We provide a novel development in jet physics by predicting the energy profiles of light-quark and gluon jets in the framework of perturbative QCD. Resumming large logarithmic contributions to all orders in the coupling constant, our predictions are shown to agree well with Tevatron CDF and Large Hadron Collider CMS data. We also extend our resummation formalism to the invariant mass distributions of light-quark and gluon jets produced in hadron collisions. The predicted peak positions and heights in jet mass distributions are consistent with CDF data within uncertainties induced by parton distribution functions.  相似文献

When a stress is applied on a metallic glass it deforms following Hook's law. Therefore it may appear obvious that a metallic glass deforms elastically. Using x-ray diffraction and anisotropic pair-density function analysis we show that only about 3/4 in volume fraction of metallic glasses deforms elastically, whereas the rest of the volume is anelastic and in the experimental time scale deform without resistance. We suggest that this anelastic portion represents residual liquidity in the glassy state. Many theories, such as the free-volume theory, assume the density of defects in the glassy state to be of the order of 1%, but this result shows that it is as much as a quarter.  相似文献

This study evaluated the performance of in-vitro freehand aspiration of a simulated cyst with ultrasound aspiration guided by a newly designed laser assisted (LA) device. The LA device was equipped with an adjustable light source generating a sector light plane. This laser light plane was parallel to and overlapped the ultrasound acoustical plane, to help with needle positioning. Five operators randomly performed 30 freehand or LA ultrasound guided aspirations of a simulated cyst. The frequency was set at 8 MHz and depth at 4 cm. Procedure time and number of syringe withdrawals were statistically compared before and after using the LA device. Both experienced and inexperienced operators required significantly less time to perform the aspiration and had fewer syringe withdrawals when using the LA device. The LA device provides a reference plane in space, allowing the operator to more accurately position and adjust needle direction. Additional in-vivo testing is required to test the clinical practicability.  相似文献

The tour construction heuristic that generates initial tours for the tour improvement heuristics plays an important role in solving the travelling salesman problem (TSP). With the help of an effective tour construction heuristic, the performance of a heuristic can be improved. In this study we present a new tour construction algorithm, the construction priority (CP). We incorporate the performance of the CP into metaheuristics such as tabu search, genetic algorithm, space smoothing, and noising methods. The performance of the CP is empirically compared with the nearest neighbour (NN) approach. Extensive computational comparison shows that the CP is considerably more effective compared to NN.  相似文献

Production planning problems with setup decisions, which were formulated as mixed integer programmes (MIP), are solved in this study. The integer component of the MIP solution is determined by three evolution algorithms used in this study. Firstly, a traditional genetic algorithm (GA) uses conventional crossover and mutation operators for generating new chromosomes (solutions). Secondly, a modified GA uses not only the conventional operators but also a sibling operator, which stochastically produces new chromosomes from old ones using the sensitivity information of an associated linear programme. Thirdly, a sibling evolution algorithm uses only the sibling operator to reproduce. Based on the experiments done in this study, the sibling evolution algorithm performs the best among all the algorithms used in this study.  相似文献

We show that, in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, the possibility for the lightest CP-even Higgs boson to be lighter than Z boson (as low as about 60 GeV) is, contrary to the usual belief, not yet excluded by the CERN LEP2 Higgs search nor any direct searches for supersymmetric particles at high energy colliders. The characteristic of the light Higgs boson scenario (LHS) is that the ZZh coupling and the decay branching ratio Br(h/A-->bb) are simultaneously suppressed as a result of generic supersymmetric loop corrections. Consequently, the W(+/-)H(-/+)h coupling has to be large due to the sum rule of Higgs couplings to weak gauge bosons. We discuss the potential of the Fermilab Tevatron and B factories to test the LHS, and show that the associated neutral and charged Higgs boson production process, pp-->H(+/-)h(A), can completely probe the LHS at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.  相似文献

The cross-efficiency method is generally utilized to rank decision-making units (DMUs) in data envelopment analysis (DEA) based on peer-evaluation logic. This brief note provides a method of using the available information from the linear program outputs to calculate the ranking of all DMUs with fewer computations and offers an alternative interpretation to the cross-efficiency method based on slack analysis in DEA.  相似文献

We investigated vortex-lattice dynamics in superconducting Nb thin films with different quasiperiodic arrays of magnetic pinning centers. The mixed-state magnetoresistance exhibits minima for well-defined applied fields, related to matching effects between the vortex lattice and those arrays. The results show that critical matching can originate at a local scale. For fractal arrays, the vortex-lattice correlation length is longer and the minima are deeper, close to those of periodic arrays.  相似文献

We present the exact next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to the dijet production induced by the quark contact interactions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. We show that, as compared to the exact calculation, the scaled NLO QCD prediction adopted by the ATLAS Collaboration has overestimated the new physics effect on some direct observables by more than 30% and renders a higher limit on the quark compositeness scale. The destructive contribution from the exact NLO correction will also lower the compositeness scale limit set by the CMS Collaboration.  相似文献

When the charged Higgs boson is too heavy to be produced in pairs, the predominant production mechanism at linear colliders is via the single charged Higgs boson production processes, such as e(-)e(+)-->bcH+,taunuH+ and gammagamma-->bcH+,taunuH+. We show that the yield of a heavy charged Higgs boson at a gammagamma collider is typically 1 or 2 orders of magnitude larger than that at an e(-)e(+) collider. Furthermore, a polarized gammagamma collider can determine the chirality of the Yukawa couplings of fermions with charged Higgs boson via single charged Higgs boson production and, thus, discriminate models of new physics.  相似文献
