Possibilities of Production and Use of Rubber-Bitumen Compounds

Procedures are discussed for production of rubber-bitumen compounds based on spent rubber items. A possibility of using these binders for paving is studied experimentally.     

Effect of Decationation Procedure on the Textural Properties of High-Silica ZSM-5 Zeolite

The texture of the starting high-silica zeolite ZSM-5 and its decationated samples is studied by the low-temperature adsorption method. Mesopores with a diameter of 42 Å are found. Decationation of the zeolite is accompanied by an increase in the specific surface area and pore volume. It is suggested that the textural changes found are due to the removal of admixtures from some pores. A model for the formation of the secondary pore system is proposed. The secondary porosity is suggested to be due to the coordination of the zeolite crystals through the primary particles of aluminum hydroxide located on the surface of the zeolite crystals. The influence of the decationation conditions on the textural characteristics of ZSM-5 is shown.     

Styrylation of phenol in the presence of cation-exchange resins. Influence of the product composition on its stabilizing performance in rubber

Methylbenzylated phenols were prepared by catalytic reaction of phenol with styrenes. The effect of a series of cation-exchange resins on the product composition was examined, and the stabilizing performance of the products in rubber was evaluated.

     

Variation of Functional Composition of SKEPT Rubber in the Course of Ozonolysis

Ozonolysis in hexane of ternary ethylene-propylene rubber (SKEPT), accompanied by formation of oxygen-containing groups and intermolecular cross-linking, was studied. These processes become more pronounced when ozonolysis is performed in hexane containing pyridine.     

Modification of polypropylene with long-chain elastomers

Physicomechanical and rheological properties of isotactic polypropylene modified with a high-molecular-weight amorphous polymer, polyoctene, were studied. Modification of polypropylene with polyoctene allows the impact resilience and relative elongation to be increased relative to the initial polypropylene and the processing temperature to be decreased.     

Viscosity of Polymer–Bitumen Binders

Polymer–bitumen binders for the highway engineering were obtained by the addition of a ternary ethylene–propylene rubber to a bitumen. The addition of a vulcanizing agent to a polymer–bitumen composition caused the structuring of the system through cross-linking of rubber molecules in the bitumen matrix that was confirmed by the study of structural viscosity of the polymer–bitumen compositions, as well as molecular mobility by the methods of NMR-relaxation and pulsed field gradient NMR-relaxation (self-diffusion).     

Synthesis of isoprene from 1,3-dioxolane and isobutylene

Possibility of synthesizing isoprene from 1,3-dioxolane and isobutylene in a single stage under conditions of a homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysis was examined.     

Sealants Based on Oligodiene Urethane Epoxides

Sealants in which oligodiene urethane epoxide is used as polymeric base were studied. Sulfurcontaining oligomers were used for additional cross-linking via double bonds. The reaction with a polysulfide oligomer at the terminal functional groups was studied taking into account the region of thermodynamic compatibility of the reactive oligomers. Application fields were suggested for the sealants developed.     

Effect of Higher Fatty Acids and Their Mixtures on Interfacial and Physicomechanical Properties of Vulcanized Rubbers

The interfacial characteristics of stearic and oleic acids and their mixtures were studied. The surface free energies of isoprene and butadiene-styrene rubbers and vulcanizates thereof, obtained using fatty acids and their synergistic mixture as vulcanization activators, were evaluated from the contact angles.     

Production of High-Purity Dicyclopentadiene from the C5 Fraction of Hydrocarbon Pyrolysis

A process was developed for production of dicyclopentadiene from the C₅ fraction of hydrocarbon pyrolysis. Conditions were found ensuring production of high-purity dicyclopentadiene.
