This paper presents results of studies on dc electrical conductivity and transference number measurements on potassium bromate (KBrO3) complexed polyvinyl chloride (PVC) films prepared by solution cast technique. Temperature dependence of dc electrical conductivity and transference number data indicated the dominance of ion type charge transport in these specimens. The magnitude of conductivity increased with increase in concentration of the salt and temperature. Using this (PVC + KBrO3) electrolyte, solid-state electrochemical cells were fabricated, and their discharge profiles were studied under a constant load of 100 kΩ. Several cell profiles such as open circuit voltage, short circuit current, power density, and energy density associated with these cells were evaluated and were reported. The features of complexation of the electrolytes were studied by X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. For an innovative product characterized by short product lifecycle and high demand uncertainty, investment in capacity buildup has to be done cautiously. Otherwise either the product’s market diffusion is impeded or the manufacturer is left with unutilized capacity. Using the right information for making capacity augmentation decisions is critical in facing this challenge. In this paper, we propose a method for identifying critical information flows using the system dynamics model of a two-echelon supply chain. The fundamental premise of system dynamics methodology is that (system) structure determines (its) behavior. Using loop dominance analysis method we study the feedback loop structure of the supply chain system. The outcome is a set of dominant loops that determine the dynamics of capacity growth. It is revealed that the delivery delay information has little effect while the loop that connects retail sales with production order affects the dynamics significantly. Modifying this loop yields appropriate capacity augmentation decisions resulting in higher performance. What-if analyses bring out effects of modifying other structural elements. In conclusion, we claim that the information feedback based methodology is general enough to be useful in designing decision support systems for capacity augmentation. The limitations of the model are also discussed and possible extensions identified.  相似文献

Highly avid interaction between carbohydrate ligands and lectin receptors nominally requires the ligand presentation in a clustered form. We present herein an approach involving Langmuir monolayer formation of the sugar ligands and the assessment of their lectin binding at the air-water interface. Bivalent alpha-D-mannopyranoside containing the glycolipid ligand was used to study its binding profiles with lectin Con A, in comparison to the corresponding monovalent glycolipid. In addition to the bivalent and monovalent nature of the glycolipid ligands at the molecular level, the ligand densities at the monolayer level were varied with the aid of a nonsugar lipid molecule so as to obtain mixed monolayers with various sugar-nonsugar ratios. Lectin binding of bivalent and monovalent ligands at different ratios was monitored by differential changes in the surface area per molecule of the mixed monolayer, with and without the lectin. The present study shows that maximal binding of the lectin to the bivalent ligand occurs at lower sugar densities at the interface ( approximately 10% sugar in the mixed monolayer) than for that of the monovalent ligand ( approximately 20% sugar in the mixed monolayer). It is observed that complete coverage of the monolayer with only the sugar ligands does not allow all of the sugars to be functionally active.  相似文献

[reaction: see text] A systematic investigation on a broad set of aldehydes reveals that the lifetimes of (Z)-photoenols can be modulated by variation of the substituents. We have found that the lifetimes of (Z)-enols (in benzene) can be varied by more than 1 order of magnitude with a judicious choice of the substituents that exert mesomeric and inductive effects as, for example, in the case of pentamethylbenzaldehyde (tau = 35 ns) and dicyanomesitaldehyde (tau = 760 ns). This study thus points to the fact that the electronic factors in conjunction with hydrogen bonding stabilization can considerably broaden the uni- as well as bimolecular chemistry based on photoenolization. Further, we have shown that the photoenols exhibit dramatic shifts in their absorption properties with variation of the substituents; although the photoenols have long been considered to be colored, their absorption properties have not been heretofore comprehensively examined.  相似文献

The photocyclization to benzocyclobutenols of o-alkyl aromatic aldehydes that are predestined for gamma-hydrogen abstraction is found to occur efficiently in the solid state; in contrast, solution-phase photolysis is known to afford a mixture of several products. It is shown that mesitaldehyde, which is a liquid, also undergoes efficient cyclization when subjected to photolysis as a solid inclusion complex. The marginal energy differences in the relative energies of the E-enols and the corresponding cyclobutenols in the case of cyano-substituted mesitaldehydes has permitted direct observation, for the first time, of the E-enols en route to benzocyclobutenols. The AM1 calculations suggest that the cyano-substitution causes intrinsic stabilization of the E-enols relative to the corresponding cyclobutenols, while the bromo groups do the opposite. The lack of observation of the red color in bromo- and formyl-substituted aldehydes is attributed to rapid cyclization of the E-enols to the their respective cyclobutenols even at low temperatures.  相似文献

A variety of benzyl halides were converted to the corresponding aldehydes/ketones in respectable yields by IBX in DMSO at 65 °C. The bromohydrin reaction of olefins using NBS-H2O in DMSO can be nicely adapted to IBX-mediated oxidation of benzyl halides in such a way that olefins are converted to the corresponding 1,2-diketones in good isolated yields in one-pot.  相似文献

Optical absorption spectra were studied in wavelength region 400-900 nm for the Nd(3+)-doped alkali (R = Li, Na and K) chloroborophosphate glasses at room temperature. The energy level scheme of the 4f(3) electron configuration was deduced from the observed energy level data using a parametrized Hamiltonian (H(F1)) model which includes 20 free-ion interaction parameters. Reasonable correlation was obtained between the experimental and calculated energy levels. The Judd-Ofelt model for the intensity analysis of induced electric dipole transitions has been applied to the measured oscillator strengths of the absorption bands to determine the three phenomenological intensity parameters Omega(2), Omega(4) and Omega(6) for each glass. Using these parameters, the total radiative transition rates (A(T)), non-radiative relaxation rates (W(NR)), branching ratios (beta(R)), integrated cross-sections for the stimulated emission (Sigma), excited state emission intensities (f(ESE)) and excited state absorption intensities (f(ESA)) have been theoretically calculated for certain excited Nd(3+) fluorescent levels. From the results obtained, the conclusion is made about the possibility of using these glasses as laser media.  相似文献
