Analysis of plane and axisymmetric flows of incompressible fluids with the stream tube method: Numerical simulation by trust-region optimization algorithm

New concepts for the study of incompressible plane or axisymmetric flows are analysed by the stream tube method. Flows without eddies and pure vortex flows are considered in a transformed domain where the mapped streamlines are rectilinear or circular. The transformation between the physical domain and the computational domain is an unknown of the problem. In order to solve the non-linear set of relevant equations, we present a new algorithm based on a trust region technique which is effective for non-convex optimization problems. Experimental results show that the new algorithm is more robust compared to the Newton-Raphson method.     

Selective organic functionalization of polycrystalline silicon-germanium for bioMEMS applications

We selectively immobilized organofunctional silanes on top of polycrystalline silicon-germanium (poly-SiGe) layers, as a first step towards the fabrication of poly-SiGe-based bioMEMS (biomedical MicroElectroMechanicalSystems) by means of standard UV photolithography. 3-aminopropyl-dimethyl-ethoxysilane (APDMES) and 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane (APTES) molecules were immobilized onto resist-patterned poly-SiGe surfaces. The protocols for surface hydroxylation and silane immobilization were designed to be CMOS-compatible and to avoid damage to photoresist. Silanized surfaces were investigated both by means of fluorescence microscopy, and by FEG-SEM observation after labeling with 30 nm-diameter gold nanoparticles (NPs). We report the silanization protocols, together with the results indicating successful organic functionalization of the samples.     

A Recyclable and Highly Effective ZnO-beta Zeolite as a Catalyst for One-pot Three-Component Synthesis of Tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrans

4H‐Benzo[b]pyrans was synthesized under reflux condition in ethanol via condensation of benzaldehyde, malononitrile and dimedone with ZnO‐beta zeolite as an inexpensive and effective catalyst. The key features of the reported protocols are good to excellent yields, short reaction time and recovery and reusability of catalytic material.     

Pion exchange currents in elastic electron deuteron scattering

The effects of pion-exchange pari and recoil currents on the electromagnetic form factors of the deuteron are calculated. Both exchange currents give significant contributions to the charge form factor and, despite some cancellation, their net effect is appreciable for q² ? 10 fm^?2.
