We report experimental studies on the phase transitions and physical properties of colloidal suspensions of BaTiO3 nanoparticles and two cyanobiphenyl liquid crystals (4-pentyl-4?-cyanobiphenyl and 4-octyl-4?-cyanobiphenyl). From the differential scanning calorimetric measurements, we show that the nanoparticles have antagonistic effect on the isotropic to nematic and nematic to smectic-A phase transitions. The birefringence, dielectric anisotropy and splay elastic constant remain almost unchanged, whereas the bend elastic constant and rotational viscosity decrease considerably. The experimental results are discussed based on the possible contribution of BaTiO3 nanoparticles and free surfactant molecules in the suspensions.  相似文献

In this article we compare the classical monopole mass filter of von Zahn and the monopole mass filter with a hyperbolic V-shaped electrode. The experimental results and those of computer simulation for both mass spectrometers are presented. We show that the replacement of a conventional 90 degrees V-shaped electrode by an electrode with a hyperbolic profile substantially improves the peak shape of any given mass, and increases the mass resolution by a factor of 3-4 and the abundance sensitivity by a factor of 100. The potential of high analytical performance combined with electroforming techniques for electrode manufacture indicate future practical uses of such instruments. The thermodynamic properties of alkaline earth ruthenate ARuO3 (A?=?Ca, Sr, and Ba) perovskites have been investigated for the first time by means of a modified rigid ion model at temperature 1 K?≤?T?≤?300 K. As strong electron–phonon interactions are present in these compounds, the lattice contribution to the specific heat deserves proper attention. The values of specific heat calculated by us have shown remarkably good agreement with corresponding experimental data. We have found that in ARuO3 (A?=?Ca, Sr, and Ba) ruthenate family, Debye temperature increases inversely with the ionic radius of the alkaline earth A cations. In addition, the results on the temperature dependence of thermal expansion coefficient (α), cohesive energy (?), molecular force constant (f), Reststrahlen frequency (υ), Debye temperature (θ D), and Grüneisen parameter (γ) are also reported.  相似文献

DC magnetization, neutron depolarization and neutron diffraction (with both polarized and unpolarized neutrons) measurements have been reported for the Co1.1−x Zn x Ge0.1Fe1.2O1 spinels with x=0.5, 0.6 and 0.7. Neutron depolarization and neutron diffraction measurements confirm the presence of a long range ferrimagnetic ordering of the local canted spins in these ferrite samples. The observed features of low field magnetization have been explained under the framework of thermally activated domain wall movement of ferrimagnetic arrangement of local canted spins. An important role of magnetic anisotropy (due to the presence of Co2+ ions) in establishing the magnetic ordering and domain kinetics in these ferrites has been observed.  相似文献

Appearance energies of [M-H](-) ions from carbonyl compounds R-CO-R' (R,R' = H, CH(3), NH(2), OH) have been measured by means of negative ion mass spectrometry in resonant electron capture mode. The elastic and thermal properties of Sr1?xYxCoO3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5) have been investigated, probably for the first time, by using modified rigid ion model. We present the elastic constants (C11, C12, C44) and other elastic properties like bulk modulus (B), Young's modulus (Y), shear modulus (G), Poisson's ratio (σ), Lame's parameter (μ, λ), transverse, longitudinal and average wave velocity (υt, υl and υm) and anisotropy parameter (A). Besides, we have reported the thermodynamic properties molecular force constant (f), Reststrahlen frequency (υ), cohesive energy (φ), Debye temperature (θD) and Gruneisen parameter (γ). We have also computed the variation of specific heat (C) and volume thermal expansion coefficient (α). The computed results on the elastic and thermodynamic properties are the first report on them. This model is capable of explaining the Cauchy's discrepancy, elastic and thermal properties successfully.  相似文献
