DICSI station at KCSR and NT: Determination of optimal requirements to the formation of an SR beam using cylindrical x-ray optical zoom lenses

To modernize the DICSI station, new hardware and software have been created according to the conditions of the operating storage ring “Sibir’-2” beam channel. The recording system has been successfully tested on the operating channel of the storage ring VEPP-3 (Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk) using the time-resolved “diffraction cinema” technique in studying real biological objects in the static and dynamic modes of data accumulation. At the DICSI station, structural changes in medical and biological objects are permanently investigated. The specific structure dimensions of these objects are in the nanometric range.     

Quantitative determination of the main component of the pheromone of the beet army worm moth as a function of the time of day influence of a brain extract on the induction of the pheromone

Capillary electrophoretic approach to screen for enzyme inhibitors in natural extracts

This paper demonstrates development of electrophoretically mediated micro analysis (EMMA), for screening protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) inhibitors in natural extracts. It is demonstrated that capillary electrophoresis (CE) separation of the substrate and the product allows for using the assay in an on-column format to monitor the reaction without typically used fluorogenic substrates. Michaelis-Menten kinetics parameters calculated based on the EMMA results (Km = 1.2-1.5 microM) were in a good agreement (Km = 1.0-1.5 microM) obtained using an off-line CE functional assay (CE FA). EMMA of PTP titrated with different concentrations of ligand demonstrated the peak-shift phenomenon normally seen in affinity capillary electrophoresis. This feature of EMMA gives an indication of the binding affinity of the ligand in addition to its functional activity, providing another dimension in characterization of the protein-inhibitor interaction. It was demonstrated that simultaneous screening of the primary PTP target and a secondary, counter target (PTP-C) using the EMMA format can be used to prioritize hits based on their specificity.     

Probabilities of delayed processes for nuclei involved in the r-process

Delayed fission, along with induced and spontaneous fission, is responsible for the suppression of the production of superheavy elements both during the r-process and after its completion. Beta-decay strength functions are required for calculating delayed fission. In the present study, respective strength functions are calculated by relying on the theory of finite Fermi systems and by predominantly employing nuclear masses and fission barriers predicted by a generalized Thomas-Fermi model. The probabilities for delayed fission and for the emission of delayed neutrons are calculated for a number of isotopes. On the basis of calculations performed in order to determine the probabilities for delayed processes, it is shown that some of the delayed-fission probabilities calculated thus far were substantially overestimated. The application of these new results to calculating the r-process may change substantially both the r-process path and the yields of superheavy nuclei.

On the theory of hall conductivity in disordered systems

A general formula for the Hall conductivity, which is exact in the one-particle approximation, has been obtained. Making use of this formula, the Hall coefficient for small polarons has been calculated.

Novel Ionophores for Barium‐Selective Electrodes: Synthesis and Analytical Characterization

A novel way of synthesis is developed for the Ba²⁺ selective neutral Ionophore 2a : 2,2′‐[1,2‐phenylenebis(oxyethane‐2,1‐diyloxy)]bis(N‐benzyl‐N‐phenylacetamide) and its methyl ( 2b ), buthyl ( 2c ), and hexyl ( 2d ) derivatives. Ba²⁺ selective electrodes based on Ionophores 2a – d are compared with those with commonly used Ionophore 1 : N,N,N′,N′‐tetracyclohexyl‐oxybis(o‐phenyleneoxy) diacetamide. It is shown that Ionophores 2a – d , particularly 2b , are superior for measurements of Ba²⁺ in the presence of Ca²⁺, and in acidic solutions. Segmented sandwich membrane studies suggest formation of complexes IL₂²⁺ for Ba²⁺, Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ ions with Ionophore 2b , while H⁺ ions apparently form complexes H₂L²⁺. The values of the complex formation constants are consistent with the selectivity coefficients.
