Novel model of FM-noise conversion in a UMZI using RF external phase modulation of lasers: Theoretical and experimental results

In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a new and original model for theoretical calculation and experimental measurement of the noise power spectral density (NPSD) in phase-modulated optical links. The phase modulation is operated in the RF frequency range by an external phase modulator. The NPSD is derived for the first time in interferometric systems, by considering all effects such as the 1/f FM noise of the laser and white noise applied to light from a 1550 nm DFB laser, with phase modulation. The results show for the first time the influence of the phase modulation index, modulation frequency and interferometric delay in the phase-to-intensity noise conversion. The experimental and simulation results of conversion of FM-noise to intensity noise in an optical link by considering the external RF phase modulation are shown with good agreement.     

Duality and the cosmological constant

A dynamical theory is studied in which a scalar field ϕ in Einstein-Minkowski space is coupled to the four-velocityN _μ of a preferred inertial observer in that space. As a consistent requirement on this coupling we study a principle of duality invariance of the dynamical mass term of ϕ at some universal length in the small-distance regime. In the large-distance regime duality breaking can be introduced by giving a background value to ϕ and a background direction toN _μ. It is shown that, in an appropriate approximation, duality breaking can be related to the emergence of a characteristic phase in which the condensation of the ground state allows massive excitations with a characteristic scale of squared mass which agrees with the present observational bound for the cosmological constant.     

Conformal Invariance and Gravitational Coupling in Quantum Field Theory

We study the quantum constraints of a conformalinvariant action for a scalar field. For this purpose webriefly present a reformulation of the duality principleadvanced earlier in the context of generally covariant quantum field theory, and apply it toexamine the finite structure of the quantum constraints.This structure is shown to admit a dimensional coupling(a coupling mediated by a dimensional coupling parameter) of states to gravity. Invariancebreaking is introduced by defining a preferredconfiguration of dynamical variables in terms of thelargescale characteristics of the universe. In thisconfiguration a close relationship between the quantumconstraints and the Einstein equations isestablished.     

Iodine‐Catalyzed Friedlander Quinoline Synthesis under Solvent‐Free Conditions

Polyfunctional quinolines were synthesized using Friedlander method catalyzed by molecular iodine in high yields at 60 °C under solvent‐free conditions.     

Oxidative Deprotection of Cyclic Acetals and Trimethylsilyl Ethers by γγ-Picolinium Chlorochromate Under Nonaqueous Conditions

Deprotection of cyclic acetals and oxidative desilylation of trimethylsilyl ethers into the corresponding carbonyl compounds with -picolinium chlorochromate (-PCC) under nonaqueous conditions at room temperature is described. Oxidation of aldehydes to carboxylic acids was not observed in any case.     

Diammonium Hydrogen Phosphate as an Efficient and Inexpensive Catalyst for the Synthesis of Bis(indolyl)methanes under Solvent-Free Conditions

Bis(indolyl)methanes were synthesized by the reaction of indole derivatives and aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes in the presence of diammonium hydrogen phosphate as a solid catalyst under solvent-free conditions. This methodology offers significant improvements for the synthesis of bis(indolyl)methanes with regard to the yield of products, simplicity in operation, and green aspects by avoiding toxic catalysts and solvents.     

Efficient and eco-friendly synthesis of dihydropyrimidinones, bis(indolyl)methanes, and N-alkyl and N-arylimides in ionic liquids

Dihydropyrimidinones, bis(indolyl)methanes, and N-alkyl and N-arylimides were synthesized efficiently under mild reaction conditions in the presence of two types of ionic liquids. In each section, effects of different ILs on the yield of reactions were investigated. The use of ionic liquids offer improvements for the synthesis of title compounds with regard to the yield of products, simplicity in operation, short reaction times and green aspects by avoiding toxic catalyst and organic solvents.     

A new approach to the facile synthesis of mono- and disubstituted quinazolin-4(3H)-ones under solvent-free conditions

Quinazolin-4(3H)-one derivatives were synthesized successfully via a one-pot, three component reaction of isatoic anhydride and an orthoester with ammonium acetate or a primary amine catalyzed by silica sulfuric acid under solvent-free conditions. This is the first report on the synthesis of 2-substituted quinazolin-4(3H)-ones by this procedure.     

Zein film as a novel natural biopolymer membrane in electrochemical detections

Permselective modifier films are very important in preparing highly sensitive electrochemical sensors. In this work, for the first time, the behavior of gold and glassy carbon electrodes coated with biocompatible zein film as a permselective membrane for the electrochemical detection of various compounds has been investigated. For this purpose, several electroactive cationic (methylene blue, brilliant green, and thionine) and anionic (potassium ferricyanide, alizarin red S, and riboflavin-5’-phosphate) compounds have been used as model. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that zein membranes prepared from casting solution containing 1% zein in ethanol/water have porous structures with high nanometric roughness. The capacitance values of electrical double layers of electrodes modified with zein film were very high for hydrophilic ions in comparison with hydrophobic ions. Point of zero charge pH (pH_pzc) of zein membrane was 4.8. The results of cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) as well as pH_pzc study indicated that zein permselective membrane acts as ion exchanger film for selected cationic compounds with fast electrochemical kinetics responses in aqueous solution (pH=7). This behavior was confirmed by circulating solutions containing model compounds from homemade continuous cell equipped with polyamide membranes modified with zein film.

A facile procedure for the one-pot synthesis of unsymmetrical 2,5-disubstituted 1,3,4-oxadiazoles

Unsymmetrically 2,5-disubstituted 1,3,4-oxadiazoles were efficiently synthesized from the cyclization-oxidation reaction of acyl hydrazones. Also, the synthesis of the title compounds was achieved by the condensation of acyl hydrazides and aromatic aldehydes in the presence of ceric ammonium nitrate in dichloromethane.
