Synthesis of Highly Functionalized Isoxazolinediones from One-pot Reaction of Alkylidene Meldrum ’s Acid with Alkyl Isocyanides in the Presence of Arylhydroxylamines

Alkyl isocyanides undergo a smooth reaction with alkylidene Meldrum’s acids in the presence of arylhydroxylamines to produce N ¹-alkyl-2-(3,5-dioxo-2-aryltetrahydro-4-isoxazolyl)alkanamides in high yields.     

An Efficient Method for the Synthesis of 3-Cyano-6-hydroxy-2(1H)-pyridinones under Microwave Irradiation and Solvent-free Conditions

Summary. Three component condensation of alkylacetoacetates, primary amines, and alkyl cyanoacetates catalyzed by solid supports under microwave irradiation gave N-alkyl 3-cyano-6-hydroxy-2(1H)-pyridinones with high yields. Upon carrying out the reaction under the same condition on acidic alumina, zeolite HY, silica gel, and montmorillonite K-10, the best yields were achieved by silica gel. Corresponding author. Isolating the most recent entry in a random recursive tree by random cuts

A recursive tree is constructed by starting with a root node and repeatedly adjoining new nodes to one node of the tree already constructed. Such a tree can represent, for example, the heirarchy of a workforce of a company that grows via recruiting. At times of economic depression, the company may decide to lay off participants, and in some cases it is a fair policy to relieve the last senior worker (most recent entry in the tree). If we remove an edge from such a tree then it falls into two subtrees one of which contains the most recent entry. If we continue to remove edges from the successively smaller subtrees that contain the most recent entry, we eventually isolate the most recent entry. We consider how many randomly selected edges must be removed in average before isolating the most recent entry by this procedure.     

The use of Nafion-H® as an efficient catalyst for the direct conversion of primary and secondary trimethylsilyl ethers to their corresponding ethers under mild and heterogeneous conditions

Primary and secondary trimethylsilyl ethers were converted to their corresponding ethers in the presence Nafion-H® with good to excellent yields under mild and heterogeneous conditions.     

Urea- hydrogen peroxide (UHP) oxidation of thiols to the corresponding disulfides promoted by maleic anhydride as mediator

Urea-hydrogen peroxide (UHP) was used in the presence of maleic anhydride as mediator in a simple and convenient method for the oxidation in high yield of some thiols to the corresponding disulfides. Peroxymaleic acid formed in situ from the reaction of UHP with maleic anhydride has a key role in this oxidation. Performance of the reaction in various solvents showed that methanol was the solvent of choice at 0 oC. The products were isolated by simple filtration on silica gel.     

Efficient One-Step Conversion of Tetrahydropyranyl Ethers into Acetates and Formates in the Presence of Potassium Dodecatungstocobaltate K<Subscript>5</Subscript>CoW<Subscript>12</Subscript>O<Subscript>40</Subscript> · 3H<Subscript>2</Subscript>O

Tetrahydropyranyl ethers derived from primary alcohols were directly and efficiently converted into the corresponding acetates and formates by the action of ethyl acetate, acetic acid, acetic anhydride, and ethyl formate in the presence of a catalytic amount of potassium dodecatungstocobaltate K₅CoW₁₂O₄₀ · 3H₂O. Chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oils of Ferula latisecta and Mozaffariania insignis from Iran

The hydrodistilled oils from the aerial parts of Ferula latisecta and Mozaffariania insignis, which is endemic to Iran, were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. (Z)-Ocimenone (32.4%), (E)-ocimenone (20.3%), and cis-pinocarvone (11.4%) were the main components among the 22 constituents characterized in the oil of F. latisecta, representing 87.7% of the total components detected. Twenty-five compounds were identified in the oil of M. insignis, representing 99.0% of the total oil, with octyl acetate (41.1%), β-pinene (30.3%), and α-pinene (23.9%) as the main constituents. Preparation of Fe3O4@5,10‐dihydropyrido[2,3‐b]quinoxaline‐7,8‐diol copper complex: A capable nanocatalyst for the green synthesis of 1‐substituted 1H‐tetrazoles

Fe₃O₄ magnetic nanoparticles functionalized with 5,10‐dihydropyrido[2,3‐b]quinoxaline‐7,8‐diol were synthesized as was their complex with copper as a novel nanomagnetic iron oxide catalyst via a simple and green method, and characterized using various techniques. The capability of the catalyst was evaluated in the one‐pot three‐component synthesis of different tetrazoles, which showed very good results. Mild reaction conditions, good reusability and simple magnetic work‐up make this methodology interesting for the efficient synthesis of tetrazoles.
