The quenching process of fluorescence emission in polyfluorene (PF) due to the presence of intramolecular 9-fluorenone (9 FL) moieties is studied in dilute toluene solution as a function of 9 FL content in eight copolymers containing both fluorene and fluorenone units (PF/FL(x)). The absorption spectrum of PF/FL(x) copolymers clearly shows a new absorption band, redshifted relatively to the PF and 9-fluorenone absorption, which increases in intensity when the fluorenone fraction increases and also decreases with solvent polarity. Fluorescence emission spectra of PF/FL(x) show that this redshifted and unstructured emission does not coincide with the 9-fluorenone emission and, with increasing solvent polarity, it further redshifts and decreases in intensity. An isoemissive point is clearly observed on the fluorescence emission spectra of PF/FL(x) as a function of fluorenone content, showing that the new emission band is formed at the expense of PF. We propose the formation of an intramolecular charge transfer complex (ICTC) between PF units and 9-fluorenone to explain the appearance of the new emission band. Global analysis of time resolved fluorescence decays collected at 415 nm (PF emission) and 580 nm (the ICTC emission) show that three exponentials are generally needed to achieve excellent fits. Two of the components (420 ps and 6.5 ns) are independent of 9-fluorenone fraction. A further fast component is strongly dependent on fluorenone fraction and ranges between 280 and 70 ps. This component appears as a decay time at 415 nm and as a rise time at 580 nm and is ascribed to the migration of exciton to quenching sites (formation of intramolecular CT complex or exciton ionization at CT complex). A kinetic mechanism involving three different kinetic species, quenched PF units kinetically coupled with the ICTC complex, and unquenched PF units is proposed to explain the experimental data and the quenching rate constant is obtained, k(1) congruent with 10(11) s(-1). This is an experimental measurement of the intrachain exciton hopping rate.  相似文献

Summary A new method for the measurement of sulphuric acid in airborne particulates is described. Sulphuric acid present is separated from the sample matrix by microdiffusion at 200°. The separated sulphuric acid is absorbed in sodium hydroxide, and titrated by barium perchlorate.

A carbazole homopolymer and carbazole copolymers based on 9,9'-dialkyl-[3,3']-bicarbazolyl, 2,5-diphenyl-[1,3,4]-oxadiazole and 9,9-bis(4-[3,7-dimethyloctyloxy]phenyl)fluorene were synthesized and their electrical and photophysical properties were characterized with respect to their application as host in phosphorescent polymer light-emitting diodes. It is shown that the triplet energy of a polymer depends on the specific connections between its building blocks. Without changing the composition of the polymer, its triplet energy can be increased from 2.3 to 2.6 eV by changing the way in which the different building blocks are coupled together. For poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK), a carbazole polymer often used as host for high-energy triplet emitters in polymer light-emitting diodes, a large hole-injection barrier of about 1 eV exists due to the low-lying HOMO level of PVK. For all carbazole polymers presented here, the HOMO levels are much closer to the Fermi level of a commonly used anode such as ITO and/or a commonly used hole-injection layer such as PEDOT:PSS. This makes high current densities and consequently high luminance levels possible at moderate applied voltages in polymer light-emitting diodes. A double-layer polymer light-emitting diode is constructed comprising a PEDOT:PSS layer as hole-injection layer and a carbazole-oxadiazole copolymer doped with a green triplet emitter as emissive layer that shows an efficacy of 23 cd/A independent of current density and light output.  相似文献

The lowest triplet state of tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminium(III) (Alq3) has been prepared by pulse radiolysis/energy transfer from appropriate donors in benzene solutions and has an absorption maximum around 510 nm with a lifetime of about 50 mus. It is quenched by molecular oxygen, leading to singlet oxygen formation. From flash photolysis and singlet oxygen formation measurements, a quantum yield of triplet formation of 0.24 was determined for direct photolysis of the complex. A value of 2.10 +/- 0.10 eV was determined for the energy of the lowest triplet state by energy transfer studies and was confirmed by phosphorescence measurements on Alq3, either in the heavy atom solvent ethyl iodide or photosensitized by benzophenone in benzene. Dexter (exchange) energy transfer was observed from triplet Alq3 to platinum(II) octaethylporphyrin.  相似文献

We report studies of spin dynamics in the conducting polymers polyaniline and polypyrrole using both μ+SR and μ-SR techniques. These measurements reveal characteristic field dependences and cutoff frequencies for the muon spin relaxation which can be related to the spin diffusion process. Clear evidence is seen for increased spin localisation at low temperatures where a crossover occurs from two or three dimensional spin diffusion to a one dimensional diffusion regime. Steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence have been used to investigate the optical properties of bilayer and blend films made from poly(9,9-dioctyl-fluorene-2,7-diyl) (PFO) and poly[2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH PPV). Energy transfer has been observed in both systems. From steady-state photoluminescence measurements, the energy transfer was characterized by the effective enhancement of the MEH PPV emission intensity after exciting the donor states. Relatively faster decays for the PFO donor emission have been observed in the blends as well as in the bilayer structures, confirming effective energy transfer in both structures. In contrast to the bilayers, the time decay of the acceptor emission in the blends presents a long decay component, which was assigned to the exciplex formation in these samples. For the blends the acceptor emission is in fact a composition of exciplex and MEH PPV emissions, the later being due to Fo?rster energy transfer from PFO. In the bilayers, the exciplex is not observed and temperature dependence photoluminescence measurements show that exciton migration has no significant contribution to the energy transfer. The efficiency and very long range of the energy transfer in the bilayers is explained assuming a surface-surface interaction geometry where the donor/acceptor distances involved are much longer than the common Fo?rster radius.  相似文献

In this Article, we study the development of semiconductor nanocrystals (quantum dots of average diameter less than 2 nm) directly conjugated to a transporter protein human serum albumin (HSA) as fluorescent biological labels. F?rster resonance energy transfer (FRET) from the amino acid tryptophan (Trp214) to quantum dot in HSA is monitored to follow the local and global changes in the protein structure during thermal unfolding and refolding processes. Measurement of the quantum yield of triplet formation has been made for the prototypical conjugated polymer polyspirobifluorene in solution and solid state. An updated method has been described based on femtosecond time resolved ground state recovery following photoexcitation of the polymer. The two components to the recovery of the ground state due to the decay of the singlet and triplet excited states are clearly visible and from these it is possible to calculate Phi(T)=0.05+/-0.01 in solution, this gives k(isc)=5.4 x 10(7) s(-1) which compares favorably with other conjugated polymers. In polymer films an increased triplet yield of Phi(T)=0.12+/-0.02 is found to be independent of temperature, the increased yield is attributed to triplet recombination from charged states.  相似文献

Phosphorescent copper(I) complexes carrying 2,2'-bipyridyl derivatives and phosphine ligands have been prepared and fully characterised. The role of the bipyridyl as well as the phosphine ligands in defining the optical, as well as the chemical properties of the complexes, are discussed. The light emission of these complexes is investigated as a function of the molecular geometry: rigid complexes with restricted freedom to rearrange in the excited state are found to show a quantum yield of phosphorescence one order of magnitude higher than those complexes with no steric constraint. The complexes have been extruded in a polymer matrix as a proof of principle of their processability.  相似文献
