Hydroselenation of alkynes using NaBH4/BMIMBF4: easy access to vinyl selenides

A general and easy method for the synthesis of several vinyl selenides using NaBH₄ and BMIMBF₄ as a recyclable solvent is described. This efficient and improved method furnishes the corresponding vinyl chalcogenides preferentially with Z configuration. We also observed that when the same protocol was applied to phenyl acetylene, (E)-bis-phenylseleno styrene was obtained in good yield and with high selectivity.     

Complex Tellurium Salts with Supramolecular Bidimensional Lattices: Synthesis and X‐ray Characterization of (2‐Br‐C5NH5)2[TeX6] (X = Cl,Br)

The reaction of tellurium(IV) tetrahalides with hydrochloric and hydrobromic acid leads to the formation of (H₃O)₂[TeX₆], which reacts subsequently with (2‐Br‐C₅NH₅)⁺X^‐ to afford (2‐Br‐C₅NH₅)₂[TeCl₆] ( 1 ) and (2‐Br‐C₅NH₅)₂[TeBr₆] ( 2 ). The structure of the complex salts were analysed by X‐ray diffractometry affording the centrosymmetric space groups P2₁/n (monoclinic, 1 ) and P1¯ (triclinic, 2 ). Interionic hydrogen bondings hold their lattices in bidimensional supramolecular arrays not yet described in the literature. The lone electron pair of the AX₆E‐system of the hexahalotellurates [TeX₆]^2‐ (X = Cl, Br) seems to be fully delocalized since only small octahedral deviations were observed for the anionic species. The structures of the title compounds were refined with the Te atoms occupying sites with full point symmetry, approximately m3¯m. In both cases the Te atoms enclose centers of inversion and the octahedrally dynamic structures are enforced and stabilized along the supramolecular lattices by the crystal field of the 2‐Br‐pyridinium cations.     

CuI/glycerol mediated stereoselective synthesis of 1,2-bis-chalcogen alkenes from terminal alkynes: synthesis of new antioxidants

(E)-1,2-Bis-chalcogen alkenes were stereoselectively prepared in good yields by the addition of diorganyl dichalcogenides to terminal alkynes using CuI/Zn/glycerol as a recyclable catalytic system. The antioxidant activity in vitro of four (E)-1,2-bis-chalcogen alkenes synthesized was evaluated and (E)-1,2-bis-(4-methoxyphenylselanyl)styrene 3b presented excellent activity. The catalytic system used in the synthesis was recovered and used directly up to 5 cycles without loss of activity.     

Synthesis of (Z)-N-alkenyl-β-arylselanyl imidazoles via additive-free nucleophilic addition of imidazole to arylselanylalkynes

We present herein our results on the nucleophilic addition of imidazole to a range of arylselanylalkynes by simple heating in DMF without any additives to give (Z)-1-(1-organyl-(2-arylselanyl)vinyl)-1H-imidazoles. The reactions were performed under mild conditions with a range of arylselanylalkynes in good yields and with high regio- and stereoselectivity to give the respective (Z)-arylselanyl alkene as the only isomer.     

Experimental Evidence of CO2 Photoreduction Activity of SnO2 Nanoparticles

Tin dioxide (SnO₂) has intrinsic characteristics that do not favor its photocatalytic activity. However, we evidenced that surface modification can positively influence its performance for CO₂ photoreduction in the gas phase. The hydroxylation of the SnO₂ surface played a role in the CO₂ affinity decreasing its reduction potential. The results showed that a certain selectivity for methane (CH₄), carbon monoxide (CO), and ethylene (C₂H₄) is related to different SnO₂ hydrothermal annealing. The best performance was seen for SnO₂ annealed at 150 °C, with a production of 20.4 μmol g⁻¹ for CH₄ and 16.45 μmol g⁻¹ for CO, while for SnO₂ at 200 °C the system produced more C₂H₄, probably due to a decrease of surface −OH groups.

Catalyst-free synthesis of benzodiazepines and benzimidazoles using glycerol as recyclable solvent

We described herein the use of glycerol as solvent in the catalyst-free synthesis of benzodiazepines and benzimidazoles. This simple and efficient method furnishes the corresponding 1-H-1,5-benzodiazepines and 1,2-disubstituted benzimidazoles in good yields by the condensation of o-phenylenediamine with several ketones and aldehydes, respectively. In addition, glycerol can be easily re-utilized for further condensation reactions up to four times without lost of activity.     

Synthesis,structural characterization and growth features of some (Ph)Se–Cd cluster compounds (Ph = phenyl)

Cd(SePh)₂, CdBr₂·4H₂O/CdI₂ and PCh₃ (Ph = phenyl; PCh₃ = tricyclohexylphosphine) react to give [(SePh)₂Cd₂Br₂(PCh₃)₂] (1), [(SePh)₂Cd₂I₂(PCh₃)₂] (2) and [(SePh)₇Cd₄Br(PCh₃)]_n (3).     

Nonhomogeneous multiparameter problems in Orlicz–Sobolev spaces

This paper is concerned with the existence and multiplicity of solutions for a class of problems involving the Φ-Laplacian operator with general assumptions on the nonlinearities, which include both semipositone cases and critical concave convex problems. The research is based on the subsupersolution technique combined with a truncation argument and an application of the Mountain Pass Theorem. The results in this paper improve and complement some recent contributions to this field.
