perchloric acid medium

The formation of palladium(II) complexes with aliphatic amines and their oxidation by chloramine‐T in perchloric acid medium has been studied. The spectrophotometric studies showed the formation of 1:1 and 1:2 complexes between palladium(II) and amine in absence of HClO₄. An increase in [HClO₄] in reaction mixture suppresses the complex formation and in presence of [HClO₄] ～10^?3 mol dm^?3 only a 1:1 complex between palladium(II) and amine has been observed. The effect of Cl^? on the complex formation has also been studied. Palladium(II)‐catalyzed oxidation of these amines by chloramine‐T showed a first‐order dependence of rate with respect to each—oxidant, substrate, catalyst, and H⁺. The mechanism consistent with kinetic data for the oxidation process has been proposed in absence as well as in presence of initial [Cl^?]. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. High-order one-step P-stable methods for the numerical integration of periodic initial value problems

Using Lobatto nodes, one-step methods of order six and eight have been obtained for the second-order differential equation y″ = f(x, y), y(x₀) = y₀, y′(x₀) = y′₀. The methods are shown to be P-stable. If

, then at each integration step a system of dimension 3s, 4s, respectively, has to be solved. The numerical results, for two problems, obtained by using these methods are given in the end.     

Error bounds for the clenshaw-curtis quadrature formulas

Davis' method is employed to obtain bounds on the errors of the Clenshaw-Curtis quadrature schemes based on practical as well as classical abscissas. Also, bounds are obtained on the error of the Gauss-Legendre cubature formula applied to analytic functions.     

Optimal quadrature formulas

The problem of finding optimal quadrature formulas of given precision which minimize the sum of the absolute values of the quadrature weights is discussed and some optimal predictor and corrector type quadrature formulas are listed. Alternative derivation of minimum variance and Sard's optimal quadrature formulas is also given.     

Platinum(IV) complexes of reducing sugars in an alkaline medium and their resistance to reaction with N-bromosuccinimide. A kinetic study

Spectrophotometric studies support the formation of { Pt^IV–S} (where S = glucose, galactose and fructose) complexes in an alkaline medium. The resistance of these complexes to reaction with N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) has been observed. The kinetic data also support the formation of { Pt^IV –S} complexes.     

The capacities of certain special channels with arbitrarily varying channel probability functions

In [5] Ahlswede and Wolfowitz have obtained the capacities of a.v.ch. with binary output in a number of cases, essentially with the aid of a lemma which relates the capacity of the a.v.ch. to that of a suitable (“underlying”) d.m.c. A generalization of this lemma to a special kind of a.v.ch. with output alphabet b>2, has been given by Ahlswede (Lemma 1 of [1]) and used in [1] and [2] to prove the existence of the weak capacities of various channels under different conditions. We give a detailed proof of a weakened version of Ahlswede's lemma and show, in passing, that his lemma is incorrect. We then define certain special types of a.v.ch and, on the basis of the detailed analysis given by us earlier, we prove lemmas of a similar type for these a.v.ch. We are thus able to extend certain results given for binary output a.v.ch. in [4] and [5] to these special a.v.ch. for which b>2.     

Photocatalytic CdSe QDs-decorated ZnO nanotubes: an effective photoelectrode for splitting water

Arrays of ZnO nanorods (NRs) were successfully converted into nanotubes (NTs), used as photoelectrodes in photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells after their sensitization with CdSe quantum dots (QDs) and a strong correlation between the PEC performance and geometrical structure of ZnO NTs@CdSe(QDs) and ZnO NRs@CdSe(QDs) was established under the same conditions.     

Error bounds for a Chebyshev quadrature scheme

Davis' method is used to obtain a derivative free bound on the error of a Cheby-shev quadrature scheme proposed by Filippi [1].     

Inhibition of TX‐100 on the Rate of Hexacyanoferrate(III) Oxidation of Reducing Sugars: A Kinetic Study

An inhibition effect of nonionic micelles (polyoxyethylene (10) octyl phenol, commonly known as TX‐100) on the rate of oxidation of the reducing sugars, fructose, glucose, and maltose by alkaline hexacyanoferrate(III) has been observed. The kinetic data support a 1:1 association/binding between substrate and micelles. The binding constant and free energy transfer from water to micelle have been determined.
