Pseudo-spin as a relativistic symmetry

The existence of broken pseudo-spin symmetry in the Pb nucleus has been studied in the relativistic mean field approach using realistic Lagrangian parameters. Its relationship to spin orbit splitting and the vanishingly small surface delta character of the mean spin orbit potential are investigated. In the ²⁰⁸Pb nucleus the broken pseudo-spin doublets are found to exist above the neutron (proton) Fermi surfaces. Received: 16 April 1998 / Revised version: 26 June 1998     

Current-less photoreactivity catalyzed by functionalized AFM tips

A spatially confined photocatalytic oxidation of a thin film of synthetic textile azo dye (Procion Red MX-5B) using TiO2-functionalized AFM probes is described.     

Effect of heavy quark symmetry on the mass difference ofB-system in minimal left right symmetric model

An estimation of the mass difference of system with heavy quark symmetry formalism is presented. The effective Hamiltonian describing the transition (whereh=b forB _d ⁰ -system) is considered in a manifest left right symmetric (MLRS) model along with contribution from neutral Higgs boson. We use the spin and flavor symmetry for heavy quarks to obtain the transition matrix element 〈B _d ⁰ |ℋ_eff(x)| _d ⁰ 〉 in terms of Isgur-Wise function. Assuming thatB _d ⁰ and states are at rest, we find that Isgur-Wise function turns out to be unity. However using the experimental values of ΔM _K and as input, we find thatM _R=835 GeV andM _H⩾2·9 TeV.     

Controlling diffusion in sol-gel derived monoliths

Redox probes were trapped within a silica monolith prepared in part with organoalkoxysilanes containing a quaternary ammonium functional group. The diffusion coefficients of the entrapped molecules were measured as the gels were slowly dried using chronoamperometry and cyclic voltammetry with ultramicroelectrodes. Gel-entrapped cobalt(II) tris(bipyridine) (Co(bpy)(3)(2+)) diffuses at rates similar to that measured in the sols by incorporating a small amount of the positively charged functional group in the matrix. In comparison, the diffusion coefficient of gel-entrapped ferricyanide (Fe(CN)(6)(3-)) drops an order of magnitude relative to its value in the sol soon after gelation. These results demonstrate the ease at which diffusion in hydrated gels can be easily controlled by simply changing the charge on the walls of the silica host.     

Krichever-Novikov global operator formalism: NSR superstring in curved background

The Neveu-Schwarz-Ramond type II closed superstring is considered to evolve in a curved space-time manifold. The Krichever-Novikov global operator formalism is used to construct the generators of a super-conformal algebra on a Riemann surface . The computation for the quantum algebra of these generators is explicitly presented. It is shown that the theory is free from super-conformal anomalies if the target manifold is ten dimensional and satisfies the Ricci flatness condition.     

Polymerization of lactide and synthesis of block copolymer catalyzed by copper(Ⅱ) Schiff base complex

In the present investigation, the novel copper Schiff base complex was synthesized and its catalytic activity was evaluated for the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of lactide and block polymerization of poly(lactide) with poly(ethylene glycol)methyl ether.     

Conductimetric immunosensor based on poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)

A conductimetric reagentless immunosensor using the biospecific binding pair of goat antirabbit IgG and rabbit IgG has been designed and fabricated using poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) as the immobilization matrix-cumtransducer.
