Mechanism of the Reaction of Xenon Tetraoxide with Hydrogen: A Photochemical Reaction

The dependence of the rate of a photochemical reaction of XeO₄with H₂on the concentrations of H₂and the diluent gases He and CO₂is studied at room temperature. The results are compared with the data for the dark reaction. A mechanism with the elementary energetic branched-chain reaction OH (v) + XeO₄OH + O + XeO₃is proposed to explain the results of the study.     

Preparation of isomeric 1,3- and 1,5- (o-phenylene)-hexamethylcyclotetrasiloxanes and investigation of their spectral characteristics

Workup of the mixture of products of pyrolysis of cyclotetrasiloxane (Me₂SiO)₂(MePhSiO)₂ yielded 1,3- (I) and 1,5-(o-phenylene)cyclosiloxane (II), the structures of which were established on the basis of data from their IR, PMR, and mass spectra.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 1, pp. 24–25, January, 1978.     

Spectroscopic characterization of mineral crystals produced by the bacterium Azospirillum brasilense

The results of spectroscopic structural and trace elemental analyses of mineral crystals produced by the soil nitrogen-fixing bacterium Azospirillum brasilense cultivated in a synthetic medium are presented and discussed. The mineral formed is shown to have a structure close to struvite (MgNH(4)PO(4) x 6H(2)O; ASTM file No. 15-762) with some differences which may be attributed to the presence of isomorphic admixtures of other cations (struvite is known to have a variety of forms). AAS/AES and ion chromatography analyses for a number of biologically important microelements and their role in the formation of the crystal structure, as well as some questions related to biomineralization are also discussed.     

The reaction of chloromethylsilanes with amines,hexamethyldisilazanes, and silylcarhamates

The reactions of chloromethylsilanes with amines, hexamethyldisilazane, and silylcarbamates were studied. The dependence of the composition and structure of the resulting products on the nature of the reagents used and reaction conditions was determined. A scheme for the synthesis of 4,9-diaza-2,7-dioxa-1,6-disilacyclodecane-3,8-dione derivatives was suggested.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk.
